Here it is.

Looks nice. The style is more in line with the old movies, which is a good thing. I just hope they don't overdo it with comic relief idiocy like our beloved JarJar.

That was most of the cubicle discussions here at work today.

I thought this movie was supposed to be a Star Wars movie? Not a single damn thing in that trailer happened in space.

If the goal was to get me excited about the movie, this trailer failed.

Oh look! A droid, some space ships, and a lightsaber! Like I couldn't have predicted there would be any of THOSE in the movie.

Am I looking forward to the movie? Yes. Did this trailer add anything at all to the hype? No. Not in the slightest.

The trailer had no lensflares. So that's something.

The lightsaber guards are kinda silly. Now, if they had added in a cortosis-weave handguard, it would have been cool. But I can't get over how goofy the lightsaber guards look.

I thought all Storm Troopers were clones. Did I miss something, or did they bake that one at the beginning a little too long?

I thought so too... but:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Stormtrooper
Quote:
As the ranks of the Stormtrooper Corps were steadily replenished with enlisted troopers from both Human and Non-Human sources alike, the Empire's once heavy reliance on clones diminished over time, mainly due to the loss of Kamino and other various worlds that held cloning facilities. In addition to the highly expensive operation of consistently producing clone soldiers, the practice was complicated by two other reasons—the most effective clones that were grown in the Kaminoan-fashion took too long to reach full maturity and the fast-grown Spaarti clones were of extremely poor quality.

In the Thrawn trilogy by Zahn the method of cloning is very powerful and rare and only in these books does the Imperium (or what's left of it) rediscover how to clone their soldiers. At what point in the timeline did cloning cease to be the go to procedure of the Imperial forces?

I don't know. There are references on the article. Sure one of them explains it.

Right after the Emperor took over he banned cloning to keep his enemies from mass producing an army to challenge him. This of course drove Kamino and other cloning specialists out of business. However the Emperor kept a hidden facility for his personal use. Thrawn learned of the facility and took the remaining functional ones for his plans.

Thanks for explaining. Smiley: smile

Some parodies of the teaser. The George Lucas Special Edition is really nice.

Are lightsaber handles made of lightsaber-proof materials? Because, otherwise, that guard just looks like a good way for someone to cut your lightsaber in half.

Only ones designed with that in mind, normal hilts use standard for the universe components. Rare lightsaber-resistant materials as Cortosis Ore and Mandolorian Iron were normally used for body armor.

You're more likely to cut yourself open with that design.

I still say Cortosis weave handguards would be just as effective and less stupid looking.

Also, #BlackStormtrooper on Twitter is full of a lot of really stupid people.

This is what happens when you spread your canon over multiple types of media and don't make much of an effort to connect them.

Edit: Excellent marketing ploy, though.

Since they decided most of the books and comics of the last two decades did not really happen I wonder how much of the information on the various Star Wars wikis is even relevant to the movie(s) anymore.
I gather that's an old-ish topic but I only found out about the Expanded Universe being labeled as Legends and not being worth a damn yesterday.

I'm not emotionally invested since I haven't read a Star Wars book in more than 10 years but I still think this to be an incredibly bad decision. Would it have been so hard to write a story within the existing universe? Meh...

Fixed that for you. Didn't watch the video, but IIRC the majority of that rant is Star Wars and Marvel characters.
