So what little things have people found in the game that really impressed them about SEs attention to detail?

Some I found are:
When typing your characters lips move after pressing enter.
You can use /visor to lift up an down visors on certain armour. (WAR AF Armour has a visor which I can move up and down)
The Stars move round the world at night and change as you change areas.

I'm still impressed with the textures.

That and watching a single leaf fall off a tree in Gridania. Love it.

Emotes - the facial expressions are icing on the cake. body actions are one thing, but the faces are now so expressive.
Accessories actually show up as they look on the armory - rings show up and change textures when you switch, earrings, neck pieces, etc.
Armor in this game 'feels' like it should. Leathers actually look like leather armor on your character in thickness and texture.
Lighting is extremely well done. Step on any of the glowing destination quest nodes at night - awesome.
The old mobs from FFXI are still a nice touch... save for the Gobbies having a scorpion audio vocal. Bring back the grunt!
Flora you can get lost in, literally.

There's a couple of lalafell in the THM guild that are secretly discussing a conspiracy to asassinate the sultana.

In the Arcanists guild theres a mamool looking guy who asks for a bigger pen to sign the sheet because his hands are too large. The goblin and ququrin behind him complain about him holding up the line.

The CNJ quests talk about usimg nature as well as healing and its dangerous to focus solely on healing. In one of the class quests if you don't take initiative to attack and instead just heal the npcs they'll eventually die and you'll fail the quest.

The Black Mage job stone is called the Stone of Shatotto, a callback to FFXI.

In one of the story fights a remix of the battle theme from FFII plays, complete with an 8bit instrument.

Theres tons of little things in this game, some more obvious than others.

All the little conversations you can overhear.

In Crescent Cove, the following conversation:

Man: Where's my food, woman?
Woman: Get it your damn self, you son of an angry dog.

Sometimes I wander near non-quest NPCs just to see of they say anything funny.

When a bird flies overhead in Limsa, you see its shadow moving across the ground. Also the Geyser in Ul'dah.

There are 3 npcs in "Silver Bazaar" 2 females and one male. The two females are trying to lure the male npc with seductive poses but male says to stay from those ******* they gave him crotch rot..something of that nature. That was funny. Even in the virtual world you can still get STDs

Not too sure if its the other bazaar to the north.

A couple of lalafell that are in unhappy marriages, one in Ul'dah and another in Fallgourd Float.
The ladies of the evening chatting up the sailors in LL.
Casting your line when fishing actually makes a reel sound.
During the LNC class quests the antagonists facial expressions were perfect for his personality, as were the guildmaster's.
During the GLD class quest Momodi ducks under the counter when the fight breaks out like the bartender in an old western

I was standing next to an Aethercyte (sp?) in Coerthas just watching in amazement at how the wind was making my robe whip and flutter. The realism was stunning.

I've been enjoying the quest dialogues and pop culture references a lot, the NPC dialogues vary from stock standard thank-you's and requests to downright hilarious monologues. A lot of attention has gone into the writing and I find it amazing that some of it translates well to Japanese, without losing references, some of the them are very specific to song titles or movies that are originally English.

If you rearrange the letters in opo-opo it spells poo-poo.

Are you sure it's translating directly to/from Japanese, and not just localized well (like many Anime out there). I haven't see the Japanese version so I can't tell, but I can't imagine the plays on words working the same for all of the phrases, and would guess that they'd have their own plays that work well in their own language.

I'd be more inclined to say that the localization group working on the game just did an excellent job.

Lalafell sitting in chairs and swinging their legs.
Or Miqo'te crouch very animalisticaly with /sit. A very nice touch (I'm probably partial for choosing to play as one). I think it would be pretty bad *** to see them run on all fours while sprinting.

Interesting. No, I'm just making the assumption that some of it has made it's way into the Japanese version. But you could be totally right in that it's localised for different languages.
