So I finally unlocked my retainer, which is nice to have.
However, I didn't really realize you get to customize your retainer. I made mine a female.Which got me to wonder. Am I sexist?

A retainer seems like a subordinate, and here I am making my subordinate a female character. I know there's men out there that play female characters, but those characters become heroes. Strong and battle tested. My female goes to the market...
I could have just as easily made the retainer a male, but having a female pixelation next to me seems a little more aesthetically pleasing, at least to me. And no, it has nothing to do with phobias and such. I'm as liberal as they come on social issues and equality - but that's beside the point.
Furthermore, as I am creating my female pixelation and going through the list of customizable options, I began to wonder whether my view on women is also a bit unfair. Obviously the physical appearance would be something I that find pleasing, maybe based on what I find attractive in women. The face of one woman, the body of another, the lips of a third, hair of a fourth and so on. But, alas, there is no female with the mix of all the features that I find attractive. It kind of upset me that my idea of a beautiful is a collage of various features and unrealistic expectations. It's the imperfections that make someone, like a lady, beautiful. So I gave my retainer a bad haircut, scar, gender neutral name - and the independent personality.
Because ladies, you're not ugly, society is.

(or then again maybe I just other thought the whole process)

I don't think so. I made mine female. I figure I'm going to see a lot of my retainer, I might as well make it pleasant to look at. I could technically apply the same thought to my main character, but it only took 1 time being hit on in vanilla wow to decide to stick to male character's (seeing as I'm a guy)

Um... Yeeaaaaa.....

You took that to a whole new level.

First, no, you are not sexist to make your retainer female. I know guys who play as females because they don't want to stare at a male's *** for hours on end. Second, making your ideal woman in a virtual world is perfectly fine. Artists draw/paint idealized images all the time, why can't someone do the same?

Now, if you tell any perspective mate that they must match your virtual girl, and to get in the kitchen....

Yeah. It was about 7am and I hadn't had my caffeine yet. That can be rough.

Personally I always go the male grizzled look for my own playable characters.

For the retainers though, I made one very attractive blonde and one very attractive brunette.

I made my retainer a copy of my old character from XI. Gives me fuzzy-feelz when I ring her up.

Both my second account and my adventuring fellow in XI are male Elvaans because I like the idea of big brawny guys curing my little Tarutaru. Smiley: tongue

My retainers are recreations of my mules from XI and those are... well, there's no rhyme or reason to some of them. In 1.0 it was my cooking mule. And then my "fellow" in 1.0 was an Elvaan guy, like my fellow and 2nd account in XI.

Personally, I see nothing sexist about making a retainer whatever the heck you feel like. (Unless you made it a tiny Lala because you get off on little girls, then you're a creep.)
