I hope not. I wish people would give up the branching job theories and just be satisfied by an entire new class and job. 1:1 for now. It might be more viable after a massive raise in the level cap though.
But it isn't is it? According to the site you need one class at 30, and another at 15 before unlocking jobs... so 2:1 ?
Seems like it would be easier with 2:1 or 3:1 because the devs could add more jobs without having to add base classes. Also, one could simply jump right into the new job (assuming prerequisites already met) without needing to level a class one doesn't necessarily want to play.

It's why people keep saying strange things on the main forums. Musketeer>SCH, and even worse, MRD > SAM. It's like they're not even trying. Just sounds provincial to me. Ronin > SAM. Hell, Calculator > SCH (Doubtful, just an example, relax.) would be accepted by many. Since they've already chosen this path, they shouldn't take any developmental shortcuts, just because you don't want to level a new class and wish to jump into the job.

I'm sorry if my POV was vague. Fulfilling other class requirements aren't factored into the ratio. BLM requires monk, yet you'd be hard pressed to make any rational connection between the two. Meaning, if the system were different, you'd never even consider PUG and BLM to be related.
1:1 more specifically means that the lvl 50 class which has the most direct influence over the job, and the fact that they both share the same
Main Weapon.
I enjoy many people's ideas that stem from their excitement. They're fun to read. It's the job stemming that I take issue with, because they don't consider the limitations of tying a weapon to ONE class. Or how complicated it would get. They're never thought out, so they say silly things like MRD > SAM. Take my Ronin > SAM example. Samurai's are also known for their pole arm use and archery. Having either ARC or LNC as the 15 requirement wouldn't make that 2:1. Samurai and Ronin still use Katana, ergo 1:1. Creating a new class as the foundation of the new job. That GLA > DRK/PLD idea makes me disappointed and nervous, since I'd want a great weapon for DRK, yet GLA is limited to swords (and daggers as of 1.0 lol). So they'd have to find some work around to make it happen.
I have no idea what they're planning on putting as the base for SCH. I don't particularly care as long as they give us a new class. I'm in the waiting for NIN/Assassin/THF/Rogue/SAM boat. For the SMN and SCH lovers, I'm happy for them. I'm playing either way.
