Force levelling enchanting?Follow

I switched to enchanting late in life. I've spent several days of playing time trying to force up my trade level, but it IS expensive and the AH frequently doesn't have the reagents I need for the current crop of training enchants. I know, or at least suspect, that its easier if you start when your alt is 'young', and can get reagents by breaking loot. At my level, though, all the loot is still way above my enchanting level.

I've started soloing low-mid level instances just to collect low level greens and blues, but it means that any such time spent doesn't contribute to levelling my actual character, and any reagents I can get that way are random at best. Not to mention that two-shotting bosses and one-shotting everybody else can get boring.

Does anybody have any other ideas?

Hmmm... well you pretty much hit on the two more popular ways to level the skill already. The other thing that crosses my mind is to level an alt or two and send over the BoEs you come across.

What's your other profession btw? Sometimes you can buy materials like cloth rather cheaply and make green items to disenchant.

The only other thing I can think of is that, if you like questing, you can go through all the zones and work on Loremaster.

Skinning will help you get money to afford mats for sure, but it's not going to help you get mats when they aren't up on the AH.

Another thing you could do would be to work on power leveling tailoring alongside until you get your enchanting caught up to your level. Cloth is pretty much always up on the AH, and if it isn't one day it will for sure be up the next. Once its caught up, drop tailoring and go back to skinning (or mining or herbalism).

Although really, if you're having an issue I'd just suggest dropping enchanting altogether and wait until you're 85 to power level it.

Whenever I powerlevel enchanting, I almost immediately start using Auctioneer to scan for greens that I can disenchant at a profit. I use some mats for leveling, and sell the rest. Be sure to set your current enchanting level as the maximum, so you don't buy greens you can't disenchant. Plus, it will get you familiar with one way to make money later on as you continue enchanting.

Also, when you are higher, don't waste certain enchants on your own gear. Those that have a chance to be sold can be put on a vellum and put up on the AH.

From one of the tradeskill sticky (adjust profit down for low level mats):

Tip 1 - Disenchanting

This is an old standby. Make your AH toon an enchanter and do an auctioneer Disenchant search. I set a minimum profit of 2g and min discount of 50%. Price valuation method is Enchantrix. You want to allow bids and buyouts. If your enchanting is lower than 500, set custom levels to limit what you buy to your current level.

All buys are done with the Purchase button. Pressing Ctrl-Shift-Alt changes it to Purchase All for one click buying.

You'll want to get a mailbox mod to allow you to get all mail, since you will lose many bids. That's ok.

Set Automation. Do /Enchantrix Config, and select Automation, watch bags. I uncheck auto-disenchant epics.

Thanks for all the advice.

I waited untill my player level was 76 before switching to enchanting (from herbalism, which is profitable if spotty). I run a lot of random dailies and pick up a lot of soulbound gear that I absolutely hated having to fire sale to vendors. Auctioneer kept telling me to disenchant - which made sense.

I started relatively well off - was up on levels and had my cold weather flight license with still 4K+ gold. over the weekend, I managed to push enchanting to 335, which is only 15 short of the stuff I'm getting now, so once the AH gets some more arcane dust I should catch up. On the downside I spent my last two hours of game time hide hunting to get my bank account back up some (my training spending spree cost over 3K gold)

Since you can de for cash, it's an investment. Your target to be able to de all the items in the game right now is 500 enchanting.

Also, get Ackis Recipe List, if you don't already have it. Sometimes a missing recipe can get you over a difficult level with cheaper made items.

arcane dust? the outlands mat that comes from everything? get a tailor, make something with netherweave and rune thread and DE it... the cloth is pretty cheap normally.
I've got one character who gets ALL my cloth until it's needed or the going AH price is too stupid to miss (50g a stack for silk) hello 1000g and an easily replaced mat.

Actually if you don't have or want to make a tailor you could always buy the netherweave or solo instances in outlands for it and find a tailor who will craft the items for you, then you should be able to DE the items they make to get the mats you need.
I'm stuck with 2 enchanters sitting at the starting Cata requirements and the mats are SO rare (I don't instance much with my internet) that I'm seriously thinking of ditching enchanting on one of them in favour of alchemy as I don't have a high character level alchemist. Only miss out on being able to enchant my own rings if I ditch enchanting on the lower skill level character.

Yeah, the only downside to that Gwen is that the Alchemy perk is only good with flasks. Considering you don't do raids or dungeons, flasks would mostly be a waste on you. =/

Good point there 'tails ;)

But alchemy and engineering (375) are the 2 professions I don't have capped to be self sufficient from as yet. It'll come whether it takes leveling a character or ditching enchanting and doing it there. Just need to look at profession bonuses, have 3 herbalists, 3 miners... really only need one able to do the looking after of material needs.

I'd recommend engineering then. It has lots of cool gadgets you can take advantage of without having to raid, including the synapse springs. Plus you can make yourself the goggles, which should be an upgrade over any helm you would acquire from questing.

Now that I've got my enchanting up to where its producing well, something occurs to me to ask of the more experienced in the trade.

I spent a fortune buying reagents on the way up, most of them ingredients for low level enchants that have gone green or gray for training purposes. I really have no idea what I'll need up the line for the "GOOD STUFF". And like everyone else, bag space is at a premium. As hard as some of these older ingredients were to obtain, is there any chance I'll need them down the way, or should I just dump them and move on?

Yeah once something's not used odds are you can dump it... I do hold onto items for the fun enchants... small radiant shards, essence of fire for Fiery 'chant

there's times it goes for crazy amounts

large brilliant shards and essence of air for Agility that works on BoA weapons still goes for a couple hundred gold on my server.

If bag space is at a premium check the AH for an enchanting bag, they are up to 36 slots large now while your "reasonably cheap" regular bag is 16 slots. They can only hold enchanting mats, but throw a couple of those in your bank if you want to hold mats. I've got mats for any enchants my alts may need, or just make the enchant on a scroll and let the user hold onto it until needed.

Plus trade out the other 3 with 20 slot bags. That's not unreasonable for an AH toon.

Alchemy also has a reusable flask (Flask of Enhancement) that give +80 to your Str, Agi, or Int, and a reusable mana potion. The mana potion is fun because you can get it at 65, and it restores 3k~ mana. At the time, that's a lot.

I don't see how the flask would be all that helpful tbh. Level 85 flasks give 300 of a primary stat, 380 if you're an alchemist. I guess it could be a nice boost if you're just running around or doing heroics or something, but I never bothered making one.

On my server at least, the second-best bags are generally an order of magnitude cheaper than the best bags. So unless the last four slots are a game-breaker, a 32-slot might give you a significant price break.

Personally, I keep one stack of everything just in case. The old mats don't even fill one bag, and I'll be able to make something out of stock if an alt needs it or something like that. Maybe two stacks for the mats for cosmetic and/or twink enchants - stuff I might actually make from time to time and want price certainty.

Yeah, that's about what I did. Make one, and keep it on all the times you aren't using a 'real' elixer. It's a little annoying and all, but yeah 1 GCD for free stats, would just do it when I was buffing myself.

Hmm, I guess. I just never really thought of it that way. Maybe I'll get around to making one for my shaman when I level her alchemy.
