Best Professions for PVPFollow

#1 Nov 16 2009 at 3:34 PM Rating: Decent
I am going to change my professions on my Elemental Shaman soon to something that is better for PVP. I have saved up a bunch of gold and feel like I don't need two gathering professions anymore. I do both arena and bgs a lot.

I have heard mixed feelings from guidlies about whether Engineering is good or not. I have also heard people recommend Jewelcrafting, enchanting, and inscription at various times.

Which profession do you think is the most useful for PVP (ignoring pve completely)?

Skinning - increased crit
Mining - increases max health
Herbalism - gives a HoT with a fast CD

Inscription - I don't see any benefit to that for PvP (my BG only toon is inscription but that wasn't planned).

LW - Nice to be able to make your own gear but really no benefit for PvP all said.

Tailoring - Doesn't help a shammy in the least bit for making gear and the cloak/leg buffs just aren't worth it.

Enchanting - Not bad for helping with PvP - nice to be able to chant every slot (plus rings at higher levels) but thanks to the new velums you can now get chants from the AH or your other toons.

BS - The weapons might help to a degree and being able to add extra gem slots to everything is a boon for higher levels, but for a shammy I'm thinking the benefits will be minimal.

Engineering - Seems to be the favored trade for BG toons - you get head gear at lower levels and a bunch of different mini "I WIN" buttons for all occasions, from mines to grenades to offensive mechanical pets - fighting an engineer SUCKS.

JC - A good back up skill - the trinkets and idols aren't bad and the healing statues are pretty kewl at lower levels.

Alchemy - Not bad really - you don't get much in the way of bonus gear but you'll be able to crank out whatever pots you want whenever you want (assuming you're willing to blow the gold/herbs every battle).

Happy PvPing!

If you'd use protection, that sort of thing wouldn't happen. Smiley: wink

I was going to get all defensive about Inscription and be like "shoulder chants, yay!" but then I remembered that WG has the resil shoulder enchants anyway, so... yeah. >.<

Engineering hands down.

If you're just bging, you've got the frag belt, which does damage and will stun for a few seconds. Rocket boots for a quick get away if **** gets crazy. Pyro hands, I can't even tell you how awesome pyro hands are. You can macro them into some of your spells for extra burst. They can also crit up to 4k damage.

In arena you cant use rocket boots or your frag belt.

Following this would be tailoring. Reason being is frost weave nets. Another way to snare an opponent.

I love engineering in BGs on my rogue...rocket boots have saved my life or helped me chase down a flag carrier countless times. But they are taken out of arena sadly. However almost ALL top arena players still roll with engineering for rocket gloves which is a small little burst (1500ish damage, which can crit, on a 45 second cooldown).

Jewelcrafting is probably the best stat buff. Want stam? Gem it. Want resil? Gem it. Spellpower? Gems. You can choose what stats are important to you and get a bonus over others. Most other professions are more limitted, like leatherworking I can get a nice AP boost, but if I wanted agility for instance, I couldn't do that. Or resilience.

Ideal setup IMO is engineering/jewelcrafting.

Nice stats from a nice headgear crafted by the Engineering and crafted jewel from JC help you a lot in your BG.

I love engineering (have 3 toons at 450). I don't do much bg, but in wintergrasp, rocket boots are great. As a healer, it's all about staying alive to heal the raid. Rocket boots help with that, and they are just plain fun. I find them very useful for PVE as well, to move away from a bad situation, or to catch up with the group if you've been sitting and drinking a bit.

To be fair about most of the other professions, they give increased stats in some form. No reason to mention Mining or Skinning at all if you won't discuss the stat gains by others.

I don't recall getting any passive bonuses for my professions, only gathering skills?

Every profession has some unique way to increase stats. It isn't passive--you will have to create an item and use it on your gear, but it still boosts them.

JC gets 3 Jeweler's Gems, which have superior stats to the epic ones (example--30 Stamina goes to 51 stamina).

BSing gets 2 additional sockets.

Enchanting gets ring enchants.

Inscription gets shoulder enchants.

LWing gets a bracer lining or something.

Tailoring gets cloak enchants that give a chance for an okay proc.

Enginerring gets glove enhancements, I think.

Alchemy gets increased stats from flasks, and increases their duration.

I think that's everything...

[EDIT] You did mention the BS and Enchanting bonuses, just not the others.

The herb HoT is awesome IMO for class with poor self heal options, plus the graphic is hilarious especially as a male troll- Damn hippies.
