GMG has a blog post up today apologizing for the previous check-out issues. Several US banks thought "Green Man Gaming" was a gambling site and were blocking attempts to charge through them. They were also having issues with some overzealous fraud prevention measures that were blocking legitimate customers. They're revising their measures and communicating with the banks and will be releasing more 20% off multiple-use vouchers once its all resolved.

Has anyone played Cities XL 2011? I hate to waste $4.98. Smiley: tongue

Seriously, has anyone played it? I loved the Sim City games but they lost something as time went on, and then they lost me. I'll probably just buy it when I get home, I don't see a timer running so I'm assuming it's good through the end of the day.

The sale is good through the 6th.

I bought it when the 20% vouchers were still active and I had trade-in credit so I only spent 99¢ for it. I haven't played it yet though. From what little I read, 2012 changed little from it so I didn't bother posting that sale as its significantly more expensive.

"Professional" reviews on Metacritic range from positive to mixed but most of the criticisms are things that don't worry/affect me such as lack of multiplayer (which I don't want) or not adding enough from the 2009 version (which I don't own). The biggest general criticism seems to be not adding enough new to the genre but since I haven't played a city builder since SimCity 2000, I'm sure something new is in there if only a prettier city once I'm done Smiley: grin

Just pass. I have not played them myself, but from what ive read they are just really bad. Theres supposedly a new sim city coming out soon so maybe take that 4.98 and invest half of it in low risk mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Asadulah who works in securities...

point is you'd have enough to buy the new sim city when it's released.

I seem to recall hearing good things about the Baldur's Gate games; something like them being the forefathers of all good RPGs or somesuch? Is it worth the $18 for those two and several games I have no particular desire to try?

Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights are both great series if you havent played either. That might make it worth 18. Baldurs Gate is too old to be worth 18 alone.

Pfftt.. that'd be five times the cost.

Folks talk up Planescape: Torment as well but I never played. But I'm not dropping $20 on the pack anyway.

Excluding ToEE, which had several major bugs and was a completely different game from the rest, NWN 2 is the worst in that collection. If you enjoy Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, you'll enjoy Icewind Dale 1 & 2. Torment was pretty good, and NWN strikes everyone differently. Some like the pull away from the Torment, BG, and IWD styles, others don't.

If you do play BG and IWD, you'll immediately know where Dragon Age came from. The play styles are pretty much identical.

Torment, is by far the best game in that bundle.

Apparently all weekend? I see that's just today's deal on a special weekend, nvm. And Dawnguard was released for the PC (And I assume all non-Xbox platforms, Microsoft's hostage situation has been resolved)

Dawnguard was just released at 1 PM today for Steam, and from what I read of the reviews even $10 is too much for it.

Most reviews give it 8+ out of 10 from what I've seen. Forums are full of people demanding a 5 dollar DLC though, entitlement and all that.

I won't be downloading it right now, because I haven't touched Skyrim in quite some time (150+ hours in the first few weeks, then took a break). Buying it now it would sit unplayed until much later, so I'll just wait til I want to play it and by then it will likely be on a rotating sale schedule.

PC Gamer had an entry up today with GMG code PCGMR-ALLIN-GREEN for 25% off a game this week. Since it was posted today, I don't know if "this week" means from now until the 10th or just through the weekend or what. I also don't know if it's usable more than once per account.

Also, I had to get this code via the internet because I'm still waiting on Alla to send me my copy of PC Gamer Smiley: mad

Edit: GMG has Borderlands 2 for 20% off right now. Assuming the code above works with it, that'd be $36 for Borderlands 2. I'm unwilling to experiment since, if it's a one-use code, I'd use it up checking on a game I'm not buying right now anyway.

Spellforce Complete Pack - $13.60
Dungeons: Gold edition - $7.49
Dungeon Siege III - $4.99
Last Remnant - $3.75

I heard a few people saying good things about Last Remnant when GMG recently had it on sale (this price is cheaper) although the JRPG/arcade looking style isn't really my thing.

Last Remnant gets boring fairly quickly. It could just be the FF-style combat, but I like to think it's also the uninteresting characters and dumb plot,

Last Remnant was absolutely awful.

Plot was by far its weakest point. Important parts were rushed and everything else was drawn out. Every time something actually did happen, I felt like an exciting cut scene was missing. The characters were so boring, they made those of FFXII and FFXIII seem incredible.

The battle system is actually the most interesting part of the game. Instead of standard-fair FF combat, a special tactical system is used. Your teammates are actually small armies and you give very general orders (attack, heal, use magic) and can flank enemies, but you can't specify the specifics such as which spell to cast. On the xbox, this system caused significant lag, but I had no problems on the PC. The issue with the system though is that it's much more interesting when you have 4-5 "armies" on your side, but most of the game you're stuck with 2-3 fighting a group with 5-6 "armies", removing almost any real strategy.

Well, I'm glad the style scared me off then and I didn't spend $3.75 on it (or the $7.99 GMG price)
