I finally finished working on a complete rebuild of my gaming PC, which thanks to some parts causing more trouble than they were worth, took about two weeks. In that time I've spent quite a bit of time playing Horizon Zero Dawn.
My overall impression is that if you like open world action games, than you should pick it right away. I would compare it to the Witcher 3 in terms of quality. The story isn't as good and isn't in any way tailored to your choices, but the trade off is that the combat is more fun and much more tactical. Even the weakest machines can hurt you pretty badly if you let them. The strongest ones take several minutes to drop and involve targeting weak points and using the right types of weapons and ammo. Though, I have found that if you can hide behind something large enough to break line of sight, you can pretty much cheese any mob to death.
This is the game that makes me glad that I bought a PS4 Pro. The game has beautiful graphics and a fairly detailed game world filled with lots of little nooks and crannies to explore. I haven't gotten into the story much, I've been exploring the world, taking down cauldrons, and collecting the collectibles. In a bit over thirty hours, I've hit level 34, gathered up all of the best weapons and taken down most of the harder mobs. I've had ball doing it. My only real complaint is that at least so far, I don't really care about the story. I've heard that it gets good eventually, but so far I haven't seen it.
