Nope! No one on the FF XIV forum is waiting for FF XIV.

Obviously we are waiting, but good point: IGN and other game sites really aren't giving this thing any coverage whatsoever. Maybe 1.0 left a bad taste in their mouths?

Hell, I don't even really remember FFXIV 1.0 getting all that much attention. I think if they have a really good showing at E3, it will help. I also think that once the NDA lifts and they can actually start posting reviews about the entire game, that will help too. It will never be a crazy mainstream media monster like WoW, but I don't think it needs to be. It has a big draw from the Final Fantasy crowd, and hopefully will get a big draw from the PS3 crowd. If the game is as good as it looks, it should do fine and get all the attention it needs.

I was waiting for a new FF MMO for years and years, but by the time it finally comes I find myself looking for a gameplay experience which is expressly not based around menial tasks that involve no real thought (ie. the vast majority of quests, monster grinding) and more something that has the depth to be stimulating.

I loved FFXI, but looking back, the things I liked about it were the lore/characters, the storyline, the immersive world to explore. Unfortunately, though I did it anyway, the vast majority of my time spent in the game (ie. the XP/LP/gear grind) was just not fun for me, simply because there was no mental challenge. Okay, maybe it was a little fun, but there's surely a limit to how many times one can level up or get a new piece of gear and still be thrilled. At the current point of my life I feel I'm too busy to spend time on a game where most of it is this kind of zero challenge filler, so I'm not sure what to think anymore... I can't be the only person to feel like this.

tl;dr give me a big budget sandbox MMO where I can make a kind of cute character (EVE gets an F here)

Eve online, no better MMO than that for what you described me.

You already edit your post.

Yeah... I don't know why more developers notice the niche in the market. Is there really demand for more theme park games? I wonder when EVE will just be one of many high budget MMOs based on complex player interaction instead of being thought of as "that confusing niche game".

I feel exactly the same, myself. I want to like XIV, but I think best case scenario will be that the leveling is quick and I can experience most of the game in a month and then leave it like I did with GW2. I just don't even have the time to throw into an MMO in the midst of my own projects, at least not one that doesn't inspire me or challenge any of my views about game design.

There's always that MMO with the FFT gameplay to look forward to, at least.

That is true yea. Over the years Eve has done some moves to make the game easier for the people. Especially the new expansion will bring improved UI features that would make it easier to play with.

The fact remains though that the game to its core is a HARD game to play. For people like me that played it for years it seems rather simple but in truth it isnt. The new player needs to put a lot of effort to learn the game and there will always more things to learn. Truth be told Eve online is not a casual game and players that came from games like WoW do not like the slow pace eve has. BEcause lets face it the usual way in mmos to advance is to play for hours and hours to reach top level while something like that can not happen in Eve.

But eve n though I love it and at some point I will go back, eve is a game that consumes too much of your time and at some point it can feel like a job. So that is why I am lookig for a more casual game and why I am into ARR right now.

Sorry for my eve rant there and also sorry for my many typos I am writing from my phone.

I dunno how time consuming EVE gets (most of my brief time in game was mostly just mission running, not really having found corporation related things to do for some reason - I guess waiting on other people would be time consuming like in FFXI), but there's no reason why a game can't be a mental challenge while not being too time consuming.

It's also an old game, and it's a simple fact that people (including myself) want to join in on something new. Here's to hoping EQ3 will turn out to be how they described.
