Question about the game files.Follow

#1 Jan 11 2013 at 10:08 AM Rating: Default
I'm not really a big computer person, so if this has been answered somewhere else, I apologize.

I was wondering what will happen with current subscribers when ARR is released. Will we have to buy a new FFXIV game and install it or will they just perform a really big update to the files we already have on our computers? Will they charge for the new version of the game or will people who already subscribe just get the updated version for free?

Thank you.

People who have already purchased FFXIV get ARR free. I'm 99% sure it will be a new client, so it won't be a patch over the old one.

Side note: I vote we pronounce ARR like we're pirates instead of saying each letter.

I'm almost positive it will be an entirely new install. I've already long since uninstalled 1.0. I expect we would get a link either in email, or possibly through the SE management site, nobody knows for sure yet. I imagine those details will come out after beta has made it through a few phases.

Thank you both for clearing that up. I was only wondering because if I no longer need the game installed, I'll just uninstall it or whatever.

Those who had a PC client get a new PC client for free.

Those who had a PC client but want to switch to PS3 will, however, have to buy the PS3 version separately.

Yes don't forget about the PS3. You will have to buy a PS3 game regardless if you intend on playing it on the PS3. I am one of those that will be swapping between the PS3 and PC. I just hope there will be a way around buying two of each expansion for my PC and PS3. I had to do it with my PlayStation 2 and I always hated it.
