The Secret World (new info)Follow

Funcom just updated the website for The Secret World with some new screenshots, trailers, and such. It's definitely worth checking out if you've any interest in the game. I've been cautiously optimistic about the game since its announcement...I'll certainly be waiting on reviews or a try in the beta before I even consider buying it. All the same though, it's been fun to follow its development.

Of particular note, I think, is the GDC 2011 trailer, and the London/Templar character intro video that's around there somewhere.

What am I noticing? I'm really impressed with the game's art direction. I think it's got some of the most well-designed enemies I've seen in a long time. Impressive for any game, and doubly impressive for an MMORPG. The scenes also look creative and original (love the Templar club called "The Crusades"). And as before, I'm still pleased with the unique plot and setting.

Player characters seem a little dull, especially in comparison to the enemies. I think it's an issue with the textures, which came off a little flat to me.

Lastly, in the videos the developers come off like some of the dorkiest guys I've ever seen. Perhaps that bodes well for the game, though.

Mine came up with Dragon as well.

I assumed, just based on the names, without reading anything, that it was going to be like this:

Templars:
Religious folk, pure = good, evil = must be destroyed.

Illuminati:
Sciencey folk, knowledge is all the matters.

Dragon:
Family folk, secrets in the family, etc, outsiders not welcome.

But answering questions on my pre-concieved Illuminati "Knowledge is power" opinions, ended me up with a Dragon answer.

I think I remember hearing something about it some time ago.

I remember thinking it was going to be something like that Hellgate London game that came out a while ago. Then until now I didn't think anything of it.

I am kinda interested on how it will play out. Also curious if they will be able to pull off the modern style or not. Only time will tell.

I've learned to just ignore gameplay videos at this point, honestly. Because they are, by their very nature, unable to actually give you a feel of anything. They are only useful for a graphical example, imo. Until you actually play a game, you have no idea of the pacing or how immersive the combat is.
