Current Known Issue with the Quest "A Relic Reborn" (Sep. 19)
We have confirmed that there is an issue with the instanced battles against Dhorm Khimaira and Hydra during the quest "A Relic Reborn" wherein monsters will stop moving as a result of certain player actions.

This issue is currently under investigation. If a player willfully continues to battle an immobilized monster, the player will be in violation of the user agreement. The game logs of violators will be investigated, and those who are found to be in violation may be subject to punishment, such as a character data rollback or account termination. Please do not try to take advantage of this issue.

In the event that a monster is accidentally rendered immobile, we please ask that all members of the party leave the instance before re-attempting.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Hrmm not sure if I ran unto this glitch . When I was doing hydra he would run to the person and drop the balls on the floor which made the fight harder. I really hope this is not what there talking about .:(

Wow, memories of the Banhammer falling on MercuryX from the Sandworm exploit in Phoenix.

I felt a great disturbance in the server, like thousands of players cried out in joy, and all were happy once more.

Good times.

An FC-mate of mine figured this out in the first week. He then abused it 3 times and tried to get us all to abuse it with him.. I'm no longer in that FC, lol. It's repeatable (and I'm not going to say how), but anyone who was around for the mass bannings regarding Salvage in FFXI for abusing glitches knows better.

I can't remember the mechanics of it, but it would basically double everything dropped. MX transferred to Phoenix en-masse and killed all the endgame as they were such a huge (and unapologetic) shell, a lot of people gave up on their own shells and joined MX as it was the only way to get anything, and ended up being banned by association.

The salvage duping issue caused so many to be banned not because they accidentally had it happen to them, but because there was a deliberate conspiracy to keep it secret from SE so it wouldn't be patched. (Basically, it doubled or tripled the number of drops based on parties. So a group would go in as a party of six, then drop and rearrange into an alliance of 2 each, and get triple the loot.)

I think it went on about six months before SE found out. Entire servers (like Seraph where I was) were unaware of it and thus unaffected, but entire linkshells on the servers were the dupe exploit was known got banned. Not just because they benefited from the exploit, but because they deliberately chose not to report the bug to SE.

As always, it's not the crime, it's the cover-up.

A lot of salvage linkshells were banned on Asura. Even people who did it only once.

Right as long as you did something illegal once that is usually enough. I would be more concerned if it was people in LS who never did it.

It involves intentionally D/Cing as the fight loads, which will cause Chimera and Hydra to just stand there while you kill it. (It's more complex but that's the gist of it)

You are safe as long as you leave the instance if you find the boss not fighting back.

That's just it though, you couldn't leave the instance. We tried to leave, and had to wait out the entire time till he logged back in with 4 mins left. See, when they d/c, it doesn't give the Duty Commence. This was during their crappy 90k days, and the inability to log back in once you d/c. I don't see them going crazy on the Ban. The people who do it over and over though.... Take care, see you again!

Got 4 relics so far in 2.0 each with legit kills so, I'm not worried. Those FFXI bans... Never Forget~

You can expect them to do a thorough investigation. I hope they don't let it slide like the Garuda BLM burn.

That's kinda dumb to be honest.

What happens if you don't see this message?

Well are you not intelligent enough to realize exploiting a broken boss fight for gain is bad and against the rules?

From what I'm reading, it would seem that a very specific series of events have to occur for the boss to become bugged like this. Is it because of a hole in code from SE? Yes. Should users be able to continue to exploit because of that hole? No.

This is pretty standard in any current MMO with stipulations listed in ToS or other agreements. Fixing those holes isn't always a quick bandaid and may take considerable man hours to patch.

They aren't banning you on their own incompetence. They are banning you because you clicked that "I Agree" button with all those big words and stuff before it.

Still wouldn't have an excuse even if you didn't see their official message because exploiting a broken mechanic is obvious and ignorance in the legal world won't clear you of wrong-doing.

Their notice mentions NOTHING regarding whether this occurs with a boss, or with trash mobs. The majority of people, should this happen (especially with trash), would continue clearing the instance.

Attacking my personal intelligence based on my comments above have nothing to do with this issue at all, avoids my question, and are inflammatory at best.

My point is this: if people do not see this notice, many will continue to clear the dungeon and really not think about it, especially if the issue occurred by accident.

Now, if they intentionally cause it to take place? That's another issue entirely.

Actually it does its the hydra and chimera fights, which are boss fights. I wasnt attacking your intelligence just pointing out its a bad and unuseable excuse

Here's the thing though:
If you do current in-game battles, then suddenly the thing your "battling" just sits there and does nothing, wouldn't that raise a big red flag to you?
You are right that many people would do it anyway, regardless of this message, but that doesn't change the fact that it IS an exploit. I see this in so many games. "It's part of the game, so how can it be cheating?". It should be obvious, but cheaters will be cheaters. To say that the "majority" of people would do this... well, that's questionable.

Sadly BG cheats like crazy and did so in 1.0 (Pos hacking out of IE's arena to avoid certain damage for example) and continue to get props but eh. Anyway, much like the Titan exploit, people who intentionally exploit should definitely get banned, you can't call it "SE's incompetence" since every single/multiplayer game in existence has an exploit to be found somewhere.

If you go in and Chimera/Hydra stands there letting you beat on it, something obviously isn't working because how many FF games with a Chimera have you played that never fought back or auto killed you?

Same with Titan, if you purposefully jump off the platform SE doesn't even need to see the particulars, they know people are exploit. "But it'll hurt the games population blah blah" so what? Make examples of them, as we seen with Salvage bans despite crying "I'm never playing this game again" after stating that SE would never catch and ban them...only to get banned, people crawl right back even if they have to start over.

Good times.

What was the sandworm exploit?

While others hinted on what happened of it, what it involved was perhaps an oversight in the pseudo-instance code. Basically, you could've engaged a target in Salvage, Sandworm areas, and Nyzul with 2-3 parties (didn't need to be full), whittle the mob down to low HP, and then dissolve the alliance. When the mob died, loot would wind up being distributed to all parties even though one still had claim prior to its death. Since there was no, "You'll get kicked from the arena for not being in the group" mechanic, what a lot of the dupe sellers did was invite their buyer and just tell them to sit unpartied with a mule at the event entrance. If their drop came, they'd pay the mule and get invited to one of the duped parties. It's possible the buyer didn't know they'd be buying ill-gotten goods, but given the people with that kind of gil were possibly on the shady side to begin with, willfully doing it probably wasn't beyond the realm of doubt.
