OK, so I just put together a new PC and installed Windows 7 Home Premium. All my drivers are up to date and whatnot. The issue I'm getting is a somewhat frequent connection drop. I'm hardwired through CAT-5 to the router so it's not a wireless issue.
The drop does not disconnect me from WoW or Vent if I have them open, but I am unable to connect to websites or open new connections. If I log out of WoW/Vent, I am unable to reconnect. My solution is to disable/re-enable my network adapter in Device Manager. I've been Googling for solutions, and I haven't found anything really. Usually I'm really good with search terms, but perhaps not this time.
I disabled allowing the computer to turn the card off to save power option, and disabled IPv6 (was a suggestion on a site) to no avail. I've uninstalled/deleted the driver for the network adapter and reinstalled it.
I'm getting these connection losses maybe once in a 2-hour period, while actively using the computer.

Not sure on router model (posting from work), updated its firmware though.

Disabled Norton, use Spybot-S&D and AdAware, as well as FF w/ NoScript/AdBlock
Vista machine on network, no issues. Previously had a Win2k and WinXP system on network, no issues.
I think it pops up as a DNS error. I'll post the exact error when it happens again, as well as try to connect to Google directly through its IP address. No web sites are loading, nor can I start a new connection (WoW, Vent, Skype, uTorrent), but existing connections stay open.

When this happens you can't connect to anything, or just specific sites? Also, are you Googling sites, or trying to access them from bookmarks?
Go into the router and write down the DNS server address. (Might want to call and verify this with your ISP)
Next time you're having issues, go to the Vista box and try accessing something, just to make sure this is localized to the one machine and not the network.
Next time it isn't working, go into the start menu, type CMD into the search bar and hit enter. From the command prompt, type: [ipconfig /all] without the brackets and make sure the IP address for the DNS is listed as your router's internal IP address (Probably 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depending on your router. 10.0.0.1 might also be listed).

How old is your router? I had this happen once and it was a failing router--granted, I run several Wi-Fi's and wired connections on it. Was using DHCP at the router--power cycling the router would resolve it for a while, then connections would tank again. Switched to static IP's, and it would go a few days before connections would drop and I'd need to power cycle. Got a new router and problems went away.
Could also be your modem crapping out too. I had to go through 3 modem swaps a few months back because my cable conx just wouldn't stay up for more then 5-10 minutes at a time. Could try bypassing your router for an evening to rule that out as the culprit--if it keeps up, at least you've cut it down to something on the machine or your modem/ISP.

download and install the free program Wireshark. Run it, target it at your network port, and then turn on logging. When the connection drops, you should see some errors at the same time in the log. Looking up those error messages, or PMing them to me if you want, should tell you if it is on your computers end, or on the router or external end.
Also disable UPnP if you haven't already in the router.
