Step aside, Lighting. Shantotto joins the Brawl!Follow

Lightning by far is the worst character to have ever graced the FF scene. She still does not outshine Aerith Gainsborough nor will she ever take the warm spot I have for Terra Branford. Lightning's character as a whole is rather poorly developed in terms of the FF franchise. Which by far I can say can be backed up by Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation on Youtube. A woman who was a soldier (Sound familiar anyone? Cloud maybe?) Who has trouble moving ahead in life. *cough*Cloud*cough* and thus became emotionally bent out of shape when her sister was taken away from her in a crisis that neither her nor her own kin could control. *COUGH*ZACK!*COUGH* That being said she ends up going on this long journey to save the world from destruction from those god awful creatures. (Fal Cee or whatever you call them.) In hopes of saving her sister. She then comes to the realization that she is a "pet" so to speak. Just like Cloud did when he found out about Sephiroth and Jenova. So that really being said Lightning is just a more sex appealed Cloud. Oh to also back up my case her character development DID stem from Cloud because I do believe as a pre-order bonus for Lightning Returns you get Cloud's signature suit from FF7 with the iconic Buster Sword. So please don't tell me she's going to make a watermark in the history of FF when Cloud has already done it himself with his fanboys/fangirl base. The only thing that is appealing about lightning is....well I can't think of anything. So I really can't say. But all I can tell you is that she is nothing more than a recycled and feminized Cloud. Call me ignorant if you wish, but she holds no place in my heart as an iconic character when she is nothing more than carbon copy trash. *Fixes Glasses* I await your argument sir/madam.

Oh and the cheese they served with the wine in the QQ room. To die for.

Did I forget to mention their names are from the weather as well? Lightning and then Cloud? Put them together? Lightning Cloud. You can't say that FF didn't even scream "COMPARISON" with her character.

I can understand that they are bringing in ff characters into xiv. Im not 100% with dragon quest coming into a ff game. Maybe they'll bring in star ocean characters or grandia?

We'll probably start seeing disney characters when kingdom hearts 3 gets closer to release.

I wanna play ff I hope theyre not going to forget xiv is still a ff title.

I'd prefer Zeid myself, if we could pick FFXI favourites, or even Gilgamesh.

The question is not whether this constitutes "fan service." That was never being questioned.

If you don't see anything different between using redesigned transportation methods of the same names and carrying over actual plot characters, well, I'll never be able to prevail upon you.

But, you see, that's all this is, period. Shantoto is not coming to town to change the story (and despite what has bee said previously, I doubt Lightning is either). All the reports for these fates and events follow the same line: The "Bubbly Bernie" inclusion rule.

If you are not aware by now, there's a FATE in the Ul'Dah region where you fight Bubbly Bernie. Bubbly Bernie, if you are not aware, was a low level monster from FFXI that was a running gag for a while. In fact, there was once an alliance that tried to kill him.

(OK so maybe I wrote that entire last paragraph as just an excuse to post that ages old video, @#%^ it :D)

His inclusion doesn't impact the world. It doesn't break the game. It doesn't destroy your immersion or ruin FFXIV. And you can completely avoid the fight, and never, ever see it.

That's what these are. They are nods to long-time fans and followers of the series. Just like Cid being in just about every FF game, just like having Moogles. Hell, you know that nifty Magitek armor people right around in? You think that sh*t's new and wasn't shoehorned in? They actually put that sh*t in as a storylined element, but it's utterly ripped from an entirely different game made years ago, albeit within the same franchise.

Complaining that they are sticking in costume and minion giving optional FATES and missions is like whining about having to eat dessert at the end of a great meal. No one will force, and hell, you just might like something sweet after consuming everything else.

I hope we have furniture that is really useful.
Like a Larder in the Kitchen that holds some basic Ingredients and perhaps a stove to cook on.
Like stuff in a workshop that repairs armour, does some basic synths etc
A Hall to show off some of your achievements.
For Company Housing it should include some duties you have to perform weekly to progress (think DoH DoL here)
and those that don't contribute can't partake of any benefits gained.
umn probably wrong thread - to be relevant I would install a throne for my shantoto pet ^^

Off Topic: You're still on that? That was like 10 post ago. Plus it's going to be a biased arguement which nobody is going to win. So please let sleeping dogs lie.

On Topic: I hope they bring the moogle who took care of your mog house back. Then again....I might get to stare at my retainer...who's gender I am not revealing until I get my house of course. I don't think the misses will appreciate me looking at my retainer much anyways. She's rather possessive. Oh woe is me.

Isn't this a little late to complain, consider the BLM soul gem is called Gem of Shantotto?

Re-imagining is fine FF has been doing this forever. Side quest stuff is fine. Fluff is fine. Re-imagined characters in ARR is fine.

When SE starts taking old stuff in the same form in the new, ripping stuff directly with no re-imagining into the main story, or making them the main story in expansions. Is when I will draw the line.

Hasn't happened yet nor do I think it will.

Shatotto, actually, but the text does joke about Shantotto during the beginning of the relic line, if I recall.

I made my retainer look like one of my submissives 'miquoteized'. She was actually quite pleased.

It's kinda funny but ruins the lore of the game, for those that care. Shantoto is a totally different universe, same as lightning.

Most MMOs are quite serious about sticking to the lore (at least for actual ingame content), infact I can't think of many that don't.

Yea, um, Lightning and Shantoto (as well as the Golems) are all going to be events, like the festivals we have that are mimicking RL holidays.

Sorry, but you might be wrong.

Lightning is probably not just an event. It's very obvious (to me) that Lightning is going to be a main character in the story. I'm guessing we will need to free her from the Ascians.

I'm not going to make a big deal out of it, but I hope they start making some cool, iconic characters/character designs that are unique to ARR.

The sad part of this is that there already have been. But, people have already been in such a rush that they seem to brush over Minfillia, the Great Detective and his assistant (which have not yet made their grand re-appearance).

With that being said, one must also consider the fact that Final Fantasy has always been a tribute game since, I would suppose you would have to say 3 or 4. As there have been re-occuring characters and monsters that are iconic to the series. This is not new to them, and is not some shameless plug of previous series. This is just what they are known for by a lot of us old-timers.

The two oldest beastman tribes are the sahagin and goblins, owing their start all the way back to FF1. You have the Malboros, which I believe have been in every final fantasy to date.

The three primals that have had some form or fashion since the introduction of summoning (I don't include Leviathan, since he technically appeared in 2, as a sea god, or Bahamut, who started out as the dragon god in 1) where Rahum, Shiva, and Titan.

Needless to say, having crazy cross-overs, and tributes to previous games are what keep bringing a lot of people back. And it reminds people of what Final Fantasy is, and was. Personally I like this, and as long as the main concept isn't "What we did", but rather, just little reminders like they are doing, I am happy.
