First I will say that I am one of those people who has been able to play less than 20 hours since EA started, the game seems fun enough, not spectacular but it will hold my intrest for awhile I think. I have suffered throu the WoW launch, the EQ2 launch and now this one. All equally as frustrating. I understand why SE underestimated the amount of players they would have, hell most of us who tried version 1.0 did.
The issue I have is with those who HAVE been able to play without major issue and the lashing out they do to the people who are frustrated with no bteing able to play. I believe MOST of those people, who wake up at 6am to make sure they can log in and stay in all day everyday since EA would be LIVID if they were the ones who couldnt get it.
They flame and namecall the people who cant get in, with 0 sense of empathy and understanding. I work 58 hours a week everyweek and have 2 kids, not a lot of freetime to speak of so when I spend what little money I have left on a game and actually have a 2 day weekend to play it (yeah i said 2, cuz some of us never see a saturday off work) I would like to actually be able to play. Am I frustrated? yeah, a little pissy? yeah.. but I am old enough to know that this is not that uncommon during any MMO launch.
What bothers me more is the dbags that have been playing nonstop, never logging out, never going outside to see the sun and then have the totall lack of understanding when those who havent been able to play at all complain.
Let them complain, they paid for a product they cannot use, it is a customers right to be upset.
Now go on, grind some more Fate's, get to max level, call people cry babies some more.. Im gonna go play catch with my boy and then call a lady over and get some lovin, maybe I will be able to play later, maybe not... its just a game.. they will fix it soon enough.
Like darexius2010 stated here:

Being one of those people I can sympathize. I had no issue logging in for the longest time but presently I'm unable to. It is rather infurating.
I think you'll find the difference in the response from the community is that good well constructed posts, such as yours, are fantastic and welcomed. You stated your case clearly, shared your thoughts, your thoughts are very valid and presented in a very adult-like fashion. The responses so far have been terrific.
The difference between your post and some others is the presentation. People are lashing out uncontrollably at everything and anything they can grasp at. They're screaming bloody murder, making inane threats and insults to other forum members unnecessarily, and otherwise throwing an overall tantrum.
On the flip side of the coin, there are clearly those who are doing the same in defense of the game and unnecessarily lashing out at those who can't play, such as yourself. It's regretable, but both sides are doing it, and neither are right to do so.
Your argument is well thought out. I can sympathize with you as someone who has been able to play a moderate amount. If all of these complaint posts were like yours, you'd see less complaining about the complaints. Sadly, this launch has shown that many people are very irrational and have an entitled sense about themselves. This type of behavior really annoys me. This launch is bad right now but 5 years down the road when you or I are still playing this (hopefully), we will remember it as a bad dream. Everything will be smoothed out in time and nothing really has been lost. In fact, they're compensating us for our lost time: something I'd never expect from the FFXI dev team.
I've been able to play a good deal and consider myself lucky but recently have had bad luck logging in. It's very frustrating on this weekend for me, especially, because classes have just started back. I wanted to burn myself out of FFXIV as fast as possible so I could focus on important things. :P But I'm in the same boat as you, now.
What I can perhaps comfort you with is telling you that, from what I've played so far, FFXIV ARR is absolutely amazing. When we are all able to play within the next week, I think you will be glad you were patient because there is a wonderful journey waiting for you.
Now, as darexius pointed out, people who post irrational threads that (constantly) complain, whine, or post negative things...such as this guy:

Of course Square Enix is the bad guy. They're in charge of their own servers. I don't understand how some people think.
There is too many people staying logged in, but that doesn't make it the players' fault. It's Square Enix's fault for miscalculating how many players they needed to accommodate.

are why some people, who have been able to play, will 'flame' or attack the people complaining.
Also, to state the obvious: players who are constantly playing are probably not looking at forums. I know I am not on here when I am able to play. The game is far too engrossing!
