Am I the only one that seems this button layout as horrible? Look how far the thumb has to stretch to reach the left analog and the four buttons.

When I hold my 360 and PS3/4 Controller, my arm, wrist, and thumbs are in a straight line. My thumb lines up relatively nicely with the ball of the thumb sitting comfortably between all the buttons. Giving access to all 4 buttons with basically a rocking motion around the thumb knuckle. The analog being moved with the tip of the thumb.

It seems like the thing is focusing less on being a replacement for existing controllerst, and more on being a KB+M replacement option.

You'd be wiser to spend your money on a 360 controller or maybe one of the Logitech Dual Shock copies with Xinput support, if you are actually looking for a controller to use with your computer games.

I'll let you know how the controller and Steam Link are when I get them in October.

Yeah, it's a solution in need of a problem.

For console gamers, you're spending more than a console on an underpowered (and overpriced) PC with a limited Linux game catalog.
For PC gamers, just hook your PC up to the TV or use the streaming gizmo (Steam Link) they're selling for $50.

What the Steam Box was supposed to do and yet it absolutely fails at, is competing in the console "Just hook it up to the living room TV and start playing" space.

Also, the fact that Steam is selling these through Gamestop and their product pages on Steam go through Gamestop means that Steam is now charging sales tax in Illinois.

I think the steam box is meant to replace the laptop in this equation. You'd just set it up on your TV and have it run whatever you are playing off of your gaming rig, but with the controller as an input device.

It's not a computer, it's just a connectivity device.
