Been covered a couple times, the series starts out well, I enjoyed it. It eventually becomes stretched out and predictable with to much Deus ex machina to get out of already silly situations. Eventually in the last couple books it becomes poorly guised and even more poorly and rudimentarily thought out political propaganda against everything from Communism to Pacifism.

With the last couple of book in sword of truth its the same thing rehashed over and over. He suffers from the unexplicable need to re-explain everything as the series goes on as if the reader had not read the preceding books or was incapable of memorizing it.

Plus the story suffers from the same fate as WoT in that he is dragging it out and dragging it out, hell the one book only featured the main characters for perhaps a total of 50-100 pages of its entire 700 pages.

Then there is always some insurmountable odds that Richard has to over come that keeps getting more dire and more dire and then it usually boils down to a solution as ludicrous as batman pulling his Bat~tastic anti shark spray from his nifty bat belt in order to get rid of the shark that is about to attack him. It was okay in the beginning but as it goes on it becomes more absurd and grasping at straws.

I think that the poorly hidden politics and the repetition both of exposition and theme kills the series. That and it becomes nothing more than a soap opera just in a fantasy setting.

I agree, Im all for a trilogy but these days anything longer than a trilogy just isnt worth my time. Unless the whole series is out already.

I loved this book. I wasn't expecting it to be good when I started it, glad I decided to give it a go.
I still think about this story from time to time, I should go read it again. ^^

The Sword of Truth is the first book in this series (I have no idea when it will end)

I kind of lost interest after the whole "Richards a love slave building a statue" thing. I enjoyed the first few books, the first one especially.

I don't know but it almost just kind of drones on now...I couldn't put the first few down, they had rich plots but the current book is just too...I dont want to say wordy but it seems to have an agenda all its own.

PIck up the book, read it for yourself. The softcover shouldnt be more than 6 or 8 dollars. Most libraries also carry the series.

Yeah i think in the last two books the author is trying to make stuff up using the same ideas in the first books. The whole additive and negative magic thing was all right. Then came the people who can control other magic users. But then it started getting sad with the whole book where he starts building that stupid state. There are socerers who are 'flip-side' from others so their magic does not hurt eachother. And then all of a sudden, oh! there are people who are black holes for magic making it null and void. He always attempts to trump the main characters strengths with something that makes Richard ineffective. But lo and behold Richard ends up finding a way. <yawn>

First book was OK. After that the books had me hooked. But the last 2 books have dissapointed me greatly. I actually put one of em down halfway thru and didn't get back to it for over a year. Usually if that happens it goes into the graveyard (bookcase) and never comes out.


I was out of new books and needed something to read >.>

Even though the series got to be the same ole thing over and over, I kept reading through Chainfire but haven't picked up Phantom yet. I had to move on.
