So,

Now that mid February has come and gone with no news as yet as to the actual start date of Phase 1 of Beta, what are people's expectations as to when the beta process might actually get started, and what impact (if any) delays to date might have on final release.

I for one am comfortable with delays if it helps make the game all that it should be but I am surprised at the lack of communication of dates for what comes next. THe last we heard, Beta 1 was starting mid Feb, and we have pretty much no other comment from SE as to when it might start despite the fact that we are into mid Feb. After the disastrous betas of version 1.0, I am surprised at the absolute lack of substantive information!

There's going to be a new Letter From The Producer in the morning (according to one of Reinheart's translations). A lot of people seem to think this will include our launch date, of course there's also a good chance it will only be a recap of what happened today at the tour. Cross your fingers!

Well, mid-Feb could mean Feb 12-20~ by some standards. There is a Live Letter from the Producer tomorrow. Let us see what treasures that yields before me make any more assumptions.

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

My comment wasnt really about the technicality of what is considered to be mid Feb - an argument could be advanced that mid feb runs from 2 Feb to 27 Feb.

My comment was more that we are now in what most would consider to be mid Feb, and yet there is not even a date. Even allowing for an announcement of a beta live date in the next few days - it seems unlikely Beta will start immediately suggesting perhaps a late Feb start.

If SE are already a few weeks behind the plan published just 6 weeks ago - what are the flow on implications for the rest of the beta program.

I guess my frustration is not necessarily that the beta is not live. Just that we are not getting any information....I should not be surprised. Beta for version 1.0 was exactly the same.

Did you, the OP'er, post this like 10min before the letter was up? I hope you found your answer.

The 25th is still OK. I really do believe that they are taking their time, in a good way, to make this game fun and good. They want people in the Beta and people to STAY in the Beta, to get as much feedback as possible. Delaying a week to add a few extra contents is fine by me. My main concern is burning out before phase 3 or 4 and then not really wanting to REQUEST all the stuff I had done before. No way all of the quests and stuff will be redone for the release. Adding other methods so its still fresh on release is great.

I still would like to know what will carry over into release from the final phases of the Beta. I don't want to invest full-time play if its only going to carry over a few drops of my blood. I will test and comment but I don't want to waste my time and burn out for the release either. You can see my theme... Someone find out for us in the live letter, please. :)
