Was the first thing I looked for! My character was tied to Excalibur though.

Kind of glad that's all they added to be honest. You start going all Star Wars and ****, then you end up with a crap ton of empty servers come billing time. Then it start the whole MERGE SERVERS! Then servers get merged and you get the, MY SERVER HAS TOO MANY PEOPLE ON IT! As frustrating as all of this is, it's the right decision.

So I think we only got three new servers, no queue, severe login restrictions continue....severe character creation restrictions continue... I was hoping to wake up to a different environment this morning. Instead we got the same crap.

What severe character creation restrictions?

They unlocked all the servers but three to new characters.

People need to read before they complain.

When do you think I'll be able to make a new character? My copy should be coming today or tomorrow, but it looks like all the servers are going to be off-limits.

They may have only added 3 new servers, but one announcement states that they are increasing the max number of concurrent players per World from 5k to 7.5k. That's a 50% increase right there without adding a single new World.

Ultimately, the proof is in the pudding. It will be interesting to see if people can login tonight during NA peak hours, and see how the game performs for those who do get in.

I'll simplify it for you and post the clear changes:

1) Duty finder (cause of most D/C issues and why they implemented login restrictions) used to run on all servers, meaning it could match you with anyone from any server. They have now made 4 groups, in essence dividing the population of players in 4. This theoretically could increase the number of players on each world 4 times. However, that is unlikely and the 50% increase suggested is likely a very conservative increase.

2) They have only added 1 server to each group (NA/EU/JP) AT THIS TIME. They have other servers ready to go. BUT, they'd rather let these new ones fill up and once full release another then have a bunch of new servers half full. Makes sense to me.

All around I think many issues are alleviated (though not entirely solved) but should be gone in a few weeks with the need for the possible add of more servers and further work on the Duty Finder.

I'm confused, how does this not mean they're still going to be implementing severe character creation restrictions. (from your link):

"In order to create a population balance between Worlds, we will continue to be implementing New Character Creation restrictions in overly congested Worlds. "

I guess you're just SOL if you have friends on "overly congested worlds", or don't want to start a character on a server that will be a ghost town in a few months....

I could see this being the case. Nothing has been said about being able to transfer existing characters to the new Worlds. Since playing on a new World requires starting over, they may not be expecting too many players willing to take advantage of the new World.

They would need about 6.25% of the player base (1 in every 16 players) from each existing NA World to be willing to start over to evenly distribute the existing player population across all Worlds. If they had added 3 new Worlds for the NA data center, you would need 16.7%, or 1 in every 6 players. If you don't get enough of players to start over on a new World, then you wind up with underutilized servers that aren't helping anyone.

Note: the math I did is pretty straightforward. The percentage of players you need to start over comes out to 1 - y/(y+z), where y is the number of Worlds before maintenance and z is the number of new Worlds added.

7500 player capacity is still a joke, there will be half the players of XIV not being able to log in still. Its a slap in the face to its customers.
