Has anyone else noticed Steam is delaying charges?

I was checking my bank account last week and noticed a very large charge from Steam (like, full price game charge) and didn't recall actually making any purchase that day.

Turns out it was a purchase I made back on July 11th or so, but it wasn't actually withdrawn from my account until 8/02. I went back through my bank statement and noticed that while the funds had been on hold when I did the purchase, they weren't actually taken until the beginning of the month.

I wonder if they did this so that they could handle refunds easier? (Cheaper). If they don't actually take the money until after your refund period is over, they avoid the transaction charges for refunding money to your account.

Edit:
Seems to be just recently. Because a purchase I made on July 3rd was posted to my account on july 5th (after holiday) like normal.

It actually scared me a bit. I never like seeing money taken from my account when I didn't do it. And I am usually pretty good about remembering when, where, and how much is taken out.

The Digital Deluxe Edition of XCOM 2 is $38 (50% off) on Steam. That's the game, all current DLC, and the soundtrack.

Directly by Credit Card (Debit, actually, but pretty much same thing).

So the charge for the game I bought on the 11th has disappeared from the "Hold" area on my bank statement, and is not on my actual statement yet. I am guessing it will show up at the end of the month, or beginning of the next. It's a sudden change. Never did this before, which makes me think that Valve has started doing what Apple does and hold off on taking the money right away.

I remember just using your CC to fill your Steam Wallet and buy the games with that, or add funds to PayPal and use it instead.

Steam has definitely added a significant delay to when they actually finish the charges to my credit card.

Purchase I made last week was Authorized right away, but rather than being deducted within 24 hours like usual, it posted to my account 7 days later. A purchase I made 2 days ago was authorized, but the authorization has disappeared and the actual deduction hasn't happened.

At first I thought it was my bank, because they started construction on their building this past week, but all other charges from multiple stores and various other accounts have been deducting like normal.

Maybe they're suspicious of you? Did you try a PayPal transaction like I mentioned to see if the same thing happened?

No. Cause it's not a problem. I keep enough money in my active account so that them taking money at random times doesn't affect me. And I get the game right away.

Everything gets approved just fine, it just seems to delay actually taking it out for Steam.

And I've used the same card on Steam for many years now. I even have their 3 tiered login authentication system. Password, Email Guard, and stupid Mobile App Guard (I broke down and use that now cause I had a lot of valuable cards to sell. People like their Waifus, I couldn't pass up 10+ dollars worth of cards rotting away in my inventory.)

If I had to guess I'd say that it has something to do with their two hour refund policy. It's easier to just deactivate the game and never take the money than it is to do a refund.

GMG also has a historic low for Homefront: the Revolution. If you buy it, spring the extra couple bucks for the Freedom Fighter edition ($15.50) since the season pass never goes on sale by itself.

HF:R had poor initial reviews because of performance issues but they've since fixed it up and it runs much better. Unlike the first game which was mainly multiplayer, Revolution is largely a single player campaign much like an urban Far Cry (seize checkpoints to gain territory, etc).
