FFXIV-APP Not WorkingFollow

#1 Aug 31 2013 at 4:49 AM Rating: Decent
I don't know where else to put this since I couldn't find a dedicated spot for FFXIV-APP related stuff, so I'm posting it here.

I've download the app, made sure I have .NET framework 4.5, extracted it using WinRaR, opened it up running as administrator, and saved my character but I can't get it to work. At first I thought it was because 14 was not on my C drive and now it is but that didn't fix the problem. My roommate downloaded it doing exactly what I did and his worked immediately. Not sure what's wrong, but if Icehunter has any suggestions that would be great.

Thanks

Maybe some folks can help you, but it'd be a lot easier if you'd detail what, specifically, is going wrong. You mention some things you've tried, but you don't tell us what specifically is or is not happening that is or is not expected behavior.

If the Plugin's tab is not working it means windows has blocked the file as a zip that contains .exe/.dll files. That would be the only reason for that not showing up.

Does the plugin's tab show for you? (star icon)
If it does show; does it log anything?

I myself noticed after the last update of the actual game I had to restart my game client because for some reason the game had blocked read access to windows for it's process. Not sure why on that matter; but restarting it fixed it.

What is this app? I keep seeing it being talked about.
It is an app for the PC? Does SE even have smart phone apps (searching apple store only gave me old FF games)

At the top of forums: XIV APP :)

It's an app I created from 1.0 that does translation, parsing and sound notifications based on events you put in.

Well, FFXIV APP doesn't actually seem to recognize anything I do in 14. The parser doesn't pick up anything and the chat plugin doesn't pick up anything.

The plugin's tab does not show the star icon and accordingly does not log anything. If it's because windows blocked the .exe/.dll files how can I get around that? I've used the free trial version of WinRaR as you suggested on your site.

Also, I've just done a clean install so is it possible that I'm missing something other than .NET framework 4.5 that your app needs to run?

Are you downloading it using internet explorer? Just needs .NET but if the plugins aren't showing then windows itself is blocking the file. :(

I'm using Chrome. I've also tried turning off any and all anti-virus that I have and that didn't help. Unfortunately I can't try anything right now since I can't login.

Alright, so I've gotten in. Tried numerous things including right-clicking > properties > and clicking unblock on the zip file as someone suggested and it still doesn't work. I get what you're saying about the star and it not recognizing the plugins, but my roommate's works and he also does not have a star on his so is it possible that that isn't the problem?

Or if what you say is indeed the problem, that windows does in fact block the .exe/.dll files then how do we fix it?

I understand if you're busy, but I really want to use your program and I'm currently unable to.

Edit: Update, I installed it on my 2nd roommates computer doing exactly the same thing as I'm doing on mine and it also worked immediately. There has to be some underlying issue here that I'm not seeing. We're all using Windows 7 etc etc. Suggestions?

As long as all files have been extracted; including the "PluginInfo.xml" files inside each plugin folder and the .dll's are not blocked it should load fine on any PC with Windows 7/8. If all files are extracted I would just defer and say it's something to do with windows in particular. Could even be UAC (user account control). Extracting with 7zip/winrar instead of Right-Click->Extract All has always fixed this issue of plugins not showing. :(

Sweet jesus! It works!

Not sure exactly what fixed it, but these are the things that I did.

1. I completely uninstalled my antivirus software (Norton) instead of just turning it off.
2. I used 7-zip instead of WinRaR.

If I had to guess I'd say it was Norton that was messing things up.

Thanks for taking the time, Icehunter.

Same problem.

Extracted properly (7zip)
Shows plugin star they appear to be working
Reinstalled .NET 4.5
Run as Admin

Nothing...

And I will not uninstall Norton.. forget about it, make it work with it.

It happens nothing. Hmm.. :(

I have the same problem here : )
FFXIVAPP running as Admin, Plugin icon (Star) is available but plugins are not logging anything from the game.

Using win7 64bit with .NET 4.5
Tried using both WinRAR and 7zip
My PC is using Norton security as well but I tried downloading the app on a separate laptop without any antivirus software, unzip it onto a thumb drive with WinRAR and copy to my PC. it still doesn't work.

I checked the plugins folders and the PluginInfo.xml and .dll files are there.

The following files are in the FFXIV folders:
FFXIVAPP.Client.exe
FFXIVAPP.Client.exe.config
FFXIVAPP.Client.exe.nlog
FFXIVAPP.Common.dll
FFXIVAPP.IPluginInterface.dll
FFXIVAPP.Updater.exe
HtmlAgilityPack.dll
MahApps.Metro.dll
Newtonsoft.Json.dll
NLog.dll
System.Windows.Interactivity.dll

I really love to be able to use this but I've been fiddling with it for a week now and still can't get it to work T_T

It picks up the chat log but won't translate it for me, super annoying.

My problem is that I see the 'Log' plugin (chat and battle statistics etc.), but I don't see anything in the Parse plugin. Not in the basic tab nor in the action log. Am I missing something?

Few questions :)

1. Did you run as admin?
2. Do you have norton antivirus installed?
3. Did you have any antivirus installed that prevents one program from reading the memory of another?
4. What OS? :)

thanks!

Yes I did.
Even disabled UAC completely. No changes.
I see battle stuff in the Log plugin, but nothing in the Parse plugin (Basic, Action log etc.)

No.

Using Kaspersky Anti-Virus, but disabled it while running FFXIV APP.
No changes.

^^; I've never; ever seen log get something and parse not o.O Can you do me a favor if you haven't already done so. Make a new tab in-game or modify one you would be comfortable doing so with; and make sure every chat filter is checked for that tab. It will make it spam alot inside that one but that is the only thing I can think of at this time.

Made a new tab with everything checked.
Still only Log and nothing in Parse.
Too bad I can't use this tool, I'm sooooo curious for some hot stats Smiley: grin

I can also see all the damage I and my party members do in the Log.
Smells like a problem with the Parse plugin?

It would more than likely be something system related. I've got a very large userbase without this particular issue; it's a strange one honestly. It's either no plugins load because it was blocked by windows, or plugins load but it doesn't log (because of norton or AV).

Do you happen to have logging "NLOG" turned on in the app and if so does it produce and logs on the system under /Logs/Errors?

NLOG is enabled, but all I see is a Logs/ folder and there's a XML file called '2013_09_06_16.29.45_ChatHistory.xml'.
No Error folder or something else.

Is there any chance to start the app in some kind of debug mode?

Edit: I'm using the german version of the game!
