Alchemy questions (one about transmute proc)Follow

question/comment 1.
ok, I totally understand the RNG factor in the transmute mastery issue.. but, has anyone else been PARTICULARLY unlucky for the last two weeks regarding the proc of this ability?
RNG be damned, I haven't seen a single "extra" in my daily transmutes for over two weeks now. This just feels odd because I was getting extras on my transmutes at least 3-4 times a week before that. Not many, mostly just one extra, but at least, it felt like I actually HAD a transmutation mastery specialization.

question 2.
can anyone get a discovery on flasks? or only people who have the flask mastery spec? I know it's a weird question, but, I don't belong to a large guild so I don't actually MAKE any flasks - I have very little use for them for the time being. I'm just curious if I'm seriously missing out on anything I might need down the line. (my alchemist is an alt, only level 73, alchemy level 450, concentrated on making gem transmutes and Eternal elements for our JCer and our leathercrafter)

Discoveries are not specialization-unique, anyone can learn them. They're just really really rare.

As for xmute procs, the problem with any random number system is that you can roll a 100 as often as you can roll a 1. Odds are only an indicator of probability, not absolute causality, and sometimes even when they favor you, they simply don't work out.

Thanks for the info on discoveries.

as for the xmute procs, well, damn it's annoying! LOL

it almost feels like something is broken in the game... I probably won't feel good about it until I get at least one proc of transmute mastery. I WAS feeling awful lucky getting so many before.

I am a 450 alchemist with Flask Mastery. I agree, sometimes I can make 10 flask combines and not get any extra procs, and other times, I will get 4 or 5 extra procs out of 10. While it can be depressing at times, just remember, those are just bonus items you have a chance at getting, which is more than you'd get without it. As previously stated, the chance is the same to roll 100 as it is a 1.

Be patient and keep at it, you'll get your proc soon.

Out of curiosity, do you have flasks that are on timers?
the most frustrating thing about the transmutes is that most of those I do are on a 20hr timer.

I've tried making some flasks, so far around 10, but gotten no discoveries at all.
Are flask discoveries rarer than the transmutation ones? I seem to remember getting a transmute discovery on just about every single transmute I performed when it was time - in other words, one discovery a day.

The flasks aren't on a timer. I don't remember getting a discovery from making Flasks of Endless Rage/Pure Mojo etc. I noticed I tend to get most discoveries off of my transmutes every 20 hours.

You got discoveries of flasks from doing transmutes??
I have yet to see anything other than a transmute discovery (I have all of them now, have for a while) from doing an alchemical transmutation.

By the way, it seems my RNG issue has "fixed" itself: this morning's transmute gave me 4 items.

I still get my average number of xmutes of saronite to titanium but I've yet to ever have a special xmute proc and only had a five proc on the saronite once.

As for discoveries, I got all mine from research - didn't score a single one from flasks/pots/elix/xmutes.

The BC discoveries can be gained from any BC or WotLK recipe, so potions, elixirs, flasks, and transmutes can all trigger it. The WotLK transmutes you could learn from making elixir and potions, but I think they might have changed it to only learning them from transmutes.

I got a discovery a week or so ago of a flask while doing a transmute, shame it was a TBC one, and only took 2 years+ to discover it, even after doing loads of transmutes when specced xmute master. I dropped this mastery because I thought the proc rate was a joke.

I've since changed mastery to elixir since WOTLK was released and I cant say the proc rate is all that great on that spec either, considering just how many transmutes and flasks I've made since WOTLK. I've had just one x10 and I can honestly say, I dont remember seeing anything but x2 if it procs at all.

I seem to remember the proc rate was about 1 in 7, it certainly isnt anymore. Recently made 60 flasks (120), got 6 extra, made others in batches of 40 flasks (80) without procs at all.

Talking to a guildee, his proc rate on potions is on par with what I'm seeing on elixirs, yet another one on xmute mastery is seeing a proc of about 1 in 7.

RNG ftw!
