Hit Play and crash right awayFollow

#1 Sep 04 2013 at 11:24 PM Rating: Decent
Computer = Ibuypower AM799
I finished patching and hit play.
A little FFXIV will pop out and the crash notice comes right away.
Saying that Final Fantasy has stopped working.
I tried windows xp compatibility mode.
I tried updating all the drivers.
Installed AMD beta drivers 13.8 beta 2.
Played around with the config file. Full Screen, window mode, resolution, graphic settings, you name it.
All did not help.
Anyone have the same problem? Anyone know how to fix this?
Please help
Thanks in advance

Are you using Windows 8? I upgraded Windows 7 → Windows 8 and everything was ok for a time, then every game I had would crash. I checked my Device Manager and there were a few (!) icons that, when I tried to update, was told the correct driver was installed. In the end I just executed the W8 full system restore (which is pretty impressive now I've used it) and re-installed the latest MB drivers and AMD drivers on reboot. Now everything is as smooth as butter.

Also, are you running FFXIV as admin?

If you have Windows XP Compatibility Mode you're using Windows 7 or below. I can speak to Windows 7 running XIV fine as well as Windows 8, Gentoo Linux with Wine 1.5.27 (which is what I run), and obviously the PS3 runs it fine. If you're using a Mac, Vista, or XP, I can't speak to those.

Can you copy the debugging output it gives you when it crashes so we can take a look at it?

Only have 1 "Close" button
no info about why it crashed
The image is kinda small, I will type out what it said.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a soluation is available.

Hmm, I could have sworn those boxes had a More button on them... I can fire up my VM tomorrow morning and look, but let me ask. Have you tried to reinstall?

You are running the game as admin, right? [Right click on game icon and select 'run as administrator']

Reinstalled it 3 times.
Also ran it as admin.

This is getting stupid.
I e-mailed this issue to the customer support on the 31.
Received this message on the 1st.
"This email has been sent to notify you that your ticket was received and will be responded to within 2 business days (48 hours) of receipt."
Check inbox and junk mail.
Now it is already the 5th and still didn't get a reply.

I think that happened to me. I cannot remember what I did but I know I reinstalled and it still happened also. Try deleting the FFXIV folder under my documents - my games. That holds some of the updates and cfg files. I know deleting only that folder then reopening the game you have to watch the cutscene again. It might now work but its worth a try.

Windows 8 genuinely just breaks itself at random, especially OEM installs. I think it has to do with half finished Windows Updates going corrupt.

Try running the FFXIV benchmark. If that crashes too I'd suspect your Win8 install.

It's 11/11/2013 and I'm having the exact same issue with no help at all with any kind of solution so far. Any tips? I've reinstalled over 5 times now since the first time when i tried to get into the beta and never got a chance to play cuz of this same situation. I went out and bought a physical Copy. I've updated everything and The simple solutions the FAQs on the main FF14 site mentions an "config" which I dont see at all in my folders. Anything that can help would be appreciated.

Signs and wonders, I say, signs and wonders!

I do at home. I got it for free and... well, at the time I was working in tech support and I knew I'd eventually have to support it so I figured I'd better get used to it. Not complaining that I got a much better job in software development, though.

It's not so horrible if you have dual monitors, and once you get use to smacking the Windows key and typing in the name of the program you want to open. Since I try to avoid using the mouse whenever possible, that actually works out better for me in a lot of ways.

Try changing your password. This happened to me once and a password reset fixed it.

I know this thread is old, but for anyone else that came here because of Google and having this problem, the above solved it for me. I had to install DirectX9 because it is not included with Windows 8. Thanks!

So I just got a new laptop yesterday (win 8) and noticed the FFxIV installer does prompt you to install DX9, but it does a poor job and open a second windows behind the main installer to do it.

I had this randomly start happening to me yesterday after I was adjusting in game settings.

FYI: If you are getting crashes and DX errors on launch, the launcher has a configurations section that allows you to reset all your in game graphics to default. Doing this fixed my problem and I was able to launch normally. I suspect that the INI file for the launcher occasionally gets corrupted, and hitting the "reset" starts you out again with a clean one.

SE recommends doing this first, actually, before uninstalling the game or direct X 9.
