To [In a sense] Celebrate my triumphant Return to Dragoon, I have decided to turn my dusty old linkshell sitting in my moghouse into a Dragoon-specific linkshell.

Our servers' Dragoons need a better sense of community! It starts here. If you're interested, and have chosen Dragoon to be your main job, send a 3x5 postcard to.. wait a second.. I mean.. Send a /tell to Lenwei, or /befriend Lenwei and send a POL message [the second of which being the preffered method, since I am often busy, or AFK..]..

^^; I'll think of cool things to do with the linkshell.. When it gets big enough I want have a group linkshell photo, and If it's before christmas, I'll turn it into a christmas card :x. Aint that nifty?

Well anyway, yeah.. I don't care WHAt level dragoon you are.. as long as it's your main job, you're in.

[There's only a few people in the server that I've banned from the shell, and they know who they are.]

just curious, what made you drop rng and go back to drg?
#5 Nov 28 2004 at 6:20 AM Rating: Decent
Because Dragoon > Ranger. Isn't that right, Lenwei? ;)

More power to those underappreciated Dragoons, I say. If I see one searching, and we need more DD, I'll invite them in a heartbeat.

I'll help them when I can. Hey anyone who sticks with an underappreciated job deserves some props. I enjoy partying with dragoons and I hate seeing people who love the job give it up because of the gross misunderstanding of it.

It's not so much unappreciated as it is ruined by dragoons that don't know how to play their jobs. My best friend is a lvl 74 dragoon and has spent countless hours being the best dragoon possible. There's more to dragoons than just jumping, and hitting the mob. Jump and High Jump do two totally different things. Look into it. You feel it's underappreciated because not very many high levels get party invites easily. I've sat through parties with dragoons in them asking my friend if what they're doing is right, and him telling me no. I offer some advice, and they still don't listen. Inviting anybody who doesn't know how to play their job is more of a burden than a favor. Yes, we all have our good days and bad, but the more you know, the better you'll be, even on the bad days. Another thing is equip. My friend is a Hume, which is debatably the worst race for dragoons. He has differnt sets of armor, and has spent a lot of gil getting the armor/weapons that makes him better.

So, do yourselves a favor as a community and research the job a little bit. Go the extra mile and get what makes you the best. Spend the extra time learning how to do things right. Listen to (most of) the people who know what they're doing. Don't think that dragoons are the coolest job and go bragging or complaining about it, it's going to make you look like an ***hole, and nobody wants to PT with ***holes. There are plenty of jobs that need fixing/ have as much trouble as the rest.

That's kind of the same with all of the jobs though. People pick up bad habits early on if they don't have proper teachers and continue with them throughout their career. Which is why a linkshell like this is so important. Because you guys can teach the newer players the better tactics. I try to help anyone interested in my first love of SMN, and I'm always willing to take advice from others (if that isn't advice isn't just use earthen ward and aerial armor).

here's an idea: why don't you let us poor dark knights in as well? then we can all commiserate over lack of party invites? perhaps we can also bridge the gap between the two jobs, too? instead of knocking each other, we should band together!

what's the deal with all the dragoon hate anyway? every dragoon i've ever partied with has been excellent... i always look out for one seeking when i'm setting up a party.

I've never figured out why the hate towards either job. I love playing as a drk and plan on playing with that job after I reach 75 on my first job.

Both a dark and dragoon can add a lot to a party and I think the only time I was hesitant to invite a dark was one time when we were making do without a refresher in the party and was trying to keep magic users to a minimal. But we invited the drk anyway and all went well.

yeah, having a refresher is pretty sweet for dark knights, but i always carry around a couple stacks of water crystals and pineapples just in case! lucky for me my (semi)-set party has a bard in it.

Drks have nothing to complain about. Drg has that myth that they suck which they dont, the drk job doesnt suck and noone in their right mind thinks that. BUt it must be said that a substantial number of drks donot put the time annd effort into learninng their job and farming for the right equip, and that makes a bad drk. Seems alot of people fall in love with the dmg that a drk can do and just focus on that and forget that if thats all they're doing they are not doing their job fully and can be replaced by any other DD if thats the case.

We've all seen drks with crappy equip and not knowing how to use their abs properly which makes them like a thf that cant sata on time. Next to useless.

I guess its the same with all jobs. You all serve a purpose and if you know how to do your job you will be an asset. I've seen rngs that are garbage because of their equip and not fireing as much as they should. Im sure we've seen garbage thf's too, who cant sata properly or dont charge it before they come to camp. Its less the job than the player and dedication to be good at the job.

All said any melee reguardless of the job will have trouble finding pts. Its just a fact of life unfortunatly. Im a thf and unless its people Ive played with I dont see invites jumping out of the sky.

I remember when I met Lenwei he was leveling in Crawler's Nest, and I sent a /tell explaining that he'd inspired me to strive to be a great DRG, among of one my few friends that support me in my efforts, and now I see he's come back? I would be more than honored to be able to join his ranks of dragoons. Right now I can't exactly get into FFXI, but when I'm back, I would love to join this Linkshell (It also helped that my last one just kinda... disbanded).

I honestly think that a lot of the anti-drg hype comes from the fact that many DRGs don't know how to properly utilize their abilities also.. That's another purpose of this LS.. Just like a BST LS will guide new bsts along their leveling journey, a new DRG needs tips and tricks too..

Being a trick partner can be a simple, and complicated thing, depending on the situations.. What's better than having a linkshell full of experienced dragoons who can aid you in any problems you face?

My main goals of this linkshell:

-A sense of community
-A guide for those who are just starting their long DRG journey
-Perhaps a remedy to that myth that DRG sucks.. Maybe if we all can do our job well, there will be a turnaround, of sorts.
-To have a sanctuary for those dragoons who are tired of going into linkshell after linkshell and having anti-DRG players hound them. [I've gotten that a lot...]

I'm in that LS nearly 24/7, waiting to help those that need it. I'm there for comfort, and for hope. I'm lvl 70. I'll hit 75, and I'll claw my way into people's respect. Heck, perhaps I'll even get into HNM LS, but I won't get my hopes up.. Still, perhaps if I can give just ONE dragoon hope, I'll have accomplished something.

I just hope people will stay in this LS often enough to keep it alive.. And even if they forget about it, I'll still be there, ready to help.

I'm glad to see that you have gone back. I for one can not. I just don't have the time to sit looking for party. Plus now that i'm the main tank for my set party means I don't have much time for anything else besides farming and tanking :p. anyway I have tons of advice on how to play dragoon very well. My specialty is definitly pulling though any Dragoon who would like some expert advice in pulling mobs effectively send them this way and i'll show them how to do it.

I still think what you are doing is a good thing. It's a fun job to play and I think one people shy away from because of the myth surrounding it. Mine is a whopping level 10 so I haven't had too much experience with it, but I did have it out in a party for the first time last night leveling with some friends. It was the only job I had near them. I had a blast playing with it. Definately a huge change up from the mage jobs I normally play. Fortunately, I had a party who was willing to let me figure out how to play the job and I have to say, it was some of the most fun I had in the dunes. Kind of sucked that I had to leave but I had promised a friend help with AF and he was having trouble.
