Quantity stands to be improved, especially in scenes where voiced in one section, but not the next.

Quality will forever be speculative and I honestly don't want to see this thread devolve into yet another "JP voices are superior!" grumble fest where 9/10 the people who say that can't even speak Japanese. If I had one gripe, it'd be the voice of the lalafell that runs around with Yda. The voice just doesn't fit.
I'm on the same boat, my Japanese isn't that great but at least in my opinion the VA quality is lacking on both languages, perhaps someone can offer some insight for German and French?.

So far the weakest point in the game (quality wise), however it gives us something to look forward in the future.

But to be honest, i had lost my faith in english voice acting ever since FFX (which was still decent, just went downhill from there) already, so it's not like i had high expectations this round.

I thought FFX had good acting. Except for Yuna and Lulu. Both of them sounded like they had socks stuck in their throats.

I do realize what word sock rhymes with, and the pun I unintentionally made. Feel free to run with it for humor's sake. :p

It was a bit weird. There wasn't enough of Urianger either, and he had the best voice.

Urianger sounds like the VA who did Balthier in FF12, and I really liked his performance in that.
Raubahn is the one voice that actually annoys me. Just...no. The others I can deal with.

I feel that the quality of the voice acting is great and that it really adds to the emotional feel of the story. For example, I actually felt moved by Kan-E-Senna's Grand Company speech in Gridania. I do wish that they utilized voice acting for at least all story line quests, that would seem to be most fitting.

The way some have VA and some don't is annoying at times. Haven't had a problem with the VA that I have encountered.

I always enjoy hearing how things are supposed to be pronounced. Ifrit is more of an Ifreet pronunciation. Was just waiting for them to say Titan like Tayitoon or something.

So is there a way to hear the JP VA with English subtitles?

I'm not a huge fan for two reasons. The whole aspect of the voice acting feels like it was a complete and utter rushed in at the last second kinda project. A. A lot of the voices do not fit the character they are potraying at all. (Some do but not that many.) Some of the performances are so incredibly wooden or done in a voice inflection so inappropriate for the context of the conversation you have to wonder if they had any editing process in the studio at all. Like you would think Minfilia would be excited she was rescued and all they had accomplished all she sounds like is she just had another day at the office. Not one of joy or relief that her friends were still alive or that she was spared from more torture, like it shoulda been. While it's nice they did the voice acting and some of the game would I think be less for not having things like Garudas scream. My other big pet peeve is just the sheer spottiness of it. Like others said.. they shoulda committed to it one way or the other. Specially in the parts that had voice acting for it to switch constantly to having voices or not having voices.

I found the English VA to be a mixed bag, unfortunately. Some voices were great, such as Nero's and Y'shtola's, while some were just terrible like the leaders of the city states and Papalymo. From hearing all 4 languages, the English voices were definitely the weakest of the bunch. I'm more partial to the French and German voices, which is a shame since I absolutely love some of the English VAs.

You can change the voices to any other language in the System Configuration. Pick "Other Settings," go to Cutscene Audio and pick the language you want. You get EN, JP, DE and FR. (Adjust to client just picks whatever language your OS is.)

However, you HAVE to keep in mind that the subtitles will NOT match what is being said. At all.
