I've been playing Lord of the Rings Online now for a couple weeks as a WoW Break, It's not bad, you can do a fair bit as a totally free to play player.
Some of the limitations:
Only 2 character slots per server
Warden and Lore Master class not available
Monetary cap of 2 gold
Can't mail money
Can't post auctions
Only 3 bags
Can only mail one item at a time (extremely irritating)
Most of the above limitations can be expanded through game play by acquiring turbine points, but it takes a long time.
The bag thing is a big pain in the ***. Each bag has only 15 slots, and for us pack rats, it sucks. There are no other bags available as far as I am aware of either.
Graphics wise it's a little better than WoW, but not always. Water features in WoW are better, such as one actually makes ripples when moving, splashing in it.
The overall game play is pretty good. No major difference from WoW, still have buttons and priority's.
Crafting is a lot more intense, but I dislike the lack of variety between the choices given. You have to take a "combo pack" of 3 skills.
Fishing is the only hobby.
But generally a good time killer.
