ok before i start, i wana just say PLEASE DO NOT FLAME ABOUT GIL SELLERS HERE OR GIL BUYERS OR WHATEVER. now that thats done..

ok i was in a pt earlier with two chinese guys (they were chinese because they spoke it in chat log and i happen to have a small chinese background). this is how it started.

around JP primetime, i went out seeking with my pld and wandering around jeuno when suddenly, i recieved a /tell from this guy named Xqwl for a pt. normally when someone invites me to an exp pt, i do a /sea all "name of the person" to check his rank and job coz i might be too high or too close to level or etc. in this case, i was just ughed... he was a rank 1 53war/thf with a 1handed axe and a shield. no AFs. oh and semi poor equips. moving on, i joined him and after 30 minutes of being in the pt with 2 other guys and no progress. i said i had to go (coz i had to log to mules to check stuff. not to mention the pt wasnt going anywhere. the other guy left before i did.

so anyway i come back, go back on seek and get another invite from the guy i suspected to be a gil seller. i turned down his pt invite again and since i hate getting invited blindly, i blacklisted him. (i usually remove the name from the list after a while). he then gave me another invite and this time it was annoying. i ignored him. then i got into a better exp pt.

after my good exp pt died out, i went back to jeuno and again.. that xqwl guy invites me blindly. i ignore him once, then get another invite from him and i say, what the heck. let's see how it'll turn out. we headed to boyahda tree and we started..

here is when i started noticing how much of a poor player this guy is. our fight with the robber crab starts. the sam tells us what SC will we be doing and it looks ok. the prob is, when the sam got 100 tp, the war never did the SC right. that bad point #1. bad point #2 came from when he started pulling when we werent really ready. ugh. and then here comes point 3. our rdm leaves for a hospital emergency (hope your friend is ok) then we get a replacement rdm.. rank 2.. gimped blm sub. no AF i believe. so we continue our fight and guess what, i dont get refreshed. now normally id think this was just a fluke but here is the 2nd bad part. he doesnt dispel right.. we were hitting the crab for 2 minutes for zilch and he doesnt notice. to top it off, still no refresh. only time i did get it was when i said refresh please thrice. we eventually disbanded.. me the sam and the whm. we just got sick of it.

basically they suck. i dont know if they are potential future gil sellers or what (rank 1 and 2, level 50+, gimped subs, gimped equips, trying to level ASAP, bad performance) but please be warned of em. i honestly dont want anyone else to go through the heck i went thru today with these 2 people.

war's name was Xqwl
rdms name Magenly.

Heh, talk about coincidence, I was running around Giddeus just last night harvesting and farming and I saw that the rdm you mentioned, Magenly, was camping Hjuu Moo the Torrent (whatever its name is). I didn't bother checking him/her since they were anon, so I dunno what job Magenly was at the time. But hearing from your experience and seeing where the rdm was does lead me to believe they are a gilseller.

And that Xqwl just reeks of gilseller, I'm assuming that he most likely is indeed one.

I was in the second pt mentioned by Alsarius, he was the PLD and I the WHM.

It was hard for me to belive that not one but two people could be this bad ar playing tha game and be this high level. I couldent get a refresh to save my life, and the war kept yelling me to haste her, even though the haste order had been established.

Bottom line is just be wary of these folks, I'm not going to say they were Gilsellers, or anything like that, but they definetly made it a difficult time by lacking in basic Exp Party Skills.

Oh and Alsarius is an Excellent PLD :D

EDIT: Spelling

By accepting them, you aren't doing anything to discourage the practice.

If it makes you feel better, I managed to take one of the Hjuu pops as I was doing my loop around the area, the bird literally spawned right in front of me as I was about to do a ranged attack on a wasp ^^ Magenly just watched, didn't say anything.

They have been camping Davoi aswell, they tend to spam you with chinese tells a lot. No idea wether they are gil-sellers or not, but they are at least annoying.

im not 100% sure they are gil sellers.. (wait a sec.. why are you so curious) anyway.. lets just say most gil sellers (chinese ones at that) have a general pattern. they try to level as fast as possible to a high level and start farming mobs. not to mention they have completely gimped ranks and subjobs and equipments upto a point (i believe they are trying to spend as little possible gil to have more gil by the end of the day).

ive encountered this pattern twice in my whole stay in ffxi. one was by a set pt group (jindi, parispring, etc) was pting constantly. now i see them hunting HNMS.

and jaffar, i dont know where you're getting at but i dont like it. what would u do if someone kept sending u invites and you had to accept OTHER invites from OTHER people. ( i know, press the no to the invite acceptance choices) yes? right?

look, i dont want to teach them anything. frankly id rather let them suffer. dont get me wrong jaf. and stop provoking me into saying things i dont want to say.

I hate people like you when they pt with some chinese player that sucks ( like me.. im the worst player ever, you can ask liq, casafrass and bunch people in game, they will all tell you I sucks).. then go out yell OMG these people could be gil seller-.-.. Dont Go out post or yell OMG these people could be gil seller cuz they are chinese and they sucks... /sigh.. sorry for the rant, but get over the topic about gil seller already-.- Who cares if they are gil seller or not..

so much for the disclaimer i put on top >.>

anyway in response to the last one, this is why i had that "oh lets give it a shot" and why i joined that guys pt. i gave them what you would call "the benefit of the doubt". as for the issue of gil sellers, i ddnt come here to rant about it. i just wanted to ask (look at the topic, its not a statement its a question) for some clarifications and other peoples observations (which i got some ty for those) about these two individuals in our server. frankly i care about what will happen to our server if the number of gil sellers would happen to increase.

gil sellers increase = prices fluctuate a bit more = new players become victims.

this is the only reason why i care about it so much (coz i was once a new player and felt i lacked so much money when i looked at astral rings back then at 150k >.>)

i wouldnt instantly label a chinese player with rank 1 /2 char with a gimped sub as a gil seller. he could have switched alliance, switched subjob to do whatever he feels like etc etc but when you start pting and these "bad" qualities still remain, you begin to wonder the true intention of the player. normally, a gamer (like you and me and 99% of us) would want to have DECENT equips / sub jobs / requirements. common admit it its com

oh and about the "stfu" and blist thing, il only do it if im quite certain that person was a gil seller (and now that i have a little more reassurance from other people, ive left them there in my blist).

ok lets end this discussion there. honestly i dont want to turn this into a gil seller flame thread. just want to inform and confirm these two.

edit: and no, i didnt know this xqwl person was a gil seller. ive never encountered him thats why.

and yes naru, id blame it on the gil buyers. they create the demand for such a thing (but i ant pointing fingers who is buying gil)

gil sellers have feelings too you know. my brother was partying with Killersman(?) once in CN and right next to his party were a bunch of rank1 noobs. i mean the entire party was rank1 windurst. Anyway, my bro started yelling gil seller this and gil seller that and "let's go mpk them" (he never did, just wanted to see their reactions). Next thing you know, Killersman disbanded and joined the gil seller group. When he checked him, he was also a rank1 windurstian. lol (they were lvl 45ish)

back to the OP:

at lvl 50+, players should know some etiquette about inviting other players. if they constantly did that to me, i'd probably be pissed also. next time try calling a GM for harassment =P

hmm never thought of calling a gm.. never have so that might be why. maybe i will next time.

and yeh i agree they have feelings too.. they are people you know. thats why i didnt bash em when i left the pt. all i said was i had stuff to do good bye. i was suppose to say RMT party no thanks but opted not to.

A GM more than likely won't do anything, but they may at least make you feel better about the situation. They're here to serve, after all. ^_^

Even into the 70s people who are or aren't gil sellers do not know how to play their job. Please do not sterotype all sucky players as being "gil sellers." If I were to constantly mine Gusgen and spam you with chinese what would you think? By the way, you can change your allegiance for 10,000, and that automatically places you at rank 1. Just a thought.

Nekolas

Just a note, I went out of my way not to accuse them of Gilselling, but to just warn my fellow players that Magenly and Xqwl are just lacking in the skills that they should have obtained throughout the leveling process.

This could mean any number of things, bought account, different people playing the same char on different shifts, or they were just tolerated through 50+ levels of N00bness. The latter seeming more difficult to believe.

Again, I am aware that there is a trend among known Gilsellers such as low rank, bad equipment, and just plain being bad, but I will give the benifit of the doubt and assume one of my three theories is correct.

:D

Lately there are a whole lot more... not to mince words, 'poor' players out there, regardless of current levels and range. THFs who can't pull or can't SATA, THFs who think SATA is useless, RNGs who use iron arrows at 60+, mages with gear that make you go, "Huh?!", and many many other examples. Some could speak Englis, others can't.

Can't immediately generalise these people as gil sellers though. Morons, perhaps, but gil sellers... probably not.
