how is the Sands of Destruction game? I tried to find some info on it, but it didn't sound very fun from what I read >.>
So I figured I'd answer this in it's own thread.
So far, I am enjoying the game. I only have about two and a half hours of playtime in it (ya, not a lot, but I've been busy with Star Trek Online), but it plays like any classic RPG would.
You play as Kyrie. In this world there are Humans and Ferals. The Humans live as slaves to the Feral, or at best a much lower class. Kyrie lives in a small peaceful town where Humans and Ferals get along pretty well.
The game has voice acting, quite a bit of it. The opening video was pretty good.
By watching cutscenes, and listening to what the characters say, you learn "Quips". These can be equipped to your character and they provide random bonuses, like additional attacks, increased experience, defense, etc. based on certain triggers like being attacked or defeating an enemy. I have yet to find out if you learn the Quips even if you skip a cutscene, because I don't want to chance it and miss out on anything good. (Plus I want to read the story).
So far the story is good. You aren't fighting the save the world. And you get a @#%^ing Teddy Bear to fight with you (who can kick your ***).
From what I've seen with other players, your skill setup is very important. With boss fights, the difference between an easy win and an fast loss is how you play the combos. In battles you have points that determine how many times you can attack. Skills can increase these, and if you get a critical hit you earn another. After attacking multiple times in a single turn you can preform a special attack. Your skills are leveled up and learned through CP points which are earned through battles.
The game isn't exactly hard, and if you like a classic RPG then you'll more than likely like this game. And I'm pretty sure the storyline was written by the same guy that did Chrono Trigger, Cross, and Xenogears. So really as far as RPGs go, the storyline can't be that bad. And the music is composed by the person who did the music in Chrono Trigger and Cross.
Edit:
Played again for an hour tonight, got my *** handed to me in a couple turns by a boss. Not sure what I'm going to do, gotta go back through and find out what I did wrong and where if any place I can grind out a few levels.
