Sounds interesting. I had a LS in FFXI with familiar rules and it was a very efficient one. I got some questions though:

1) What kind of events the ls is doing as of today? Any Sp grinding or its just a random thing from members?

2) Loot. Do you favor filling a player with a full set of gear even if he/she doesnt have enough "points" for a final piece? or Do you give the item to the player who has more points/dedication/attendance but has only 1 or 2 pieces of that set?

We are readying ourselves for NM hunting, our first Rainbow Basilisk kill:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v252/Smiley7890/ffxivgame2010-11-2321-43-05-18.jpg

Yeah yeah, we all died, but so did it ^.^
(If I am recalling correctly, they are the hardest monster in FFXIV atm)

We killed an ogre as well, but it was much easier.

Everyone right now is just ranking up as much as we can so that when content hits, we are ready to hit it hard.

As for loot, there are no "points" we award loot based on whoever deserves it the most.

If you have 4/5 of a gear set and think you are going to "slide" into the last piece you need if you aren't helping everyone else get what they need, you are mistaken. If you want that last piece of your set, you better be helping out. Everyone is treated equally, officers included.

Up to 19 active rank 50s,

Still have spots for crafters as tankue said, and dedicated gatherers.

Many benefits come with a shell this dedicated, I employ people to give it a serious thought if you are high rank.

I think a lot of people believe we have crazy requirements, like 10 hours a day playtime or something, but that is not the case...

If you are over rank 40, and plan on playing this game long term, let me know.

Sucks to join a linkshell that you have no idea if its going to survive or not..

DoW has been around a long time and is not going anywhere.

If you would rather see your talents go toward something worthwhile, shoot me a tell or app on the site.

I'm pretty sure that the opinion of an outsider who made an account just to post this is not important - at all -, but I feel like writing it anyways. In the end, your LS, your rules. And if there's any rule or requirement that I and many other players really consider "crazy", is the "drop all linkshells" one. It's the only rule that actually prevents me from applying for your linkshell at all. And I bet that I'm not the only "somewhat high leveled and dedicated" player that don't like that part.

I understand you want commitment to DoW and want to create a strong core group, but simply forcing people to drop all their shells feels more like you want to try to reduce outside contacts to a minimum and well locked in the realm of tells (lol). Also known as the "Your only friends are us." rule. I am pretty sure that it's not the case and I'm not saying that "Hurr Durr, you don't talk to nor have any friends outside of DoW, Hurr Durr", but it surely feels like an useless restriction and for someone looking from outside, it DOES feel that you just want to lock players inside of the DoW bubble.

I just don't see any gains from preventing players to keep social shells or "country / language" specific shells to keep a decent contact with their GROUP of friends (and not just individual tells).

Is that just because you don't want him to do leves with some other group every once in a while or give that COOLZ SWORDZ +2 that he happened to craft to someone who isn't in DoW? Because this is the only practical reasons I can imagine.

I don't want to criticize you guys or nothing, neither I am saying that you are wrong, or that you are all mean and unfriendly people (I know it's not the case, by the way). Actually, you aren't even the only linkshell who does that. Just wanted to comment what most people actually think that it's the "crazy" requirements for your linkshell, and some others who have that same rule.

I understand what you are getting at, but it is (for now) the best way to keep everyone new and old 100% committed. I know the chat system is complete ****, and is more frustrating than functional.

Sorry that you find the policy a deterrent :-\

Perhaps some of this will lighten up when companies are implemented, rather than us having to use the "social" aspect of LS' as a means to keep organized.

PS: Only Carl is mean.

The commitment we are looking for, by dropping other shells, is what has put us in the good position we are in imo.

Without the distractions of other shells, helping each other at no cost, and working exclusively together, we have grown much stronger as a group than we would have otherwise.

The rule is put in place because far too often people come, get what they want, and leave. The 1 LS rule really helps with that, believe it or not. Because everything in our LS is given at no cost, protecting some of that hard work is important to a lot of us.

Being a very tight knit, strong group of players with only 1 shell does not mean we have no friends outside the shell either XD. Many of us came from other places and still keep in contact with them.

Daeva of War also tends to help other LS's when we can. As a group, we have gone to SnowCrash leve runs, have invited members of theirs to our NM runs, and other such things with other shells.

So in short, DoW is not an "island" linkshell separated from all others, I am just trying to keep commitment, gauge trustworthiness of members, and keep players interested with nightly things to do. If they all had other shells, attendance for our events would trail off for one reason or another and in the end, we would be just like every other shell. I enjoy being a bit different, and I like that the people we have are very dedicated. They know they have a linkshell to log into every night that will have the same players on, that they know and trust.

It's a loyalty thing. Simply put, in most MMO's, the flag you fly is hard coded. That's the way it should be. If you join a guild/ls, it's kind of your responsibility to stick to them. If you play with people, you should be proud of the team you are a part of, not just ditch it after you get what you want, like some Friday night bar pick up.

If you join a guild/ls, you do your part, and don't spit on their name. It's as simple as that. There shouldn't be any question to a rule like that. If you have friends outside of said crew, talk to them in tells.

Any serious LS is going to have that rule.

If you think it's such a hard thing to do, or it's an unreasonable rule to follow, stick to something more aligned with your opinion, but also consider the other side of the fence.... It also looks unreasonable of you to keep a grip on assorted pearls that will eventually end up being useless....

I like to think I was in a serious shell in xi, and it didn't. More common were other serious shells which would certainly not allow you to be in another ls that actually did stuff, but wouldn't care if you wanted a convenient way to talk to some friends who had helped you get your AF, or who you had brought to the game with you, or whatever. And then, yes, there were shells that did it your way too.

Anyways, this is why I never applied to your ls here despite your being clearly the most accomplished one around that I'm aware of. I Came to the game with a friend of six years or so from xi who made herself a little chat ls, and I think it would be ridiculous to abandon people I know well to get in a shell that does well (in fact, caring that much more about virtual goods and firsts than people would make me a bad person imo, and would be a good reason to reject my application).

The basic fact of the matter (imo) is that the difference between doing things great and doing things well in these games is pretty small, beyond the satisfaction of getting it done in style. The events here aren't /that/ intricate, and most decent groups of people will eventually figure out how things get done. You've all done the best, as far as firsts and such go. But the rest of us will catch up.

Don't get me wrong. The satisfaction of doing things with style is great and worth having. It's pretty much the number one source of enjoyment in the game. But still. Somethings matter more.

My first post, yay. Not meaning to be overcritical - your ls sounds great in about every other way. I just wanted to say something since the topic came up, and I'd thought about this in the past.
