I've recently started playing my old PS version of Chrono Trigger again, and it made me think about the concept of RPG's and the New Game +. A lot of the older Square games have New Game +, and pretty much none of the newer ones do. The only one I can think of that does is X-2, and that was pretty much a flop as not many fans liked it (I did, but that's another thread).
I can't help but wonder why it is that games these days no longer have New Game +. It's great for adding replay value, especially with a game like Chrono Trigger where you have many different endings, which all require you to beat the last boss at different points throughout the plot. Why don't video game companies make games with these kinds of plots and implement New Game + again? I'm not saying I want a carbon copy of Chrono Trigger for every new RPG, but there has to be other creative ways to imitate what is arguably one of the best RPG's ever made. I think this is an especially valid concern considering how many people complain that video games aren't as well designed or throughout now that we have better graphics available.
