KAAAAOOOO (AKA, a Build Thread)Follow

I really, really like the look of the Fractal case...

Right now, depending on my CPU/GPU choices, I'm looking at anywhere from $640 to $820.

I'm probably going to fight my inner-optimizer and head back down to the lower end of that budget range. There's always a case for why spending $40 more is a good idea. So while having a 770 and a quad core are appealing, I don't really think I need them. I mean, I'm not going to be playing BF4 on ultra settings...

I think I'm going to behave and go for the i3 and the 670...

Why is that?

I don't have a ton of case advice except to pick a mid-sized or better. Trying to build a system in a small case was annoying as hell plus there's zero cable management opportunities in the thing. My mid-sized case is much more pleasant to work in.

Of course, read the buyer reviews and see what they have to say about airflow and work room. And I suppose cable management is less of a worry without a side window although a kraken of wires can still ***** with your airflow.

Working a few miles from a Newegg warehouse has its perks. My order is already ready for pick-up.

Then I just need the prime order to come in. Same-day delivery isn't terribly uncommon with Amazon in NJ, so it's possible I could have all my parts today for orders yesterday, and no shipping costs.

NJ may not have many perks, but shipping is one that is generally in our favor.

In theory that's covered. Grabbed it from software swap subreddit. If it doesn't work, I can get win 8 for cheap from work.

Benefits of a windowless case

I have a non-modular PSU, and man did they want to make sure there were enough connections for everything you could possibly want, and then probably double that amount. I can't even hide them behind the mobo.

As long as everything except the 20 pin is modular you're set. The 20 pin is kind of required.

Since this is a build thread, below is the list I'm ordering today or tomorrow (as soon as my stupid client pays up, he's 3 weeks late already). The only thing I'm still debating is getting the regular PSU vs the exact same one but modular for €8.01 ($11.11) more.

The case has room behind the motherboard for cables and stuff so it's not like spare cables are going to get in the way much or anything. Also upgrade plans for the machine are a second 770 and another set of ram later on this year as well as some soundcard/external amplifier stuff to turn it into a stereo.

The choice was made for me because the modular one was at 10+ days delivery time.

You can make your other one "modular" with a good pair of pruning shears (going the other way might be trickier)

Looks good. Only two things I'd mention is that the Case comes with fans in it, and the CPU comes with an adequate CPU cooler so you may not need those components. Good choice on the SSD and the rest of it.

You definitly wanted the modular power supply though.
