Hi... I'm in the process of maybe changing my cable/internet provider. I wanted to know if the internet speeds advertised have that much of an adverse effect on game play for the PS3 or PS4. I do understand that the internet speed does somewhat show up on a more powerful machine like a PC (even though PS4 might be just as powerful) but I want to know if there are any limitations with FFXIV specifically if I change my internet speed. Right now I have what's called Comcast Blast.. it gives me 50 mbps download and 20 mbps upload. What is everyone else running with and how does it run? I'm paying a ton of money for this and would really like to go to the next package below, which changes to 20 mbps download and 5 mbps upload. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Im on a piece of **** AT&T dsl connection that gets 20mb down and 3mb up and the game has been running fine for me. I play BF3 and noticed a jump of 20ms from the comcast connection I used to have which was the 30mb down and 6mb up. This dsl connection is not ideal for fps games but is totally fine for mmos. Im playing on a mid-high end pc.

My speed is 10 Mbps Download cable wired connection, 1 Mbps Upload and I run the game on maximum with no lag. I would say you are okay around 7+ Mbps Download speed internet.

Edit: Basically, for gaming anything over 10 Mbps is overkill and just extra. It does help to download patches quicker though.

Latency is more important than speed, which I believe is fiber optic > cable > DSL > anything else
Also, wired > wireless

The ping matters, not the bandwidth. You could be fine with 1.5 mbps DSL, so long as you had a low ping. Except for patch downloads, I guess.

Yeah, I just ran speedtest and got 1.01 mbps / .37 mbps and play on ps3 with this DSL and it works fine. Everything in towns etc loads normal the only thing that sucks (like many ps3 users report) is very popular FATES. FATES with only 1-8 people or so load fine, but the huge mob ones load poorly.

Well, I'm paying an arm and a leg for 50/20 and the FATES load like garbage now, so I think that's a PS3 limitation. When that bomb FATE happens in Costa, I can't see anything until halfway through the fight... and sometimes it ends, I get garbage exp and THEN I see the dead stuff on the floor, lol.

That's odd. I only pay 20$ a month for my net that's why the DSL is so weak. But that same FATE in del sol works fine for me. I wasn't able to target the big bomb on the ps3 though -.-

I had no problem seeing it, and targetting/killing the little bombs. I tried looking up towards the big one, and cycled all the way through targets and it never targetted him for some reason?

I would think if you are having issues like that with 50/20 you need to look at ping times and line noise. There is something affecting your play that is not bandwidth related.

I'd be careful in blaming user-end hardware issues for potential server issues. Whatever you're playing on, they're designed to cull visual data in crowded locations. Whether or not this is optimal is another story, but given how the game chugs in cities (especially near the starter guilds and market areas), my take is more that it's not personal latency or hardware issues, but that the zones are literally too crowded to process data cleanly, creating a mix of lag and packet loss.

One of the reasons why many more servers and hopefully free transfers can't come fast enough. The 7000+ concurrent users a world can support does nothing to guarantee you don't have 500 in each of the starter areas and then a big chunk in places like Costa, Coerthas, and Mor Dhona.
