The season has begun. First impressions of what I've seen so far(spoilers only marked if they spoil anything that you don't see in the episode description or the first couple minutes of the first episode):

I suspect that Bloodivores is shaping up to be Vampire Deadman Wonderland.

Izetta, the Last Witch seems interesting. Story of an alternate universe WW2(with no mention of Japan, suspiciously) where the princess of a small kingdom tries to save it from invasion, fails, but runs into an old friend who just happens to be a witch.

Magical Girl Raising Project seems like its going to be something akin to a cross between Madoka and Battle Royale.

The Ancient Magus' Bride feels like a cross between equal parts heartwarming, Flying Witch kinda story and Effed Up Backstory.

Kaiju Girls is silly. But short. While nothing can replace Bananya in our hearts, we shall surely find it replaces the time I would have spent watching more Bananya if it hadn't ended.

Aooni...well, just watch the first episode. Another short one.

Magical Girl Raising Project seems like the only even remotely interesting show this season.

I should watch Mahoutsukai no Yome though. I love the manga but completely forgot they were doing an anime.

Watch Nyanbo! as well, as it takes place in the Yotsuba&! and maybe Azumanga Dioh universe.

There is going to be a live-action JoJo movie, they're starting with Diamond is Unbreakable instead of Phantom Blood for some reason.

Looked it up. My guess based on the first episode? Yeah, I was more or less right.

Also, apparently there's a Strike Witches spin off this season called Brave Witches. THE WAR ON PANTS CONTINUES! Smiley: yippee

Now to see if it's simulcasting anywhere I have access to.

Considering all the posing they should just record a fashion show and dub the lines over it.

I'd still watch it.

So, "Keijo!!!!!!" is an interesting ecchi anime that goes and screws it up by being too much of a sports anime. Luckily, "My Wife is the Student Council President" is back for another season, so pointlessly naughty anime is reasonably well represented.

Too many shows to also keep track of anime, but it looks like One Punch Man got a second season.

Marathon that on Halloween if you end up stuck at home. It's got zombies and ridiculous fanservice. Basically, like a Halloween frat party back before those became illegal.

Move these two to the top of your list, with Mob Psycho going first because it has the fewer amount of episodes.

Really looking forward to season 2 of One Punch Man and Attack on Titan. The best anime I've seen recently was Himouto! Umaru-chan and Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai.

Kuwoobie, you're likely finding 90% of anime fairly boring because 90% are. Like any medium, there's a fair amount of junk. If you spent more time curating shows I think you'll end up having an increased likelihood of enjoying each series. This can be as simple as looking up the series on myanimelist.net to see both the rating and similar series. IF you like similar series and it has a good rating, then it's likely worth you time to try.

There's quite a bit on your list I haven't seen, but I'll toss another vote in for Hunter x Hunter. The skeleton is that of a battle shounen, but the author Togashi is quite imaginative, subversive, and fairly focused on world building. The anime will be quite long, and so will be quite a bit of a time investment. An alternative would be to read the manga, as the anime follows it exactly and manga can be consumed at a faster pace than anime.

A recent series I enjoyed was Ping Pong: The animation. It's directed by Masaaki, and so if you're familiar with his other works (Tatami Galaxy, Kaiba, Kemonozume) you have an idea of what to expect.

Of the things you listed, quick thoughts:

space-patrol-luluco : Short, but well done. I personally dislike the short format, but Trigger did a good job.
KonoSuba : Enjoyable character driven show. Highly deranged.
Death Note (10 episodes in so far need to finish) :High tier drama
Psycho Mob 100 : By OPM creator, very reminiscent; basically a Shonen with weird sense of humor.
Re: Zero: Interesting, but goes kinda ham at the end.

Is this where we all make lists of the best anime and judge one another based off what we've picked? That sounds like a lot of fun to me.

Mahou Madoka
Shin Sekai Yori

Evangelion
Fate:Zero
Kino's Journey
Utena

Psycho Pass S1
Attack on Titan
Cowboy Bebop

Uhh... Monogatari I guess.

Special mention goes to flawed masterpiece Akuma no Riddle and the anime of Chang Ge Xing which will definitely be great whenever or if ever it's made. Also, most anime really does suck, it's hard to think of ten genuinely great ones. This season just looks garbage.

Ah. Forgot to add that one to my list.

If I were to start listing favorite all-time anime, I'd probably have Kill la Kill on top. I really enjoyed it-- but I feel it would not have been nearly as good if I had watched it all at once as it stands today. There was something about watching one episode every week as they came out and anticipating the next one that made it really exciting somehow. I feel the same way about Walking Dead currently. I know a lot of people who are just now catching up and watch all the episodes back to back and I kind of feel bad for them for having to experience it all that way.

As far as a list of anime I like, it pretty much matches Timelordwho's more or less. I'd add Watamote to it obviously, seeing how I made a whole long emotional thread about it once. I know there are quite a few others I liked but can't even think of them due to being near dead with tiredness.

A quick reference. I'd probably make a few adjustments now and I haven't updated it as much as I should.

I enjoy recommending people series, even when they don't ask.
Kavekkk wrote:

Shin Sekai Yori - Juuni Kokuki also does a very good job at world building. The biggest crime is that it's part of an ongoing book series and so there is plenty more story.

Kino's Journey - Mushishi. More disconnected stories exploring human nature and our relationship to the world. Possibly gentler and slower paced. For a more heated take look into Casshern Sins.

Utena - Princess Tutu. A fair amount of allegory, and also mimics some of the repetitive scenes. The music is far from original, but also still superb. Princess Tutu is remarkable for its ability to be enjoyed by either taking it too seriously or not at all.

Attack on Titan - Code: Geass. Action and intrigued nonstop.

Monogatari - Katanagatari is by the same author. I cannot deny that Nisio is a skilled technical writer. His word play is marvelous, though often lost in translation. He has more genre awareness than any Japanese writer I know. However, Monogatari was made intolerable for me by those overwhelming focus on fanservice. Katanagatari fixes this.

Timelordwho wrote:
Gurren Lagann - Somewhat orthogonal, but you might try Angel Beats!. Angel Beats cares far, far less about manliness or exponentiation, but both series have very likely casts of perhaps somewhat deliberately shallow characters. Both are strong focused on feeling rather than pure plot. Whereas Gurren Lagann is "GWAR" Angel Beats is more "Heck D'aww!"

If I could force anyone to try one series t would be Mononoke (no not princess, and watch the last 3 episodes of Ayakashi: Classic Horror first).

Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki seems to not have gotten too much attention from mainstream western anime fans, even though it's pretty top notch.

I forgot to mention Death Parade. It's pretty good for an anime a friend made me watch.
