Orson Scott Card - EmpireFollow

This is one book, that one must have an open mind to read. Card is trying to make a point about the current divisions between the Right and Left in America and comes across as preaching more then taking the time with crafting a strong story. Then he also claims to have rush the book in the end to meet the deadline TOR gave him. The book ends with a rant about how anyone who tries to seek a middle ground is demonize by both sides of the extreme left and right.

While hoping that the reader come away seeing that the attacks on both side are a threat to our Current system of Constitutional government, Card takes the worst of the current political climate in the US and leaves the middle ground he trying to defend out of the story. Though he tries to give a balance between the left and right, reviewers from both sides found much to blam blast the novel.

While nowhere as great as the Ender books, I didn't put the book down last night until I couldn't keep my eyes open. I disagree with parts and found the ending too predictable mid way though, but still found myself enjoying the book for the way he asked serious questions about human nature and conflict. I'm going to have to look into the game Empire, that he created the story for, just to see how they try to balance the game play.

doesnt appeal to me either. card is a gifted writer, but its very hard especially in politics to transcend your own belief and try to accurately potray all sides. Especially middle of the road types.
