Quote:

Having confirmed in-game advertisements for RMT* sites, we have taken the following actions to address this issue.
* RMT (Real Money Trade) is the selling of account or game data for currency in the real world.

Period: Aug. 24, 2013 to Sep. 5, 2013
-Accounts receiving disciplinary action for RMT advertisement: 518 Accounts -Action Details: Permanent ban from FINAL FANTASY XIV

In addition to chat filters, we will continue to address RMT activity through cooperation with our GM teams and STF (Special Task Force). If you are solicited by an RMT company in-game, please do not respond.

Among the accounts banned during our investigation, we have confirmed that many of these accounts were hacked. In order to protect your information, we please ask that you protect your Square Enix Account information. We also strongly recommend using the Square Enix Security Token to increase account protection.
For more information about the Security Token: http://sqex.to/em8

When you see an RMT advertisement, please file a report by using the in-game command [System Menu] -> [Support Desk] -> [Contact Us] -> [Report Cheating].

* What is the Special Task Force?
The Special Task Force (STF) is a team that works to prevent violations of the game's terms of service that would negatively impact FINAL FANTASY XIV. Their goal is to preserve the safety of the community and maintain an enjoyable play environment. More specifically, they handle issues related to RMT and the use of unauthorized third-party programs. Information collected by GMs will be analyzed by the STF, who will then take necessary actions against those who violate our terms of service.

Hope people are able to recover their accounts.Smiley: frown

It's the inaugural return of the Special Task Force Unit (STFU!)

On the other hand, as horrible as it sounds RMT interest would be a good sign for the game. If they smell a profit in playing the game they expect people will be around long enough to use their services.

Why wouldn't you use a security token!? The only annoying thing about it is not being able to log into the official forums at work, other than that it's pretty much a no-brainer (plus I thought they were now compulsory)?

Actually there's a phone app too

XIV accounts are actually an easier target than XI accounts were.

XI accounts had a second password that was entered once in the configurations and not entered daily, so it's possible to be infected with a keylogger and someone get access to your SE account, but still not have access to your XI account. With just the SE account used for XIV, once they get your SE password it's all over.

The security token app is available for iPhone and Android, if I remember right. No excuse guys.

Other than those using a Windows Phone or other non-smart variant, but the keyfob exists for those individuals so the point is pretty moot.

I know exactly one person who has a Windows phone and he loves it. I'm sure the other fifty people in the world with a Windows phone love them, too.

I can't rely on the Android thing as I am a compulsive ROM flasher. I should go for the FoB... just too lazy at this point.

This is new information for me! Can you link both the app and your fob to your login or is it a case of one, or the other?
#10 Sep 06 2013 at 7:31 AM Rating: Good
I'm not sure if the app can be tied to an existing fob or not. My first fob is still going strong - I figured I'd switch if I ever lost it, but that's about it.

We got 2 key fobs last week when we opened our Collector's Edition game boxes. I didn't even know they were coming for free with the CE.... also got the CD they were advertising for $50 each with the musical soundtrack to the game.

When I got my first /tell from one, my immediate thought was "this is an account theft attempt" because I felt it impossible to amass that high amount of gil for a game that hasn't even been out for a month yet.

I can't even see a reason why anyone would need to buy gil, this game doesn't have a lot of gil sinks in it...

I've seen a few high level rings on the Market Wards for 10 million, but that's probably people chancing their luck before the economy stabilises.

Same here. I spent about 20K of my nest egg on my Legacy character putting her in better gear for a 42 THM, but that AH gear will eventually be replaced by dungeon goodies and AF and turned into materia, so it was an investment. And the money went to other players, not the game.

About the only major gil sink is teleportation. 600 gil to travel continents hurts when you only have 5K to your name. Smiley: lol

I only make mention of it because my brother has one and was pretty disheartened that he couldn't get the additional security without buying the keyfob. Again, there are alternatives so it isn't the end of the world.

Unfortunately, no. You must choose one or the other. Also, once you remove a keyfob from your account you can no longer use the keyfob at all as it can not be tied to another Square Enix account at all. (Wish this wasn't the case I would have given my old keyfob to my brother with the Windows Phone Smiley: lol)

I have already spent 300k of my 360k... so I am broke... There is an economy in the game (I have made over 100k, so I guess I spent 400k total)... But, most people are quest spamming and leveling right now, so the focus isn't in the markets as much for them. And as a reminder, 100k = 1m in old world economy...

I teleport quite a bit, but I just don't play as often as many here... Plus I spend a good amount of my play time (Percentage-wise) doing quests on my main (getting gil) and crafting and selling food for more gil.

I was a 100+6 Woodworker in FFXI so I enjoy making gil, I don't see the logic behind buying it really, especially since it's so easy to make gil in ARR.

What are you spending it on?

I'm pretty much at the same amount of money I had when I started, whatever I make questing I lose in teleports and I've hardly bought any gear as you get it through questing and duties.

Seriously, what are you spending it one, I genuinely want to know?

Mostly on grinding Culinarian, just hit level 20... I'm making money selling my grind items on the AH right now... I'm sure once I get higher in level I'll be able to make more.

Other than that, I primarily spend it on teleports and gear for my LNC.

I hope not! If there`s no punishment for being stupid, they will just shrug, smile, and then be just as stupid once again.
P.S.: I also think the security token or the APP should be mandatory and bundled with every copy of the game sold.
That thing possibly costs 50c to manufacture anyway. Lots of trouble prevented.

The people who were genuinely hacked, via key loggers or social engineering, have a chance at account recovery.

The people like a poster here a few days ago who gave away their account info to a friend prior to it getting hacked.... not so much.

I'm going after my relic weapon and bought the crafted base weapon for 50,000 gil and both savage aim III materias for 5000 each. I got that gil easily from running the main quests... I anticipate that once more people find out about the main quest those numbers will go up (I hear that some job relic base weapons go for up to 170k, so I guess I'm just fortunate for the lowballers on the blm wand crafting market)

At lower levels, yes, you can get what you need fairly cheaply. The higher your level, the more expensive the gear. In XI, I wouldn't have blinked at paying 5K for any weapon or piece of armor, but my gil table is a lot lower in XIV. Even NPC prices are not that cheap for level 25+ gear, and crafting materials at that level are available only via gathering or farming or the market board. Leather armor in particular starts going up in price really quickly since you cannot obtain your primary materials via gathering. Gil rewards from quests don't even come close to covering costs the way they did at low levels.

As for teleports, I look at the cost and try to determine whether or not it would be cheaper to take the airship to the nearest city and teleport from there. Probably only saving myself about 100-200 gil on the occasions I do that, but it adds up. And of course, sometimes you just don't feel like waiting/are in a rush and fork over the gil to teleport from Forgotten Springs to Coerthas.
