I think i had a lvl 20 pugilist and most crafting jobs to 15 on version 1.0 but i decided to get the ps3 version and start from scratch as not to remind myself of any of the bad memories. I am really glad I did as I expected alot of the same with improvements. Fortunately the game has been completely redone with just a little touch of the familiar. I haven't been this addicted since wow came out, very pleased.

Actually, i did start over when open beta came out. I had most of my DoW and DoM jobs to 20 and a few DoH jobs to 30+. Honestly, i'm sure i would be happy if i would have kept my 1.0 character, but i find starting over let me really enjoy the journey this time through 2.0.

I had a lot of memories in 1.0. I was the 2nd highest leveled whitemage in NA, 5th globally and got to lvl 38 before I quit.
38 being extremely high level at the time and also the level when you get Raise. I was one of very few people on the server who got raise. In 2.0 everyone has raise now. Made a lot of friends and had fun in 1.0.

I think it took me 3 months total of consistent playing to get to where I was. In 2.0, it took me only 4 days to get from 20 to 50.
I kind of miss the grind though. Had a lot more time to socialize. In 2.0, everyone is rushing from fate to fate and are generally very busy.

Thought about it, but in the end I decided to stick with my 1.0 character, because I liked him a lot and I would basically be recreating the exact same character anyway. And also for bragging rights. Now I can say things like "You kids don't know how good you've got it." and "Back in my day..."

I started over had 4 characters from 1.0. I have 5 characters at the moment on a Coeurl. I figured a fresh start was in order. Also didnt want to start on a legacy server.

I kept my Legacy char but I haven't really been able to play on her because of 1017.

Started two new characters over to be with friends - the ZAM group on Ultros (haven't gotten in in four days) and my real life friends over on Lamia.

Had a legacy character that I haven't touched. Don't really want to, but 1017 keeps me from playing it anyway.

Had an itch to play a lalataru dating back to FFXI, so I created a new one on Ultros so I can join ZAM. 1017 keeps me from playing him much anyway, but I'm slowly making my way towards getting FC access. ( speaking of which, should I just /tell someone in game to join ZAM when I get to that point? )

Created a throwaway on Kujata to play since I couldn't wait. Probably wont do much with him after the login issues get resolved.

I had a Lalafell in 1.0, but I only got him to level 16 or so before I gave up on the game. I wanted to start fresh anyway since so much has changed. I'm enjoying the new game feel.

I'm curious as someone who did not play 1.0, what are some of the things that have changed? What are the biggest improvements? What are some of the things that the developers have done to draw your interest in ARR? Just wondering.

Mid 30's was my highest class in 1.0. The majority of people I knew were starting over so it was an easy decision. I wanted to experience it from the beginning. I have no regrets because the story so far has been great.

The graphics engine in 1.0 was poorly optimized. So extremely high end systems got a good experience, but mid range systems suffered with tremendous lag and bad frame rates. Lower end systems couldn't play it at all.

Targeting was a wreck (believe it or not it's worlds better now), and it was like FFXI where you got very little direction on what to do other than go outside and kill stuff. The job system was not even added until version 1.22. (A lot more abilities could be equipped cross class prior to that, but once the jobs were added there was a lot of spell and JA splitting and swapping.)

Leves were boring and repetitive. So were all the zones. The "seemless loading" meant that to get anywhere you had to hike through long tunnels between areas. Copy+paste terrain go!

It was a pretty game in its own way, and the story was nice and chewy, but the miserable lag and boring combat made it one of the most mediocre MMOs ever made - and that's after they fixed it to make it actually be playable at all.

I was in the mid 20's on most of the classes in 1.0, but left my character behind. I consider this an entirely new game and wanted a fresh start.

I started over and so far I LOVE THIS GAME!!! Having so much fun and I feel the MMO addiction creeping back up on me because SWTOR never brought it out...it could never keep me interested long enough for me to be addicted.

I've been sticking with my 1.0 char, but I also made a new char on the goblin server. Made another on a JP server when I got 1017'd. I wanted to start over completely, but I'm having a blast on my MRD when I actually get a chance to play him.

I started over. I only played my 1.0 char a few times in phase 3 just to see how much of what I had well had changed. I tried out every race and class in phase 3 and decided to make a new char in phase 4.

A lot of people did.

The leveling experience is totally different so it's not really a "do over" anyway.

I love the cutscenes when people talk and the duties, where it does any cutaway brings you into the story...most games have quests where they just put out text and im click...click..click....what do i have to do, but there is so much more here. the lvl 15 story quest just sucked me in, at the end of it all...the WHM, i assume, seemed so knowlegeable and grand but she was so young....i have to say in my 46 years this is the best mmo i have ever played, i wonder if blizzard killed TITAN because they realized what yoshi was doing?

The experience of starting a new character is not nearly the same as starting with 1.0 character with a few level 50's.

However, both old and new player will be going through the Storyline from start to finish. AND even if you have a level 50 you will have to start from the beginning on each and every one of the Class Quests in order to unlock your 5 Class Quest abilities. So even 1.0 players are doing every single quest from the beginning (Quest completion from 1.0 was wiped).

It's actually quite fun to be actively leveling up a fresh character while completing the Story missions. It's also fun to not worry about leveling up and just stomp straight through the Story.

Even if you still have a 1.0 character (or a few of them) you can just start a separate character in a different city to get a fresh point of view. ARR actually incentivizes having multiple characters with the rested EXP and the Leve Allowances that accrue while you are offline. The more characters you have, the more Allowance are accruing.

Finally, the limited amount of cross-class abilities in ARR means that you can have a fully 100% effective Class and only level a handful of support classes (Unlike 1.0 where you really needed everything 50 to have all the options available). Because of this, it seems it will be much more viable in ARR to run multiple characters.

Well said. Describes it to a tee.
