As a few of you might know (my entire LS who have had to put up with me whining on MSN Messenger for example :p), I've returned to my university's halls of residence after being home for Xmas for 6 weeks, and the LAN here won't let me get onto POL, so no FFXI for a couple of months. /cry

I've tried allsorts to beat the uni's fascist IT department and get past the network security, but alas no joy. So, if there's any other FFXI addicts who can't play the beautiful game for a while, old friends who want to let me know how they're getting on in Vana'diel or plain nasty pieces of work who want to /laugh at my misfortune, come post here. As I am boooooooored...... ^^

Ask them if they have a dial-up service. The LAN here at UNF blocks most of FFXI (I can get as far as to where I select my character, but I never get fully into the game) but I can play just fine with the dial-up they have. It isn't the best choice of connections, but it gets the job done and that's what matters.

Can't get dial-up here in the halls, and the IT department are not playing ball at all. We use a proxy server where the only open port we can use is 80, apparently for security reasons. So no Kazaa, Imesh, Shareaza, not even Bittorrent works here. 10mb/s connection and sod all I can do with it, lol >.<

Managed to download all 26 episodes of Cowboy Bebop from some Anime website which was pretty cool, but that's about it. If anyone can suggest any sites I could maybe get some stuff from or other creative ways to waste my time it'd be much appreciated.

I'm thinking about going wireless, not sure how expensive it'd be though. I'll plug it into Google and see what comes up.

I use a wireless modem from RoadRunner Time Warner,but its incompatible with online games since it splits into 4 IP Adresses and FFXI only excepts one. The guys at Time Warner told me that i need would need a hard-line cable connection to play. Since I started playing FFXI I was using my 6 months free AOL dialup from my new computer but it expired,so I can only play FFXI every 3 weeks or so at my Father;s house,until my mom gets hard-lined cable ;_;. I wish I had AOL still ;_; I left FFXI as a 60 DRG I havnt played for 5 weeks,im afraid to come back in fear that all my friends are like 70+ and everyone who was like 45-50 that I know is now like 60-65 ;_;.

Yeah, you should be able to set up an http tunnel through the 1 open port. The only bad side to this is that they usually charge for this service.

That link may help you. I have never played around with the program becuase they charge. But it seems like it would get around your port blocking problem. "Port Masking" is what they call it. I'm sure you can configure it to port 80 only (seems like it would be the default setting). If you know of a free one, let me know.

Thanks very much, a friend of mine who is more knowledgeable in these matters gave Http Tunnel a bash, but I'll give it a shot. Once I feel less hungover. How on Earth did I manage to spend £40 at a club where it was 50p a drink?
