While I think the concept is good in principle, I'm unsure how successful it will be in practice.
Perhaps I am wrong, but I believe a linkshell is similar to a family. You help each other in the good times and the bad times.
It is the shared struggles and triumphs that make the bonds between members of a linkshell strong.
*Example 1*
For example, myself and 2 other people in the linkshell were helping out another member get his AF Helm. While on the way through Garlaige Citadel, we had a mishap and fought some explosures ---long story/result----> explosures went boom, we became suddenly dead.
Two fellow members of our linkshell valiently came to try to raise our carcasses. But unfortunately, our bodies were sitting in the short tunnel between the explosures rooms before you come upon the stairs leading towards banishing gate3.
The first rescuer died after attracting an explosure by casting raise. A third member of our linkshell, whm55 I believe, rushed from jeuno to try to restore us to the living.
Luckily for us, a bst was in the area and happened to come upon our unfortunate incident and killed one of the explosures to provide a pocket of room for the newly arrived whm to start raising us.
After we got back on our feet, we went through banishing gate 3, couldn't find the coffer for our linkshell member. We then proceeded to banishing gate 2 and couldn't find the coffer there either....probably someone got the coffer just before us and it hadn't respawned yet.
We decided to try to kill mobs behind banishing gate 2 for a while in the hopes that the coffer would spawn closeby and also to try to get a few coffer keys for various members.
60-90 minutes later, when we were about to leave, we did a final check of the spawn points and virtually right in front of me, the coffer spawns....our friend gets his af helm and our primary goal is accomplished.
While our primary goal was accomplished, it did not come without a cost...One of our linkshell members died four times that night :( , a few of us died once.
This willingness to sacrifice and help out a linkshell members complete a goal is a price we are willing to pay because of the bonds of affection, respect and friendship we hold for each other.
Later on that night, we were able to get two coffer keys to drop for people :)
*Example 2*
Castle O. ~ I was able to solo it /cheer myself on .... j/k ... but I did solo it without dying
Finishing up G3 - a fellow linkshell member offers to help me to finish it today .... Thank you RMorMK (you know who you are I /salute you).
Beadeaux ~ no mishaps, smooth sailing to get the quadav crest.
Davoi ~ Just want to say, I always hated this place. We had to finish the mini-quest to get the charm to take down the wall to enter the second part of Mon. Caverns. We had to touch the wall first before we could talk to the taru npc to get the mini-quest. This is where I blame myself for our calamity, I had summoned a pet to attack an orc guarding the wall and unfortunately, my pet didn't grab the attention of all the orcs :( We ran back to the island with the npc taru and promptly died there. Luckily for us, a nearby rdm raised out lifeless bodies. We then proceeded to complete the mini-quest to get the charm, and we then proceeded to get the orcish charm. So in helping me complete G3, my fellow linkshell member died; and consequentially, deleveled and couldn't wear his pimp hat anymore :( I will most definitely help him if he requires any help I can offer him in the future....maybe the LS can organize an Eldieme coffer run for you and a few others?
In conclusion, I don't think there is anything wrong with having membership in multiple linkshells, but how committed will you be to a strictly "Business Linkshell" that members populate only when they need help? How many times are you willing to die to help someone out? I believe a feeling of ennui or disenfrancisement will eventually seep into the people who are committing alot of time, energy and effort without any tangible return....or how will you keep the "Helpers" energized, enthusiastic, and continue their willingness to help the "Helpees" in the long run? I think that is the fundlemental question.
