So Disney let James Gunn, the guy who worked at Troma and wrote Terror Firma and Tromeo & Juliet for them, go because a decade ago he tweeted some off-color pedo jokes. So Guardians 3 will have a different director, so here's hoping whoever they are has halfway decent taste in music.

When I first watched Unbreakable all those years ago, I didn't really see this coming:

I'm not exactly a fan of Shamalamadingdong. I think it's 50/50 on the "good and okay" vs "just bad" movies for me. Will have to see if Glass gets added to the "Good and Okay" side along with Unbreakable and Split.

Edit:
Also looks like the gal from Split, and her very large... eyes..., return in Glass.

Shazam trailer: Could be cool. Couple of decent jokes. Suit looks better in the trailer than it does in the official pictures.

Aquaman trailer: Doesn't really do anything for me. Black Manta looks neat.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer: Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah, and SKREE-ONK.

Deadly Class trailer: Neat.

Walking Dead Season 9 returns October 7: Rick is leaving, Whisperers are joining.

The Gifted Season 2 returns September 29: Boy Fenris became Malfoy?

Black Lightning Season 2 returns October 9 trailer clip-show:

Arrow Season 7 returns October 15: Neat seeing Black Dynamite Bronze Tiger return.

Supergirl Season 4 returns October 14: ... which is a Sunday? Competing with AMC sounds like they're trying to kill this show. They're adding a trans character, and this show has been historically horrible when it comes to social commentary so this should be a fun season.

This is getting tedious ...

The Flash Season 5 returns October 9 The ring, and Tom Cavanagh says he'll be playing a new version named "Sherloque Wells." Wonder what that is about, says no one.

Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 returns October 22 Beebo will return.

Outcast is back, and weather knocked out half of the first episode so I need to get another copy of that before I can really say anything. The first half of that episode was pretty tame, though.

Finally caught up on Preacher. Brought in the Duke hallucinations at last. Also Starr and Humperdoo shenanigans are always appreciated.

I'm surprised to say this, but Aquaman looks alright. The story isn't terribly original, basic origin story and rise to power stuff. But the visuals are pretty solid and the action scenes look well done. Not to mention, it's a DC movie that doesn't look like it'll be all gloomy and depressing.

Also, while the last Godzilla movie was just awful, King of the Monsters might not suck..might not. The story already seems to be getting in the way of what a monster movie should be, a bunch of monsters fighting each other. But, they at least have brought the monsters, hopefully, they'll get their share of screen time this time around.

Looks like someone at DC Movies didn't like Superman: Doomsday.

The Death of Superman is out on digital now, and BluRay in a couple weeks (If the commercial I saw is accurate).

Edit: Reading up on it, it seems this version will be a two part movie. Second movie coming sometime early next year.

Out of all the movie trailers, I think Shazam has me interested the most. I'm not actually sure if I'll bother with Aquaman in the theaters. Seems like something that should have played out before the Justice League movie.

And Deadly Class has me hoping for some over the top violence akin to say.... Kingsman or something.

Seems that Walking Dead super-fan, Yvette Nicole Brown, is going to host the Talking Dead. Cause of those abuse claims against Hardwick.
Looks like Hardwick is back on for his AMC shows. Apparently there was no evidence of his being abusive or whatever.

As far as rumors are concerned, there is one now circulating that both New Mutants and Dark Phoenix are all but scrapped and won't even release anymore. Not sure about Dark Phoenix, but I can believe that for New Mutants considering it was pushed back so far that they could have filmed an entirely new movie.

I imagine the second part of the Death of Superman v3.61 movie is Reign of the Supermen?

Read that Yvette will still host for the upcoming special next week.

Really surprises me that they pushed out New Mutants so far. I even saw trailers in the movie theater (I think it was before Thor Ragnarok last year). Figured the movie was just on the editing floor waiting to be released. Seems like scrapping something that far along would be quite the waste. But I haven't read or seen anything on it...

Edit:
Quote:

Seems that way. In Doomsday Superman was dead for a very short time, and they only explored one Superman alternative. Everything condensed into a very short story. sound like in Death / Reign there will be a longer time without Superman, and multiple Supermen-alternatives to fill the void.

It took me a minute to remember that on Preacher that Starr got shot earlier in the season so the ***** Head joke came as a bit of a surprise. Also I laughed way too much at the "Humper Doo Doo" graffiti.

IMAX is still listing X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants for 2019 releases, at least according to their quarterly earnings report.

Not sure if ever mentioned, but Seann William Scott is replacing Clayne Crawford as the resident psycho on Fox's Lethal Weapon. He won't be Riggs, though. He'll be a new character named Wesley Cole, described as "a war veteran and a father. Wesley and Maggie Lawson's Natalie Flynn, an emergency room surgeon, share a son together. Said son is the result of Wesley and then-medic Natalie's brief romance in an active war zone. Flash forward ten years, and Wesley has moved to L.A. so he can be closer to Natalie and their son."

That chick's hair in the Aquaman trailer looks like half-assed Little Mermaid cosplay. It's distractingly bad and unnatural. Needs some highlights & low-lights instead of the monotone magenta block on her head.

I think my favorite was the police / dispatcher conversation:

Dispatcher: Reports of a man entering a petting Zoo.
Police: We are responding to a bank rob...
Dispatcher: It's TC.
Police: *U-Turns*

Interested in what Hitler's story line will do.

James Wan has regularly said that the water effects are going to be amazing, but there's almost nothing in the trailer that even indicates there's water in the first place, so I kind of just assume that Mera's hair and such will look different once all the post-production filters are added.

New cartoon about DC's Superpets because, why not. I was thinking that the new art style in cartoons, that floppy noodle arm cheeto grin mouth style, was the worst it could possibly get, but then I saw this show's.

Marc Maron and Bryan Callen join Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro in Todd Philip's Joker solo movie.

I got a kick out of the Flash's pet being a turtle. In a Flash outfit. But that is some horrid animation. Maybe if it was Ren and Stimpy style and animated like that it'd work. But I doubt it will be.

Speaking of current animation trends. If you ever paid attention to the "Total Drama <insert noun here>" animated reality parodies... there is a new one, seems to have gotten something similar to the Teen Titans Go! / Ben 10 Go! treatment. All the characters are 4 year olds. I think I saw the commercial on CN the other day. Or maybe it was online somewhere. I forget. Everything blends into one for me these days.

I watched The Outsider on Netflix over the weekend. Leto can act well, I guess. He didn't do much in that movie, except knock up the girl who played Yukio on Deadpool 2 (she's still cute). But this Joker movie isn't going to have him play it? And another one is still being made that will have Leto? What's going on in the DC Universe? It's almost like if Marvel kept making Hulk movies with Bana or Norton.

Or if Spiderman kept getting recast and rebooted every couple mov... oh, wait.

Honestly, the only reports I really take seriously when it comes to DC movies are ones that have trailers. Any other reports I just think of as random rumors. DC just spent way too much time saying this movie is being made, and that movie is being worked on that it just became ridiculous.

I'm taking the munchkin to see Christopher Robin this weekend.

So the Venom movie has a trailer or two so that might be real, and Sony is still occasionally talking about that Black Cat Silver Sable movie, now on top of that trash heap there's rumors that Richard Wenk, the guy who wrote Equalizer 2, has been brought on board to write a Kraven the Hunter movie.

Add Supergirl on to the pile of projects "in development" over at Warner. Because making MoS2 just doesn't make any sense. I guess at least it won't be as preachy as the tv show.

I just realized the woman playing Nora West-Allen on Flash also played Max on Black Sails. She seems much younger in Flash... (and much more naked in Black Sails...)

Better Call Saul returns tonight. I missed Preacher last night and now am stuck in a hotel without DVR. Will probably check out AMC's website to see if they have it available to stream (locked behind cable login would be OK too). Edit: Turns out it was just free to stream, no log in. Should have waited until I got back home and watched like... 3 episodes in a row though. The pace has kind of picked up recently and it makes me want to watch more.

I read that Negan is being added as a character to Tekken 7... that's... unexpected. I guess I haven't been paying attention, cause I'm pretty sure I saw FFXV's Noctis there too (apparently a previous "season" pass?).

Drama continues with Disney, James Gunn, and the cast of Guardians (pretty much all of them supporting him, from what I've seen in headlines.) At this point I wonder if Disney can even reverse course and not face backlash either way? In the end Guardians 3 is going to be profitable no matter what they do. It's an MCU movie, doesn't matter what the reviews are like, it'll make their money back.

If they do get a new director, I hope they understand the importance of the soundtrack. I still think there's another reason Gunn got fired, since he started at Troma and his tweets weren't hidden so I can't imagine Disney would be surprised. Seems to be making a ton of click-bait though, so I guess there's that.

Ruby Rose, the sign languaging assassin in John Wick 2 and apparently has a role in Orange is the New Black or whatever, has been cast as Kate Kane, the Batwoman, for the Arrowverse.

Ruby Rose. I think she was only a short lived character on Orange is the New Black, early in the series. It's over now right?

I watched Death of Superman. And I feel they shouldn't have released it until Reign was ready. Not bad, and the fight is better than Superman Doomsday. But when the story has been done multiple times, there really isn't anything left to be surprising. They did a better job with the fight overall. Having him fight all the Justice League, showing him evolve and learn thru each one. Him catching up on Flash's Speed-Force time, wasn't quite as good as Superman's stare-down and in the Justice League movie, but still good. Doomsday picking up (seemingly surprising to himself) on Superman's heat vision. Superman getting clotheslined mid orbit and the re-entry.

The first half of the movie is just Lois x Clark relationship building. Including the whole:

Clark: I'm Superman!
Lois: Haha, ya right!
*Clark removes glasses*
Lois: OMG!

That part of the first half of the movie had to have been self-aware. How silly it is that glasses alone hide his identity. But it's hard to tell given the context in the movie.

I'd recommend watching both Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen together next year. You aren't actually missing anything in Death given how many times that particular story has been told. And it's kind of incomplete without the second half. Clark Kent's father is Max Tennyson. And Lex Luthor kept sounding like Stephen Colbert to me (kept hearing his character from Harvey Birdman), but it was Rainn Wilson. Who I recognize from The Office though I never actually watched it and can't imagine his normal acting voice.

According to Variety, the Black Cat Silver Sable movie Black & Silver is being split into two solo movies, and in addition Sony is looking to also make movies based on Silk and Jackpot. In other news, Italy has gone on record as saying that that's too much spaghetti to be throwing at walls.

Great name, amirite?

Ruby Rose got chased away from twitter over the weekend because, get this, they don't think she's gay enough to play lesbian vigilante Batwoman. Considering the character is being described as having "a great passion for social justice," I would have thought the fans would have waited until after the crossover to crucify her for the writers turning Batwoman from Frank Castle into Anita Sarkeesian.

The Fox cartoons all seem to be getting movies. Another Simpsons and Family Guy, along with Bob's Burgers. Also things that defy logic, the Sonic the Hedgehog Live Action Movie is picking up steam, as Adam Pally and Neal McDonough join James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Jim Carrey and Jean-Ralphio Saperstein Ben Schwartz on the movie. Jim as Robotnik, and Ben as Sonic ... which I can see, or hear at least.

Oh, and filming has officially wrapped on The Punisher: Season 2, so we should be getting that on Netflix soon. Which is fine, it was one of the higher quality shows. A couple of promos have shown up about the next season of Iron Fist as well, and ... well, they're promos designed to be interesting. Davos having a Shining Finger like Danny is intriguing.

Gotta be 100% gay. Not just Bi? Or is it that she looks too feminine and they want someone like Lea DeLaria to play her with the stereotypical look...

Live action Sonic? I'm imagining some dude in a Mr. Meseeks cosplay outfit and red shoes...

I'm all for a Bob's Burgers movie, the whole cast is great. Simpsons and Family guy... not against either. Simpsons Movie was ok, but not really theater worthy. I watch it on the Weekends on FX(X) when they play it as part of their "Every Simpsons Ever, All the Time" marathons. Definitely has some "try hard" jokes.

I kind of figure something along the lines like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, except, you know, a horribly unwatchable mess.

Hulu says The Runaways Season 2 should be out around December.
