PS3 Fate lag and invisible enemies. Follow

#1 Aug 28 2013 at 2:46 PM Rating: Good
I'm sure I'm not the only person experiencing this on PS3 or even PC. Obviously it's worse the more people there are around but even then it's ridiculous. Was doing the FATE with that Svara dragon and literally couldn't see him the whole time and ended up dying because of it. I guess what I'm saying is that is there an option to reduce people/minions etc.. So it can handle it better?

Many thanks.

Try to get to FATEs as fast as possible (so you preload or load first) and stay completely still once you enter and let everything load. Use nonspecific aoe effects if you have to. I use Blizzard II personally. You can usually tell where the mob is by the other players that are visible swinging their swords in a common direction. I bet that we will only have to deal with this for a few more weeks.

For me I see nothing at all, I can hear 1 or 2 effects but am just standing in the middle of the FATE icon until the area loads.
Personally at my lvl I check if the FATE already a good 2 minutes in its pointless to go for it.
And am a PS3 user btw

I'm PS3 also. On the login screen (the one where it shows your character selection) it has a connection indicator at the top right. I'm not recommending that you log off now, but the next time you find yourself logged off, look up there and see what it says. It could be your ISP. My connection (when it works) is "Excellent". I still get major load issues at peak time but everything usually pops up for me 5 - 10 seconds in.

My connection always says Good, not excellent. I'm guessing this is because I'm in the UK and the servers are in America/Canada? God knows, and I also try to get to FATEs as soon as I can but they're basically over in a few mins. They need to extend that too.

Heh, my connection is always "good" and I'm 2 hours from the servers. Last time I checked the ping was at 10ms. Not sure what it takes to get "excellent".

I'm having these issues too. I was in a Coerthas FATE group, and I didn't even get credit for the majority of them because the monster(s) wouldn't show up.

What's your trick?? Port trigger?? regedit/adding algorithm??
How do we check our own ping from servers??

I wasnt Lagging till 2weeks ago

but now i do have that "i'm the only one moving in the whole map," some times over 10 seconds.

I hate how you can't do anything for a couple of seconds. Sometimes your char just freezes in place.

The fact that you're in eu connecting to an na server is your main problem. I'm fairly close to the servers but I have a poor connection bottle necking me that makes fates unpleasant. I can only imagine your issue is much much worse. If anybody can help with this id love to hear it. Does dmz mode help? I need a faster connection

True but I'm guessing a faster connection will help load objects and npcs faster in general. We're about to upgrade our Internet service from 6mb downloads to 20. If I don't see even a little improvement ill be let down.

I found that port-forwarding helped... not overly substantial but a bit...

It's definitely the PS3 though. I'm having these exact same problems, but I've found that I do much better if the fates don't have weather. So the snow zones are a no-no. It sucks to die and not see it coming. I can't wait for the PS4 beta in Feb because these lag issues have nothing to do with connection speed, but the limited RAM(512MB) of the PS3. How do I know? Every other PS3 game uses the same tricks to make the game work. The pop-in(Mass Effect) for example or texture mapping(Borderlands 2) are a few examples.

Now my buddy claims that his SSD is helping him with Fates, but I'm not really believing this. Granted the PS3 HDD isn't wonderful by any stretch, but I really feel the problem is the RAM..the lack of it. The PS4 will run this game like a fine wine and I can't wait.

They need to fix priority rendering. Enemies and party members should always be drawn.

Also, and im not sure if its possible with this game engine, but adding an option to turn off other players skill particles ect would do wonders for people on lower end systems and ps3.

They shouldn't have released the game on ps3 if this is acceptable to them. I can't even dodge things in dungeons for 2-3 second lag, i get two spells off before my pet attacks, ridicruous.

I don't think they should have made the best experience points source something that was almost unplayable for the entire PS3 user base.

Am on PS3 and my connection always says excellent and I still get those major lag where nothing showing, I even filter something about battle animation yet I see not much difference.

Your connection is fine, but the hardware limitations of the PS3 probably prevent that many models from showing up.

This right here. Though if I have a decent system, I would still turn off particle effects. I need to be able to SEE what I'm doing, and what position the mob is in.

The problem definitely is the lack of RAM, but an SSD can help mitigate the issue.

Any time some data is needed, but is not in RAM, it has to be retrieved from disk. With such a small amount of memory, I'm sure it happens a lot on PS3 as it swaps loaded character/mob models and textures.

If you can decrease the latency of this retrieval (which SSD's will do, by an order of magnitude), you will make this process much smoother. You'll still see the pop-in, but it should be much more fluid.

Just to be clear here, this isn't a PS3 only issue. It will be an issue for PS4 if they don't fix priority rendering.

I get the issue, and im melee so im close to the fate boss, I have an OC i5 3750k and a GTX 680 OC, more ram than the game uses and run off an SSD (not that SSD would matter in this case, same for ram)

Its the games priority rendering system when far too many players, skill animations, and particles are on screen. Some games have this issue, others let everything render. If the game let everything render you would have people getting single digit FPS during Svara, Behemoth, and Odin ect and complaints would arise.

Hopefully their issue is fixable, im not sure if its something buried deep within the game engine, and I suspect it is.

Needless to say the issue is only an issue for certain mega-zerg fate and world bosses. I doubt they will add in world pvp as that would also be an issue for this problem.

Simple fix is to re-prioritize and allow people to turn off effects, though its only simple if the game engine allows it.

Isn't this option in the settings? Not at my ps3 to check, but that's one of the first things I did to help with FATE loading. Although, admittedly I haven't gone to any of the huge zergs for the big FATEs, but it was a noticeable problem initially when the zones were blitzed during EA & release week
