video card issueFollow

Hello, recently my video card has been making a low hum/slight grinding noise but only when the fan speed is on low and the card is idle as soon as the fan speeds up and the card becomes under load the noise completely goes away. what could be causing this? if the fan was dying wouldn't i hear the hum and grinding noise even while the card was under load? im using the pny geforce 465 gtx which i bought only 6 months ago

should i get a new card? and would a constant fan speed be better then automatic fan control?

Take a can of air to your video card. See if it is just dust, if not then its probably one of the bearings in the video card itself, then you might want to look for a replacement but, I would honestly go with Kao and say its dust. 6 months in a case is enough time to build up a pretty dusty fan.

I'd give cleaning a try first like Kao said see if that fixes the problem. If the bearing is going out you could try installing a new cooler. One I found that matches your card is this:

also if i have to get a new card my choices are sli 550s a single 560 or maybe single 570 which would be the best choice?

Scroll down and you'll see the back side of your card. There are several screws holding the cover and heat sink on the the pcb. Once you remove those the cover and heat sink will come off.

Here's the cooler on Zalman's site, you'll see a 2 buttons there, one will show you how to install and the second one will let you download the manual. You can look at the manual and see if you want to try installing a new cooler.

As for the other 500 series cards you asked about I can't give you an answer because I haven't kept up with the new cards out on the market today.

Probably, I can't really make out what it is from the picture. I use an ATI HD 5750 with a Zalman VF1000 installed.
