Taru pld in all honesty is a highly misunderstood job/race combo. At the same time it is also done very differently from other pld jobs. You will need a bunch of hp+ and mp to hp gear. And at the same time you will be a bit more dependent on your mp than other races. So you have to know how to be a whm afor yourself and conserve at the same time. It gets complicated at times. But its fun. I've done pld to 37 myself.

One big misunderstanding though: tarutaru vit is not that much lower than other races. Not enough to make a huge significant difference. Even at 75 it is only a few points difference. So no worries if this is the job you want ot do.

The /only/ thing that can be a real problem for taru pld is: the hp. One shot mobs can cause you problems. They might not one shot you mind you, but they might. XD Its tough.

But... taru plds can hold MASSIVE hate because of their large mp size. So there are benefits and dissadvantages to this combo.

You just have to learn how to work with the advantages and disadvantages to do the job well. But so you know how well taru plds can do: some of PoS' top PLDs (POS = the current top JP HNM LS on ragnarok since MM stopped hunting in a big way) -- some of their top PLDs are, in fact, taru.
They have a taru PLD tank fafnir, kirin, etc.

TheCalm (one of the larger NA LS') has a taru pld that has tanked stuff as well.

So taru plds are not so bad. XD

To me a Taru is simply the best PLD till lvl 60 because of his cure potential. That really help building the hate and make it for the lack of HP and VIT. However, post lvl 60 mobs start hitting really hard - Toramas are the best exemple - so from that lvl I'd prefere a Galka or Elvaan. But still, with so much mp, a good HP equip and the RSE gears it will work not bad at all end game.

I actually have only partied with 2 taru pld's but they were uber...only problem with them that I had was trying to line up SATA...got way to hard trying to see them from the mob always hitting.

Seeing as how I am one of the few Taru PLDs on the server I can give my input.

Taru PLD is extremely fun. Early on you will have hp problems, I used Physical Earrings until around level 30. After that my max hp was high enough that I didn't have to worry so much about hp+ unless the mob was capable of one-shotting me. My best advice is keep top notch gear, and carry around some interchangable equipment depending on the situation. I carry a set of Pigeon Earrings as well as a Drone/Mercenary combo. I also carry VIT+ rings and def+ rings depending on the situation.

My last major piece of advice is to learn how the damage curve works with VIT and DEF. There are some good posts about it in the Paladin forum. Having knowledge of how damage is resolved is very beneficial to any PLD.

I say go for it, and good luck!

There's a recent-ish thread on this subject in the Job Forums --> Paladin. Lots of good tips.

I've said this before in some post long ago. The best PLD I ever pt'd with (way back when I played on Caitsith) was a taru.

I'm probably not much help here since I"m only lvl 18 PLD, but the job is a ton of fun, and yes even with 2 Physical Earrings, I stilled had able MP to cure myself, and yes we can hold massive amounts of hate. Just like all the posters stated before get as much +HP as you can. I know that all our RSE pieces do a nice job of that.

Actually I'm now a lvl 50 Taru PLD and I never once wore Taru RSE.
Unless you are fighting a mob that can one-shot kill you, or a HNM this is how priorities should lie.

VIT>DEF>HP>AGI>everything else

Some would debate AGI and HP, but that's hwo I see it, and what works for me.

If you aren't a blink tank HP>AGI

That's what I think, anyway. ^_^

I have leveled my little taru pld to 44 in a set pt with friends. I have to agree it is great fun. I initially decided to lvl pld because I thought I would look highly cute in the AF...but it is fun. Go all out with HP/MP gear though....Luckily most of that isn't THAT expensive. I was happy to see that. I originally bought my bloodbead amulet for SMN lvl 20 battles, and still wear it for my pld.

I actually tried RSE for a short time in my 30s, and discoverred that I preferred the german armor much much more than the RSE. And, I was lucky that I borrowed that armor from my friend who had just upgraded his PLD armor. Since I normally play mage jobs, it took a while for me to get used to casting while getting hit, but .....

I have been experimenting with my friends, and my DEF and VIT is really only a few points off theirs at that lvl (HUME and GALKA)...galka has HUGE advantage over me with HP....but, with all my HP gear it is not as bad as I thought it would be...and even he admits that I do a decent job holding hate (he's a taru BLM in my set). AND, I don't die that often...mainly because the whm spams cures on me constantly and the other melee all have sub nin. Good luck and have fun.
