So far, so good.

After like... Chapter 2, the frequency of the Imperial troop drops on your head while exploring can be very annoying. Kind of wish those would reduce. But they are easily avoidable, and your teammates warn you in advance. (Still annoying when they drop on top of you during a big quest fight).

Fights can get very hectic very fast. What starts as a single fight with a big enemy, ends up with two or three groups joining in. But magic is actually very powerful (though quite limited). A single -aga spell can eliminate a whole group of enemies in one shot if aimed right. Can also damage your own teammates if not careful. But I still get a chuckle when some Imperial troops drop from the sky, only to die nearly instantly as I target them with a Blizzaga attack.

The scenery is great. I actually look forward to road trips. You can get perks that let you earn small amounts of AP for long trips. So you get to enjoy the games scenery, listen to some character moments between your teammates, have Prompto randomly stop the trip because he thinks one spot looks great and would make for some good pictures (usually do) and still progress your characters a small bit while doing so. No one apparently wears seat belts, and if you slam on the brakes while cruising along, everyone slams forward violently and your character apologizes for it. Though during the times when a character is standing up in car or sitting on the back of the convertible (ya, they do that) they don't go flying out of the car. Smiley: frown

Lots of stuff available to do in the game. Helping Cindy improve your car, working with a group of hunters to find their members (This seems to be the main side quest line designed to get you to relatively remote areas outside the main quest path). Exploring different towns, buying up all the sound tracks to pretty much every FF game in the past so you can listen to it on your car stereo and also on your portable player. Also, one teammate is obsessed with Chocobos:

I'm waiting for the moment when we are driving down the road and Gladiolus throws Prompto out of the car as we are driving over a big gorge.

Like a handful of FF games in the past, story line missions and such do not seem to scale with your level. So when I reached the end of Chapter 1 and was at level 10-12 or so, the enemies in the story mission were all level 3-4. So they were relatively simple.

At level 15-20, I have tried my hand at fighting the level 30 big-baddies that spawn at night. They are doable, and if you are good at using the dodge/parry setup, likely very easy. The reward for the fight is minimal though, you are better off spending your efforts somewhere else to increase level or explore.

Overall, with about 29 hours of playtime under my belt, I think I'd put it about an 8/10. It's a solid game. Definitely not what many people would want from a Final Fantasy game though. But still a good game. I have not used the "Wait Mode" yet. Which apparently pauses battle when you stop moving (and has some sort of rechargeable time gauge) and allows you to make more strategic choices. There is a whole perk tree for the Wait Mode to improve thing and various bonuses when using it. With the movie, and mini series, prequels to the game, they have done a good job building up the world and story.

Now to just finish my Master Electrician code update exams and catch up on my TV shows. Then I can get back to playing more.

See, it's things like that I would enjoy, and then Prompto's name shows up again and all I can picture is Penicillin driving around, suddenly stopping to fight a giant ostrich, when out of the trunk a filthy drunk Bozo The Clown with a wet hacking cough climbs out and starts swinging a mallet haphazardly while telling horrible jokes.

So I gave in and bought the game this morning and it's downloading while I'm at work.

Nothing else to report. From Baltimore, MD this has been "A Waste of Your Time".

I bought the game a few days ago. I'm really loving the combat system for the most part. It's a lot better when it's 1 vs 1 battles which usually don't happen unless you're sparring, otherwise it gets a bit too chaotic especially when there are a lot of enemies-- although, I feel as I play more I am getting used to it and perhaps "getting good." It's basically a Kingdom Hearts game without Disney characters in it-- and everything made to look as photo-realistic as possible as opposed to giving the main characters giant clown feet.

I was honestly expecting it to be a lot more like FF13, which I hated. It is not. Prompto is the only annoying character and even he's kind of alright. I think it's really cool how it's a Final Fantasy game but most of the locations feel like they could exist in real life. --like every night my party sleeps in a trailer at a gas station and sits in plastic chairs and drinks beer out of red solo cups. That's just really cool for some reason.

I'm looking forward heavily to the remake of FF7 now given it appears to be setup under the same "engine" kind of. I was worried before that it was going to suck but after playing XV I'm feeling a lot more confident about it.

Another perfect video from Dunkey:

Anyone still interested in the Vudu copy of Kingsglaive? Sitting on an extra code for that.

Assuming anyone who wanted to see the movie has already, due to the wonders of the interwebs and all that. Guess it'd just be for people who want to have a big Vudu library.

Also, if you haven't, you really should watch Kingsglaive and Brotherhood prior to the game.

Well now I'm irritated, cause FFXV is $35 today due to an Amazon Gold Box deal. Guess I'll get a physical copy as well since I bought the digital version.

Does anyone know if this story takes place in Migard? Asking due to the "Meteor" impact crater and Diamond Weapon showing up in the cutscene.

I am thinking No, but am only in Chapter 6.

The meteor drop is a similarity, but I don't think it's the same one.

Spoiler within Spoiler (Kingsglaive).

The "Diamond" weapon is (weapons are) shown a bit more in Kingsglaive. The Empire has an army of them. They appear to be captured Daemons either enslaved or modified by the Empire to serve as their weapons. They lay waste to the Kingsglaive within the first 15-20 minutes of the movie. Things are going pretty well until the Empire just calls in these "Weapons" (Daemons), and they airdrop them into the battle where they proceed to annihilate everything in their path. During the first encounter, the Empire stops short of actually destroying the Kingsglaive, and pulls out. But later after the Crystal is captured and the Wall disappears they drop the Weapons on the city, where Lucius summons the "Old Wall" (Animated statues of the Old Kings, presumably inhabited by the spirits of the Old Kings) which proceed to go Toe-to-Toe with the numerous Weapons. Some pretty cool fight scenes there.

So I don't think they are related to FFVII, other than inspiration for the design and story elements.

The 1.03 update seems to have added some quality of life type fixes

If you have the Stamina Bar turned on, it will disappear if it is full (Used to stay always).
Ending a battle with a summon does give EXP. I summoned Ramuh and ended up getting about 4k exp. It was a large fight with a group of monsters and an Imperial drop ship on me. Pretty sure that previously Summons made all exp zero.
You can also now open the main menu while driving. Previously you could only use the Car Shop.

Haven't played much this past week cause of work and using the downtime in the show series to empty out my DVR (completely empty now).

Lots of time to play FFXV over the next 9 days though.

Got this song stuck in my head. And have pretty much set it to permanent repeat on my road trips in game.

I am nearing the end of the game (going back to do all the side stuff I have yet to finish and get my 13 weapons). And I'm embarassed to say, but I only just now realized I can use items to greatly enhance the effects of my crafted weapons. I can create a spell that when cast can cast the same spell five times in a row.

I find it neat that magic really affects the environment. I can cast Blizzaga in a swamp and freeze the water. Trapping enemies (and myself) in the ice, unable to move. My characters actually sit there trying to pull their legs out of the ice (Unsuccessfully).

But a single cast of 5x cast level III magic makes short work most of these annoying Imperial troop drops.

Any irritation of paying full price has been soothed with the Ramuh summon cutscene, it is money well spent. I've also just found the Cup O'Noodles sponsored quest that doesn't seem forced and commercial-ly at all. Smiley: um

Glady loves cup noodles. I activated the second part of the quest but haven't done it yet. I have to go back to a previous save (about an hour) because I missed something in a quest I was doing, and it was a quest that I couldn't back out of (forced me to complete it to continue).

Very few real missables in this game. There are some dialogs that can be missed, but they mean little. But this quest near the end of the game had a one time reward you need to do a lot of side quests to get the most out of. Wouldn't feel right if I didn't get max in it.

There are multiple custom animations for summoning. Smiley: yikes I just summoned Ramuh while I was in the bottom of Costlemark Tower, and it showed him throwing his staff through the tower to penetrate the floor I was on to kill the mini-boss.

I've summoned Titan a few times. Pretty sure he only appears if you are in an open area. No option for him being summoned if you are inside somewhere.

I've done Ramuh a handful of times.

I've reached another summon, but haven't done it yet.

I haven't done the level 45+ dungeons. I went back to do some side quests at level 46, Saved up some 75k EXP over about 7 days. Then I stayed in a hotel. Only the 2x exp one. But gained 8 levels all at once. Then I went to the sewers, but it had some nasties in there at level 45 that took me too long to kill so I just moved on. They were all strong to my current weapons, so I think I have to go get a new set, or get that Holy weapon set from the Hunters. I think it said they do good damage vs Daemons.

Can't wait til I can get all 13 weapons and just steam roll everything.

Not really looking forward to farming up the AP for some of these final nodes. Like 333,555, I think there is also a 999 one if I remember right.

Costlemark Tower is a death trap, it's full of "multiply on explosion" Thunder Bombs and each time you take the wrong path to the inner boss you have to fight armies of high level Flans, Goblins, Red Giants, and a Naga that can use Toad, Petrify, and Confusion at random.

I would wait to do the sewers until you get the Regalia part quest, as the part is near the entrance to the inner boss. Also the Royal Arms drain major HP from you each hit, so try not to depend on them.

Ya... I'm at about 68 hours now with 8 of the Arms. I don't use the weapons, I just want them for Armiger. I guess I only assumed it got stronger as I got more weapons. Chapter 10 spoilers: I know when Luna unlocked all the weapons for me during the Leviathan battle, it was pretty bad ***.

I explore a bit into Castlemark. Mostly been finishing up all my other side quests. And now I'm gambling at the Altissa Arena. It's easy, but only being able to wager 9,999 medals means even with 5-8x odds, takes a while to get that 3.6 million for the Fuel-free car upgrade.

Not looking forward to farming all the rewards out of Justice Monsters.

The fuel free upgrade isn't worth it IMO, with the two 6k upgrades from Power Plant city (Lestrailia or something) you can get to your destination without the gauge going below 3/4 full. Unless there is a larger world map than the first one, it's not needed.

You should aim for the fishing reel and maybe the Turbocharger upgrade.

Ya, all the low cost prizes I've already picked up. It's pretty easy to get 25-50k per match. Just once you get prizes over a few hundred K it takes a while. I was more interested in just finishing all car upgrades, but also the accessory that replaces it once you purchase it.

The miniboss at the half way point of the sewers was harder than the final boss. If only because of the damned AoE frog skill. I'll have to find some Ribbons or other accessories to shield against that in the future. Once I got a different set of weapons, the sewers were a cake walk.

Going through and finishing my fishing side quests now. Beyond the 50+ dungeons and some hunts I'm pretty sure that is all that is left for me on Lucis. Pretty sure I've completed all hunts and quests in Altissa (there didn't see to be many). Doing hunts in Altissa made me feel like I was playing the opening bit of Kingdom Hearts 2, running around town investigating paranormal activity.

Level 65/66, and Costlemark was just too much... Those damned Thunder Bombs. Too many things on the screen at once, can't target the main ones consistently. A dozen little ones all blowing up in my face. Maybe I need to get a thunder resist accessory. But so far the only one I randomly picked up was an Ice Crest.

Just going to move on in the story and come back to these later. Don't want to deal with it now. I made it to almost the bottom of the Costlemark, but stepped on a teleport pad that sent me back to the exit. "Fuck that" and reloaded a save file from before I entered. Going to go back to Chapter 10 and finish this thing. At least that being storyline stuff will be a cake walk.

Edit:

Pretty sure I'm right at the end now. 12/13 weapons collected. Have the option to go back so I'm probably going to attempt Costlemark again to get the last one. Will probably have to set it down for a little while though, since I've been playing non stop these past couple days. Might finish my fishing side quests and max my character skills. They are all very close. Only about 1 more level each.

I crashed my ride up pretty good, going 70mph into a T, crashing up over the guard rail. No one got hurt, even though none of them wear seat belts... And it only cost me 500 gil to have Cindy repair it all.

I broke down and bought this when it was on sale. I'm having trouble getting into it, and I know exactly the reason why. The leveling system just begs to be abused. Once I had access to the double EXP hotel, I just completely stopped camping for the night. I had about 45k EXP stored away when I made my first jump from 18 to 32. I was working on a second pile when I made the mistake of doing a story mission and got put up for the night at a 1.5X EXP hotel in the first town.

Now, since I don't want to waste EXP by not staying at the best place I can (I know about the 3X EXP place, but I don't have access to it yet) that I refuse to touch the story line until I've ground out every single mission and hunt I can manage. Because of that the story (not that it's been very interesting so far anyway) has taken a back seat to the rest of the game, and I think that's why I have a hard time caring.

Oh, and if Iggy stops me one more goddamn time when I want to drive the car at night I think I'm going to scream. I've been killing those stupid demons since I was level 12, I don't need reminded about them every time I want to go somewhere.

EXP is like water though. You don't need to waste your time trying to find the most valuable hotel to stay at. You'll be more than powerful enough just using the camp or cheap trailers. It's not really "begging to be abused" (cause it's not really abuse) as much as it is a trap for the OCD and Min/Max type people ("I can't sleep here, I'll waste my EXP!"). But it's not needed, so don't fall for it. Don't force yourself to play ways that make the game unenjoyable, specially when it's not something you have to do. (Like Costlemark Smiley: mad)

A side note, Iggy stops asking around like... Chapter 6 or so. Something happens and you'll be told. The only thing you'll have to worry about then is Prompto always asking you who you want hit to take pictures of. And unfortunately telling him to shove it isn't an option.

Picture spoilers: Carbuncle shows up occasionally in the pictures. No achievement for it though. I was looking through some of the pictures and one was near a lighthouse, and a little Carbuncle was floating in the background. There is an achievement for a "photobomb" by one of the other characters in the game. Was interesting getting that one, wasn't expecting it.

I didn't bother with most of the side quests and hunts until chapter 9. I still haven't done many hunts. Only rank 4. I've done enough for a few side quests that required hunt target monsters. But I haven't done many at all.

Go on the PSN Store and get the Holiday pack for the game. There is an accessory that prevents you from leveling up when you rest, just remember to unequip it after you rest in order to put a better one back on.

Edit: Apparently there are two Holiday Packs, the one linked above and the Free one here.

Ya, forgot about the NIxperience accessory. I never worried about it, so I never tried using it. Does it actually just stop you from leveling up your exp at night, or does it stop you from gaining exp during fights and quests, so you actually have nothing to level up on when camping?

The packs have some other nice, kind of situational, accessories too. I usually run around with the Time and Offense A+ AP Boost. I don't get Finesse at an A+ consistent enough to make it worth equipping.
