Hey everyone,

While we can't offer too many specifics, these accessories and the markings on their clothing seem to be specific to our Sharlayan friends here. You'll have to wait a bit to find out more!

What do you guys think? The mark could be anything, but I'm really wondering what the little steampunk google/specs/accessory is. They're all carrying them, and they seem to be more than just decoration. Theories?

If I had to take a guess on the specs I would say a magical device that will allow our heroes to 'see' key moments of time they've missed. Most likely in key locations?

I was just having a discussion about the ubiquity of minor steampunk elements in today's swords and sorcery games (e.g., airships).

In general I think all of the magical or steam-era technology in these games tends to get thrown about as it's convenient. Remember the cameras that trap the souls of Pokemon, er, monsters, in FFXI? I don't necessarily mind these technological infusions, but someone was arguing that they didn't like it because it didn't make narrative sense. Personally I think they add some nice character when done thoughtfully.

What I don't like are those Zorro-style masks. Ick.

You might also point out to those people that every Final Fantasy has airships Smiley: wink

Alas, not all fantasy fans are even familiar with Final Fantasy. Though it seems that one is hard-pressed to find an MMO today where there aren't technological devices mixed in with the swords and sorcery, so I was kind of at a loss when the argument came up.

Personally, I'm more interested to the connected story elements rather than the devices themselves.

One person notoriously missing from the new world is Louisouix. I wonder if we'll see him in some "astral plain" or if he truly is gone forever. Something tells me we haven't seen the last of him.

I'm telling you right now that SE didn't animate a beard that fluidly only to ditch the character after the cinematic.
