Ouch? Netflix stocks get hammered as company revises its customer attrition projections.

Netflix expects the biggest change to the base of subscribers using only its mail-order DVD service; total domestic subscribers to the DVD-only plans are 27% lower than the companyâ€™s initial forecast of 3 million.

I jumped ship to the local Redbox (which is like, one whole block away). Been thoroughly disappointed with Netflix and their increasingly frustrating mismanagement.

Using Redbox is saving us a pretty penny on the physical DVDs, and Netflix's streaming service was never much of a draw. It's amazing that years after its launch, they still hadn't made a remotely useful UI for the PS3 streaming system.

Happy to vote with my dollar. I had expected the service to take off, but it looks like the wheels are starting to fall off, instead.

Netflix is rebranding its DVD service as "Qwikster" and offering video games. The streaming service will be known as Netflix.

I have no idea how this is supposed to help. Am I supposed to forget that streaming & DVDs used to be bundled if they change one of the names?

Now that I think about it, this will help hide the decreased streaming selection since you won't plug in movies and see "DVD only".

I did end up canceling my Netflix subscription this weekend. I am disappointed that I can't remove my billing information from my account though. Reading around online, I guess even if you call them they won't do it.

Their movie selection was pretty weak, and seeing as I already subscribe to Starz through my cable provider and have Starz on Demand, I don't benefit from that contract. TV Shows, I watched quite a few, but have run out of things to watch.

I do find it ridiculous that Netflix can't keep your account active for the remainder of your paid service period. I'd say the vast majority of online monthly subscription services let you cancel your subscription, yet still use the remainder of what you paid for before their service is off limits to you. Netflix had to have decided to do it this way on purpose. Probably to hope people would wait until the last moment to cancel, then forget and get charged another 8 or 9 dollars. If I actually had anything I wanted to watch on Netflix I'd be a little upset that I couldn't cancel now without losing the remainder of my paid month.

I'm actually slightly excited about the DVD service now including video games. I'll be cancelling my streaming plan once I clear it of movies and I don't watch enough TV shows to justify maintaining the subscription. I received the same e-mail and I'm still trying to figure out why Netflix even bothered to send it. Is this pathetic-sounding e-mail supposed to appeal to my emotions and convince me that a new name really does justify higher costs?

Nothing that will change my mind about my actions, but some minor good news for Netflix:

The only drawback to the deal is that Netflix will be unable to stream content from Dreamworks until 2013. However, Dreamworks is planning 3 new movies releases that year which Netflix will undoubtedly get.

The deal is very appealing for Dreamworks because under their contract with HBO they were unable to sell digital downloads to other providers. Now under the Netflix contract they will still be able to sell those digital downloads while providing streaming content to Netflix. So the deal with Netflix is relatively â€œsugar coatedâ€ and will allow Dreamworks to keep profiting off their content.

According to Gigaom, Netflix doesnâ€™t actually like to do exclusive deals it only does them when it has to compete with providers like HBO.

This deal could not have come at a better time as Netflix loses its deal with Starz, Netflix stock falls, and Netflix splits its streaming service and DVD service into separate parts.

Well, I don't have cable, and my free time is limited. The portion of that I'm willing to spend on television is even smaller (most of it goes to friends, games and reading).

So, a streaming service is really ideal for me. Until Netflix has a competitor, I'll probably be sticking with them. Since I only generally watch television (with some exceptions) when I feel like being mindless, their less-than-stellar line-up doesn't really bother me. :P

I just pirate my anime (even if NF has the series I want, they almost never have the language I want).

The only things I watch without the intention of doing so mindlessly are documentaries (which NF has a decent selection of) and HBO series, which I just pirate out of desperation (which I don't feel bad about, since I'd be using my parents' cable streaming service to view it, if I could get it to work properly on my pc).

And I've never subscribed to their disc service. Though I'll admit, there are some things on NF that aren't streaming that have been tempting me. Fortunately, all their price/service shenanigans started right around the time I would have seriously considered it. :P

I changed my plan from 3 DVD and streaming to 1 DVD and streaming. I wish it was cheaper but then again, I'm paying for EQ2 about 15 dollars a month, so why not Netflix? Those are the only two things in the house that are "me time". I don't watch regular TV and my house is filled with stuff for my son except the tiny corner for my PC.

The streaming has improved over the last 2 weeks, I must say. At least for me. I watch a lot of foreign movies on Netflix and I'm seeing more and more appearing on the stream.

I truly wanted to cancel the mail DVD section but I can't find a rental store here?? What the hell happened to all the Blockbusters? Family Videos? Hollywood Video?? Nothing is here... I can't find anything but a Redbox and I don't have a credit or debit card... Infact, I don't have a bank account so I can't use it.

Hollywood is long dead, killed by Blockbuster and Netflix. Blockbuster is dead with its name and licensing agreements bought up by DirecTv (or Dish? One of them...) but its physical locations closed.

The local Family Video, on the other hand, has a message on its marquee saying that they're opening 60 -- yes, six-zero -- new locations and people should apply for management positions. I've no idea if that's statewide or regionally or nationally or what.
