Beta Phase 3 Character Levels
With the Beta Test just around the corner, we wanted to give some details about how your 1.0 characters will be imported and how it will be affected by the level cap.

As many of you may have noticed, from Beta Phase 3 you will be able to import your 1.0 character data. To clarify a bit on the level cap for these characters, if your character level is already above level 35, it will remain at that level and you will not be able to level any further. For example if you are 50, you will stay at 50, likewise, if you are 36 you will remain at 36. In the case your level is less than 35, you will be able to level up to a maximum of 35.

The more you know

This is awesome news, assuming they don't have to delete character data (as they have warned may be necessary in the roadmap) Smiley: nod

This is pretty much what I expected, sounds like the most logical way of doing it. I don't think there will be any saves from beta though, but who knows, the situation is rather special.

But, but... my 1.0 character isn't a man-cat or a fem-Roeg... why would I ever ever want to look at it again? :c

I would imagine phase 4 progress will be saved for rollover. Would seem silly for my brand new character to lose it's progress while expecting me to continue playing it at release. The only advantage would be locking my character's name.

Er... that's generally how betas work though. You generally don't keep your beta character through to the live product.

That being said, this isn't your typical beta, so the rules don't necessarily apply.

My only concern really is that since they're billing this as essentially a new game, the truly new players are going to be at a sizable disadvantage in progression and economy. And while this is a perfectly understandable situation since it isn't really a new game; a lot of people aren't going to put two and two together on that one.

Because you're allowed a one time race/feature change?

Also, it's in the road map that the phase 4 beta chars will be carried over to launch. There is a bullet point that says they may need to wipe data, and probably a CYA just in case something tweak they need to make breaks existing data.

Why is that a concern? They're putting the existing players on their own servers, and there will be servers where only new players are allowed. No server transfers for existing players wither.

Ah, that's good.. I wasn't sure if that was a certainty or not.

Is phase 4 open beta? If not I don't think it should carry over. If it is like Wint said I don't really think it matters much since we already have characters with "all" jobs at max level and new servers for those who don't want to play with 1.0 characters.

I hope we would be able to change our char names from a 1.0 name to ARR, they mentioned they would 'try to accommodate everyone' in regards to name change.

Open beta phase 4 is only scheduled for the last two weeks prior to launch, if I remember right. So I don't have a problem with character data being saved.

I must have missed the part about data carrying over to release. I was sort of disappointed to hear it at first, but then I realized that there'll be a ton of people running around at level cap regardless, so I now don't think it's a huge deal.

Only if you pick a server with old players.

I'm happy that data will be saved from phase 4 and we can import characters from phase 3 and up. However, I have decided that I will play sparingly from phase 3 on, unless I'm in the PS3 side of the beta, for fear that I get bunt out over grinding a character only to have it wiped a third and maybe forth time.

It might save but, what if it didn't? I don't want to feel like I'm doing it all over again. In phase 1 and 2 its a new character and a new game, so its ok to wipe the slate and reboot, plus I'm not allowed to take it to end game. In phase 3 and 4 you might spend to much time only to have it all wiped out. Then I can use my character, which I have jobs below 35 still, that I would grind out. Again, i would hate to have them wiped and then feel like I have to do it all over again. I don't think there will be enough NEW content for leveling that will make grinding the same jobs twice. That's just me,

All that makes sense when I read it again. I'm kinda sleepy so I can't tell. Thanks.

"Awesome" certainly is a matter of opinion in this case. I really understand why people would have mixed feelings about this move.

Yeah I realized as I was typing this that not everyone would think it was awesome, but it's my thread, and I think it's awesome Smiley: grin

Wint, every time I go to rate up one of your posts and realize I can't, I automatically wish I could rate it down.
