Quest cutscenes, all the old 1.0 except job quests are gone. The DoH/DoL particularly WVR, MIN, FSH, CUL and ARM/BSM were very good.

I think what I miss most is fantasizing about the games potential. I think A Realm Reborn is great. I think it has great possibilities for an excellent story. What excited me most about 1.0 up until the launch of 2.0 was the possibility that Tanaka and then Yoshi would be able to break the MMO rut that has the industry stagnant and searching for innovative ideas. I looked to SE to design a game that was casual friendly, rewarded skillful play more than simply straight EXP and it all resided in a deep rich world accompanied by a great FF story.

I've said it before and I'm saying it again... I liked Tanaka's vision of FFXIV. The execution was not up to par but the idea still has me captive. I was hoping XIV would be a fulfillment of my hopes. I guess I will continue to wait.

Although I do really like the limit break system, I don't get to use it that often. I kinda miss stacking weaponskills for status mods and skillchains from 1.0.

I miss the lack of zones, more specificly the lack of zones in cities. They used to be one single city and i LOVED that. Felt so much more immersive. There's not even a point to it in Limsa since the rest of the otherwise walkable area gets rendered in high quality regardless. It's just a lot of lines that somehow connect to another line, and it's missing like a huge chunk of playable area in between those. Especially bothers me since i loved walking there in 1.0.

I also miss a bazaar function that allows other people to sell YOU stuff instead. Could sit my butt down asking for 200 crystals back in 1.0, and anyone who came by could sell me those if they needed some quick gil. Now all the marketplace has is 2000 pieces for 70.000 gil total by someone named "skdkfkskd". Even if i needed 2000 pieces, i still wouldnt buy it off -them-.

A lot of cursing has been toned down for no apparent reason too. It's pretty heavy in one place, while another place got a massive censor in place. They're all minor things, but they simply bug the hell out of me since 1.0 had them and there's barely any reason not to have any of it.

I only played for about two months before I just couldn't stand it anymore. All I can say is, I hope they bring some of the music back.

dont get me wrong, i love ARR and its a of fun but i feel like there are a lot of details missing that would make it unique and give it that final fantasy "feel", similar to the way ffxi was unique ya know. after reading an interview of yoshi p. where he was like 'we should have told the developers to make it like WoW in a final fantasy universe' i was kinda like Smiley: disappointedSmiley: disappointedSmiley: disappointed

You're only hearing about whatever few things that were good that 1.0 had going for it, that's why. Remember, there's a reason (well several) it bombed and became known as the worst MMORPG ever released.

Start running / Stop running animations
Mainly Elvaan animations. I changed races because the new animations have elvaans running like they have a stick in their bum.

I don't miss the Lalafell running and stop/start animations. I looked like a weeble wobble. Smiley: lol

Yeah, there was more "weight" and "gravity" to it, but the Lalafell running was just utterly ridiculous. Even the Tarutaru in XI ran better than 1.0 Lala running. The 2.0 version of Lala runing is greatly improved.

1.0 did some things right, a few of them even better than 2.0 has done, as this thread has attested. It did so many other things so horribly wrong, though, that what little good there was could not make up for all the bad.

All the disconnects and crashing problems that plagued us in the first few weeks of 2.0 but which have largely since been resolved were also around in 1.0 and they never got fixed. Never, ever. The night the servers went down last fall, half the players couldn't even stay connected since everyone was crowded in the same areas for the battle of Cartenau and that many bodies in the same place caused massive crash issues.

I also miss the crafting leves that gave you the mats for it. And I'm really sad I didn't get my crafts higher back then.

I miss the general over world party viability too. Roaming Coerthas or heading into Natalan with a party and not just being in a giant swarming FATE zerg. I like the FATEs, but I miss the fluid overworld parties. Tank needs to leave Natalan? Just have someone who was leveling something else switch to their tank class for a bit. Tank leaves a duty finder dungeon (probably after insulting someone or ******** about them *only* being in AF)? Sit there doing nothing for 20 minutes or longer.

Using the D-pad (up/down/left/right) to select abilites from a normal Hotbar while using a controller.

At least an option to do it that way.

GiftedChild, you could have saved 2,000 dollars.

From what you said, that would mean the majority of the players here, myself included, have 3,000$ computers.

FFXIV 1.0 was not that powerful. If anything, only the char selection screen was a killer.

Crystal Tools is a great engine for console games. It is a terrible engine for PC games.

SE had to learn that the hard way.

Oddly enough, I didn't crash out in 1.X as much as others because I deliberately ran at a lower resolution in a mini screen. Full screen caused ugliness and crashes, but a smaller 720p window ran the game reasonably well.

Can you provide a link that shows that FFXIV ARR uses the Unreal Engine?

Everything that I have read states that it has a custom engine that is closely related to Crystal Tools.

There was a rumor early in development that it was using a customized version of Unreal 3. Whether that is true, I don't know any more.
#45REDACTED, Posted: Sep 30 2013 at 5:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well, to make anyone feel better, the $3000 rig was simply the price at the time, buying each individual hardware and built it myself at that time.

Interesting.

Here is what Yoshida said in Oct. 2011:

Quote:

Gamer Escape: 2.0 is going to be a new client, new servers, new engine. Is this still a form of Crystal Tools? Is this the Luminous engine? What can you tell us about that? Is there going to be support for Direct X 11?

Yoshida: First of all.. the current engine like Crystal Tools or the Luminous project, are made more for console games where they’re able to show the greatest level of graphics in a passive environment whereas an MMO is an active environment where, while you still want it to look beautiful, you also have many many people coming together in the same world. You have something like MW3 where the graphics are beautiful but what would happen if you had like 3 or 400 people on the screen at once. Would the engine be able to handle that? So what we wanted was something that could handle more of an active gameplay that we’re aiming for but also be able to provide beautiful graphics and landscapes. We found that Crystal Tools and Luminous would not be the optimal solution for this so that’s why we’re going to develop our own.

One of the reasons we had some trouble with the original launch of FFXIV was because we went through Crystal Tools and it was an engine that wasn’t really optimized for an MMO and so we’re currently working with technologists that are working on Luminous to make us a custom, optimal engine that will work for FFXIV.

SE is going to let you blow it (uhh....) when they release the DX11 "high end" client in about six months, give or take.

Ironically, my budget PC from nearly three years ago has turned into a nice $1500 rig equivalent as I upgraded it component by component.

They took Unreal 3 and customized it... :rolls eyes:

Same sh*t, different toilet.

Point is, it's not Unreal 4 and it's not Crystal Tools.

Yes, Crystal Tools may be sh*t for MMORPG but no reason it cannot be improved or tweaked.

Again, S.E. went the Unreal 3 route simply because it's old/stable/easy to work with. At the same time, easy on the 6th, 7th generation PC hardware.

So to me, that's flat out screaming socialism in game. Everyone gets equal treatment, everyone gets an equal share of the pie, everyone gets an equal share of experience. Which I'm not a big fan of.

My philosophy is this, if I have the $$$ to blow, then you let me blow it. It's as if I enjoy exotic cars that costs as much as a house but I don't get to enjoy those because people around me can't get it.

Well, perhaps it's bad analogy but that's how I feel about it.

Nowhere does it say that they used the engine for FFXIV ARR.

You realize that SE produces a ton of games, right (either directly or through the studios they own)?
