I've been following the conference on g4 and live streaming online both days and I've got to say that each presentation seems to be following one rule throughout : The actual software makers (3rd party included) Look set to wipe the floor with the new move technology (after they embarrass themselves). A lot of sequels look stunning. In almost all cases people are putting out some "hey look what i can do that wii did 5 yearo ago toy, and then they are also putting out solid game to contend with the new technology, it just seems like a bad business move to beat yourself up like that. A quick rundown from what is archive on gamespot already:
MICROSOFT
New CoD (Black Ops)- it is basically CoD:Vietnam, except modern.
Fable 3 - cities looked a little less in the shire and more colonial, there were varied landscapes, even fights with pirate bones on boats. very excited for this one.
GoW3 - decent(which is odd because I hate GoW- but that one part dodging the thing that was throwing cars and trying to impale them on spikes looked like a really engaging mini fight)
Halo Reach - More of the same, but I know a guy who will be getting it at release, and I'll definitely be bringing a controller over for some madness. The new single shot per round grenade launcher looks like my kind of weapon.
MGS:R I really like that you get to pick where you cut enemies in half, but other than that, I picture painfully long cutscenes and more of the same (this is the year of sequels, after all)
Other- A big push toward more digital media (ESPN, webcam chat, more movies for rent, more games on the marketplace). A carbon copy of wii release games (fitness, dance, driving, sports) a kitten tiger named skittes, and a blatant disrespect for women ( See morgan webbs comment on the two girls video chatting on the xbox -
"How does it work?"
"I dunnoo its like.. technological"
Also if you don't own an xbox 360, the upgraded model is quite impressive for the same price tag, and those lucky @#%^s in the dome all got free ones.
UBISOFT- Is incredibly french
AC3- After the way they ended the last one, do want.
Shaun White Skateboarding- Looks to be a non move title, had Franz Ferdinand and Jet on the soundtrack, I like the world that changes as you skate. Reminded me of tony hawk skater.
That laser tag thing- @#%^ing lol seriously ?
That breathing thing- I got that handled on my own.
Raving Rabbids rabbids looks to be another move title collection of minigames.
Ghost Recon- Invisible suits make stealth gameplay possibly way too easy
Driver: Sanfran- Shift, which lets you take control of any car at anytime, looks to add a neat depth to car chases
Grabbag- Oddly enough, these last titles were the ones that had me the most excited. Dust looked great, like a Black and White sort of thing. The new rayman goes here, and had a great art direction. Mania planet really is what I want the next gen to do. Where you can take the little big planet concept and apply it to racers, shooters, and rpgs. If the set of tools is really large and diverse and easy to use, I see all three manias being huge.
EA
MFS:HP- Bringing back the old police chase game play. This one could be either really fresh and fun or could end up feeling uninspired.
Dead Space 2- Even darker hallways with stuff popping out from the walls. Looked like they had to much of an ******* to really be "afriad" of anything. I saw quick time events too.
MoH Looks very standard shooter fair. I saw nothing new other than the graphics that looked like an advancement in FPSs
Gun Club- At least they are targeting FPSs large market correctly :p (it is a rewards system that gives members exclusive weapons and early beta acess to most shooters)
Battlefield :BC2- Also going to 'Nam
sports- SPORTS ! UFC ! FOOTBALL!
Sims3- Graphics and sims choices upgrade.
Crysis2- I wonder if my computer will run it ? Looks gorgeous, and can be played in 3D
Bulletstrom- This is what a super soldier should look like. Master chief has never kicked a door in so hard in flew across the room and squished the dude behind it. If I play any FPS this gaming cycle, itll be this one. Also that energy whip you can use to to grab people and pul them to you or slam them into the ground looks very fun to break up the shooting. It is a bit over the top and corny, but I like it.
SW:tOR This is probably the game I'm most looking forward to. A top dog studio MMO that doesn't have an auto attack, based on the SW universe. The video (hope, availibe on the SW:tOR site) was very well done. We also all are going to get our own starships !
