I literally don't give a **** about whether or not the existing comic image of Stephen Strange looks exactly like his movie portrayal. Well, that's not true, I've already said I think it would be a really good idea for him to not look like Tony, regardless of whether or not he's white.

And I don't think they should be exclusively auditioning black guys, or Asian guys, or <x, y, z>.

Do I think an Asian casting would mitigate some of the disturbing aspects of Strange's backstory? Yes. Do I think it would address the whole problem? No - the whole problem is the narrative on Western imperialism, and Strange will inevitably be from the US and have no history of association with Eastern mysticism.

To be clear, though, I don't think a different racial casting would mean crap if they had a race-blind script. The character of Stephen Strange would need a cultural reason to return to Tibet for the Asian casting to mean anything (most likely scenario being learning of its existence through something to do with his legacy).

Of course, I'm sure that would drive you insane.

Honestly, though, at the end of the day the movies are going to continue to diverge from the comics more and more. That's inevitable. Better to make peace with it.

In all likelihood, Stephen Strange is gonna be a white guy with no connection to Asia who masters ancient Eastern mysticism in a few years, problematic implications intact, and you can die happy.

Not Marvel, but cape news rumor nonetheless, according to a "reliable source" to Bleeding Cool, the Wonder Woman movie is set to be in the 1920s. If true, interesting. Someone from an entirely female-centric society tossed into one that is just starting to take steps to include women.

The picture of Gal accompanying the article really doesn't change my opinion of her size in relation to the character she is to depict, though.

I was watching Teen Titans Go today (Halloween Special) and Beast Boy was dressed up as Martian Manhunter. And that got me thinking... will that character make an appearance in the DC Universe movies any time soon?

Also, they did a flashback in that episode to the Teen Titans dressed up as the Thunder Cats the previous Halloween (with Raven as Mumm-ra).

According to David Goyer, your knowing who Martian Manhunter is means you're a nerd who never gets laid.

He sounds like a wonderful person.

As for Dr. Strange, so far the casting choices of the MCU have worked for me. At this point I trust them to make a good call again.

Quote:
One of the criticisms often leveled at Goyer’s Batman and Superman movies is they’re trying not to be superhero movies in the first place. In this podcast, Goyer went on to say that the only way he could include a character like Martian Manhunter in the upcoming Justice League movie would be if they rebooted him entirely. Because “Martian Manhunter” is a ridiculous name, and the character is too “goofy” to work on the big screen.

The thing is, while Martian Manhunter’s name and backstory both sound silly, so do Batman’s. Ditto Captain America, and Spider-Man, and pretty much every other superhero in existence. Not only that, but “goofiness” rarely damages the success of a good movie, particularly if it’s a summer blockbuster.

This overt embarrassment at the original source material is one of the greatest and most problematic divisions between Marvel and DC adaptations. While David S. Goyer makes cracks about comic book fans being unbangable geeks and the Martian Manhunter being too weird to film, Marvel Studios is laughing all the way to the bank with unrepentantly weird and light-hearted movies like Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy. They also have no problem drawing in new audiences, even for relatively obscure titles that most people have never even heard of.

Looking at reactions on Twitter, it seems likely that Goyer’s public image is going the same way that Bob Orci’s did among Star Trek fans. Along with the mixed reception to Man of Steel, Goyer’s latest comments are doing little to endear him to the people who should be his fans. Goyer has made a career out of adapting superhero comics for the big screen, but this type of statement suggests that he has little respect either for the genre or for its audience—especially female fans.

This doesn’t bode well for his Justice League movie, and it will likely strike fear into the hearts of Sandman fans. Why? Well, Goyer has already signed on to write the screenplay for a Sandman adaptation, a deeply weird (and potentially “goofy”) comic that would surely be ruined by a Man of Steel-esque gritty reboot.

No Martian Manhunter in Justice League :(

Probably, or people above Goyer's pay grade could force him to incorporate the character as an appeasement for the negative comments. It's not like DC/Warner can afford to alienate their fanbase. Not that it'd necessarily be a good thing to force a director to use a character (IE: Sam Raimi and Venom in Spider-Man 3), but there are possibilities at the very least.

There's a poor quality clip going around of Captain and Stark arguing. Reinforcing the Civil War.

That scene makes another rumor I read make more sense. Keep in mind this is pure 4chan /co/ rumor here. I tend to believe them about 25% of the time on this stuff, for what it's worth. It might be a rumor, but still: Read at your own risk. The rumor is that early in the movie the Avengers begin a fight with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and at the end of the fight she hexes them all into reliving their worst nightmares and/or induces panic in everyone. Which is what sends the Hulk into a berserker's rage that starts the Hulkbuster fight, who was on the House Party type setting similar to the one used last Iron Man movie. Apparently he has all the different suits on standby. I'm guessing this is also why the trailers show a ballerina scene for Black Widow.

Will the Scarlett Witch even have these powers? Just from the trailer and Winter Soldier after credit scene I thought she will 'only' be able to shoot some kind of laserz and has telekinetic abilities.

If the comments about that clip are accurate then Stark mentions her doing something to the team members to make them fight amongst themselves, blaming her for the events. Would make what gaxe says plausible.

Something like:
Stark "We don't know what the Maximoff kid showed him".
Captain " We don't know what the Maximoff kid showed YOU."

Well, it's possible she's the product of experimenting with the staff? Then that could give her some limited mind control or something.

Obviously way less powerful than chaos magic. But thank god for that, I lose so much interest in a character when their power levels get too high, and chaos magic was WAY too powerful.

I'm not sure how this will work... doesn't seem that appealing to me. And the video didn't do anything for me either.

I liked the video. But only because I watched Attack on Titan not too long ago and could appreciate the way the opening was replicated.

I'm guessing it's going to be part of the Edge of Spider-verse storyline? They already tossed in Evangelion.

Finally caught up on AoS. The fight scene between May and the Merc was pretty awesome. Particularly for a TV-based fight scene.

Fighting sequences in general are rather good in AoS. I preferred Wards fighting style though. The way he combined finesse with brute strength. Hopefully we get more of that, even if he's a bad guy now.

Kevin Smith called Rob Liefeld a great artist. That might have been the best joke he's written in the last decade. I'm glad they're finally bringing Edwin Jarvis into the MCU, even if it's only in an eight part mini-series MCU history lesson. Maybe it'll conclude by directly linking Sharon to Peggy. Two seconds scene of Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. Not on my list of things I enjoyed, I admit. At this point it's the only way Pym is even getting into the MCU, so there it is. Guess Marvel just doesn't want to deal with his history. Yes, I'm disappointed. Douglas doesn't really strike me (lolpun) as Pym material. Not that I have any particular actor in mind at the moment either.

Now you've got a week to catch up on Flash. Smiley: grin

Speaking of the last episode, one of the first things I learned when I went to MP school was to make sure restraints were just tight enough to pinch without cutting off circulation. Specifically to prevent people from dislocating their joints and getting out. That was as bad as the "veteran cop screams like little girl while being dragged away in a balloon" from Gotham. Ridiculously unrealistic but necessary for the story.

I'm catching up on Arrow just in case they start doing some more stuff on Flash. I am watching Season 2 on Netflix (only on episode 4) and I have Season 3 recording on my DVR.

Not sure why there was not a new episode of Flash tonight... did they think they couldn't compete with Election Day?

Comic news, this is happening. Happy birthday to me.

Oh, a little movie rumornews. The director of the Dr Strange movie, Scott Derrickson, has posted an image on his twitter account that some would argue to suggest the general plot of the movie is based on the 1986 storyline "Into Shamballa" originally by J.M DeMatteis. If true, that's pretty good news since it was certainly one of the better storylines involving Earth's Sorcerer Supreme.

As a continuation, Idris Elba is indeed in Age of Ultron, but he isn't happy about it.

I'll just keep editing: Here's one that I'm sure digg will find interesting.

Another: We can totally tell how well the Fantastic Four reboot is going to do.
