Hey all, I just ordered my copy of Frontiers this morning and am hoping to get it at some point during this week. I've never played EQOA before but I've always wanted to try it out but when it came out I was really young and limited to leaching off of my older brother's EQ account, haha. So now that I have the funds to get everything together I'm going to finally give it a go. Like almiost everyone in the MMO world I'm searching for that feeling I got the first time I ever played EQ and I've been through a million and a half pay to play MMOs to try and find that and the closest I ever got was Asheron's Call 2, which is now extinct. I accidentally stumbled upon the game again while I was just reading some Wiki entries about MMOs and it lead me to the official forums which much to my surprise were still active. After reading everyone's posts about how they miss the game so much and how everyone's returning tells me there must really be something special about the game so I figure I'd give it a go and look past the graphics :P. I'm hoping all this trouble of getting the whole shabang set up is going to be worth it, haha. Anyways, I'll obviously be starting on CLW and will probably start either a bard or an alchemist, if anyone wants to group together let me know, I'd eternally grateful to have someone to play with. I haven't decided on a name or anything yet but I'll post that here once it's all figured out. Anyways, hope to see you all in game!

Awesome, thanks. I was worried I offended the people in the forum in some way because it had over 20 views and no replies, haha. But I'll be sure to do that, thanks mang.
I only have one question though and that is, should I use Boon? The obvious answer is yes because who wouldn't want to get exp at 4x rate but I'm just wondering if it'll feel like I'm missing a lot of the game by leveling that quickly. Like am I going to have enough time to learn my class and be able play it sufficiently? Or is the 4x exp not as gigantic of a jump as I think it is because right now I'm thinking getting to like level 10 in 15 minutes.

Just make sure you know what your spells do and make sure to do all the quests available to you. Look for a quest guide online or use the Strategy Guide you can buy. I haven't used any Boon yet, but only because I spend all of my money on Armor smithing. I'll use Boon when I feel like getting a boost and have the money to spend on it. You should use it whenever you feel comfortable doing so.

Is it like ridiculous progression? Like if you kill 2 things at level 1 do you level?

Not sure about first starting off, didn't start using until around 5 and did the beginning quests that give you enough xp to lvl.

At level 1 you're going to have trouble killing anything, before you leave the city you should do the first 2 quests which will get you to level 3 without boon.
You should use the boon whenever possible, especially at the low levels when it will be impossible to find an XP group, just doing the quests with boon on will get you to level 17 after finishing the level 15 quest, otherwise you would have to solo in between quests because the normal XP reward after the 5 quest will not be enough to boost you to level you need for the next quest.
Ask around for people to give you money for a boon, many will, or at least they would when I still played.

YEah its been hard to get money for boon....

imo, you'll be missing a lot of the game weather or not you use boon. no way will it ever feel like it did when every server was populated and people played lower level chars. the game is still really fun however, and still will provide you a new experiece, however lacking it may be to the original. but yeah, if you need any help with anything just mail condamor and if i'm free I'll give ya a hand.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Just got my game via UPS today so now all that's left is finding out a way to get an ethernet to my ps2 :P then I should be on no problem. I'll post my name once I get in the game.
If you plan on bridging the ethernet from a computer with wireless let me know if you need any help, I just finished doing that with my old ps2 and laptop and did run into some problems and can give you tips if needed, some times it works without problems and others you gotta tweak settings.
Is there a way to just connect my laptop that has wireless to the ps2? That would be waaaaay easier.
Yes that's what bridging the connections does.
The steps differ slightly depending on which operating system you have, I've only done it with windows but I'm sure you can do it on others.
For XP you go into network connections, on vista or 7 you go into network and sharing center and then manage network connections on the side bar...then you will have a list of local area network, wireless network, and blue tooth or fire wire if you have them.
You will want to select both the local and wireless network(hold down control while pressing each), right click on one and select bridge connections.
That's all you have to do if you got lucky and don't have to mess with the settings.
If your ps2 can't connect and/or if your laptop loses internet then you likely have an IP address conflict.
To fix an IP address conflict you will need to look up the IP range on your routers set up page. Once you have that on the ps2 select manual IP address entry, and enter a IP address somewhere in that range, one in the middle or at the end of the range will be safest, hopefully it's one not already being used.
If there are still problems open up a command prompt(if in vista or 7 make sure to run as administrator), type in
netsh bridge show adapter
It will show you the wireless and local connection and under the force compatibility column it will say enabled or disabled.
You want the wireless to be enabled, local to be disabled
If they are not use these commands to fix it, replace the # with whatever number that conection was in the list above.
to enable: netsh bridge set adapter # e
to disable: netsh bridge set adapter # d

Hm, alright thanks a lot for posting all of those different ways, I'm sure one will work haha. One question though, will it severely lag my laptop internet or ps2 if I'm using both at the same time? And I'm getting about 4ish/5 bars with my wireless, will this be decent enough to not lag on EQOA?

What type of wireless is it? If it's A or B then I might be worried but G or above should have no problems sharing the connection, as long as you're not trying to stream videos at the same time as you are playing on the ps2.
I'm surfing the web right now while killing stuff outside of town for a new toons starting quests, no noticeable lag with a standard wireless G connection.

Not exactly sure but I've been able to play multiple mmo's with my laptop on wireless with little lag so I dunno, haha.
It's most likely G standard.

For some stupid reason it won't even let me ctrl click any two networks so I'm not able to even right click them to bridge the connections. I'm running 7 so I don't know if that has anything to do with it?
But when I plug the ps2 into the internet it shows up as "Unidentified Network" but I can't do anything with it.

You said I should "pick" an IP address but there's only one that I can see. And I only see subnet mask so I assume they're the same thing but I haven't a clue what default router is. I think I got it under control haha.
(Damn it I shouldn't have spoke so soon, it just connected with the test connection, now I'm getting DNAS error -611.

You should also be able to highlight the connections without holding control, you just gotta drag like when selecting multiple icons on your desktop.

What brand of router are you using? I am most familiar with lynksys ones but all this info should be accessible in any brands utility software.
There should be a starting IP address entry and a range that shows the highest IP, net mask is also known as subnet mask, default router will be the IP address you typed into a web browser to access this set up utility. Sorry if I wasn't clear on those earlier.
I've taken a few screen shots of my router set up and highlighted the key parts, again this is for a lynksys router.

For example with such an IP range you might want to enter 192.168.1.149 and it's unlikely any other computer on your network automatically picked the last possible address in the range.
If for some reason your router doesn't specify a range you can always play the guessing game and just enter the first IP address then add some amount to the last number, and hope you are still within range. Better yet though if there is a set maximum number of users options like shown in the picture above you can manually set the range, the max number adds one point to the last number of the IP address starting from the start address. In my set up if I change the max number to 51 then my range increases by one number.

If you got to the DNAS screen then the connection was successful and you are hooked up to your wireless network, but something is getting caught up when connecting to the internet.
I would try to manually enter the DNS address as well as the IP, this can also be found in your router set up page. On the PS2 you will have a primary and secondary DNS entry, but if your router only lists one then just put it in the primary and leave the secondary blank, that was my case and it works fine.
